[VIC] DK2 Hitch Bike Rack $99.97 @ Costco, Epping (Membership Required)

320

Good quality bike rack, still shows full price online but I picked it up at this price at Costco Epping. They have quite a few in stock.
First post, hope it's decent :-)
Manual shows fold up for storage and fold down for hatch access.

Online listing still at original price.

  • Unable to upload image from store for some reason. -> fixed !

  • can this be mounted to a wall? or just car.

    • +1

      It could be, but there are other, better options for wall-mounting bikes.

    • +1

      Get a steady rack for mounting bikes to walls ;)

    • lol genuinely made me laugh. can definitely see somebody mounting a hitch to the wall to use this as both bike storage and in garage and bike rack for car. also solves problem of storing this separately in the garage.

      as others have mentioned, plenty of wayyyy cheaper off the shelf bike storage solutions around ($10 mount could do it) as well as plenty of creative solutions people have come up with.

    I bought this and returned it. It does not fit into some of the hitch used in Australian cars due to the edges of the 50x50 square.

    • If it helps people, seems to fit fine on my Ranger 2 inch receiver.

    • Do you have a 50x50mm hitch and this 2 inch does not fit? Such a bummer because mine is 50x50mm too

      Edit: just called costco canberra, they have it for sale for $300. Not sure if its the same model but the rep I talked to mentioned different stores can have different prices

    • Ok, just went to measure, Ranger has 52mm x 52mm receiver, I guess that's the 2" standard with tolerance.

      Makes sense it's too large for Australian 50mm x 50mm receivers.

      Hence the price drop (clearance).

      • It works on 1 friend's car, but doesn't work on my and another friend's car. So a bit hit and miss. Essentially, if your hitch has more of a sharp edged square then it may work. If it is even just a bit rounded, then the costco rack wouldn't slide in all the way.

        • Ah damnit it must be a Euro standard, they must've realised it wasn't fitting and had a lot of returns or issues with it hence the huge discount (it was $200-250 a few months ago).

          I couldn't figure out why it was cheap compared to the normal $400-800 for Yakima and other brands.

  • Anybody can comment if it's at docklands?

  • I was at Marsden Park this morning and they were $299.97

    • Was also $299.97 at Auburn when I saw it there last week

    • Bundamba Qld $299.97

  • If it's a pricing error (missed 2 in 299.97), suggest those who can, head to Costco Epping soon.
    Although the bar code registered the same price at the POS. Couldn't believe it myself.

  • Can you actually fit to MTBs on it?

    • Of course! 65kg capacity, up to 4.8" tyre width.

      • Is there enough space between the two so that handlebars, seats and pedals don't get in the way?

  • $299.97 @ Costco Lidcombe

    • It was $329.99 just before Christmas, so $299.97 is not a huge saving.

  • It's $99.97 at Ringwood VIC also. There was still plenty in stock at 1pm this afternoon.

    • where was it located? I went there in the afternoon yesterday and did not find it any where.

      • It was in the car section (cleaning, wipers etc) next aisle down from liquor. I’m heading back tomorrow so will check if there are any left.

        • I managed to find it yesterday. There were still around 5 left. Thanks.

  • Would it fit a mazda SUV?

    • +1

      Depends on if you have a 2" receiver. It's slightly larger than Australian standard 50mm.

      • Thanks. I haven’t installed any receiver. Can a compatible receiver be purchased in Australia?

        • You can't just buy the receiver, it's usually part of the tow bar.

          Some imported vehicles with tow bar already fitted have 2" receives, but since 50mm is the Australian standard, I really don't know if locally installed tow bar can be slightly larger than 50mm due to ADR regulations.

          I guess an installer can tell you, they would know.

            @browser: Thanks. Appreciate your response.

  • How does it compares to Thule

  • Still plenty available in Epping.

  • Moorabin i believe it s $99.97 too

    • +3

      They probably have lots of them in Victoria, whoever ordered this probably didn't know there's a difference in receiver size.

      TBH, I didn't know there's a difference, but now I know. :D

    • One left in Moorabbin last night. I picked up the second last one @ 7:40pm.
      Still haven't unpacked it to see if it fits my hitch.

      • Installed and very happy. It fits OEM receiver on Audi Q5 (MY22). It's a 2,000kg towbar kit with marking "Audi Q5 FY 2017 onwards". Based on this and other comments, I'd say this will probably fit most US/Euro made vehicles with OEM towbar.

        Very happy with the rack. Solid construction. Love how it folds out so you can open the boot and up to store away after unloading. The only issue I have now is where to store the 20kg monstrosity - I know, 1st world problems ;)
        Also, debating whether I should purchase another one just for the 3rd bike mount to add to this. It wouldn't be as designed, but there is space and my bikes are not too heavy - alu frames.

        Thanks OP - this was my best OzB purchase of the year so far :)

        • Happy folks got a good bargain. I have benefitted a lot from Ozb posts, finally got a chance to contribute.

  • grabbed one thanks.. Epping still has a few

  • Looking at the picture it might also be that in Victoria you need to not block the registration - you can purchase a bike rack number plate but not sure if it will attach to this bike rack? Does Costco still offer free returns on clearance items as keen to pick one up myself

  • It's got very decent Review - that's why I got it even though not sure (yet) if it fits.

    According to the reviewer, it is Thule T2 clone.
    I think it's the equivalent to one of these:
    * Thule T2 Pro X
    * Thule T2 Pro XT.
    * Thule T2 Pro XTB

    Regardless, it's a bargain if it fits your vehicle.

    Edit: It's Thule T2 Classic; Amazon.
