Have yo do a test before you go, a test when you arrive and stay for an overnight quarantine, then another test on day 5, if you test positive you need to go into quarantine at their hotel, pay upfront and argue with your insurer later. If you travel near someone in the plane who tests positive and you do not test positive, you have to go into quarantine and your insurance will NOT cover it… as you don't have covid. .

That show it was explained to me anyway but not sure of it all, so I gave up going :)

I went to Thailand in November and December, the test and go scheme was reasonable then and the risks could be mostly managed. There's no chance I'd recommend anyone goes there for a holiday now. The new Test and Go scheme is a joke and the odds of testing positive are higher now with how much Omicron is out there.

    • Let's not forget many are getting false positives on arrival and I believe it's hospital stay quarantine not hotel quarantine

The travel insurance is junk, only covers if you have a temp of 39c or difficulty breathing. Problem is you have to quarantine even if asymptomatic or a close contact. The insurance won't cover this see below,

keep wearing your mask while drive your own car or walk down a street with no one in sight…..

Good reminder. In Thailand, it is a law that everyone has to wear masks outdoors even on the beach.

First-time violators face a fine of up to 1,000 baht ($42) and the fines can go up to 20,000 baht ($853) for repeat offences.

Still waiting for a refund 2 years after flight cancellation with no signs when the refund will appear.

I know they went through bankrupcy and the last few years has been devastating for airlines but at least try to provide clarity to customer if and when the refund will be done. Respond to emails, phone calls etc.

I may travel again with Thai in the future but will be my last choice if I cant find any other flight.

The damage done by the recent events where thai wern't responding to thousands of customers mean it will take few years before people forget it and travel again with the airlines.

They STILL owe me $5500 for cancelled flight.

      • Me too! I paid in September 2019 :-(

        • Same 2 years pending, they cancelled my flight and declared bankruptcy, so still waiting for my refund. Will never fly with them again.

Thai airways sucks for cancellation and refunds / credits, if you have to go much cheaper deals available with Jetstar

  • So, what's everyone going to Thailand for?

I had Thai Airways cancel my flights. Still waiting for refund and being shuttled between Gotogate (the travel agent) and the airlines. Avoid both of them!

Just got back from a 5 week trip in Thailand. Entered via Phuket on the Test-and-Go program just before it was paused temporarily. The entry process when we landed was surprisingly smooth considering the logistics. We were through customs and in our transport to our first resort in 45 minutes.

Mostly avoided busy locations asides from a few nights in Patong (totally unnecessary). Quickly made out way out to smaller islands where there's less people and less COVID eg. Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi We enjoyed 5 star accommodations at 3 star prices.

If you like quiet airports, clean secluded beaches in epic locations, and delicious Thai food, now is the time to go! You'll never experienced Thailand like this again… I hope. The locals are so friendly and hospitable. They've been through hell and still manage a smile.

Flew with Thai using credits from cancelled flights back in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Customer service was great from their Sydney call centre .

Sorry to hear about others bad experiences, but mine was amazing.

    • The locals are so friendly and hospitable

      Soi6Daddy…

  • Just got back from a 5 week trip in Thailand.

Sounds amazing. I'm planning my next trip now, but was thinking that Monsoon season is just around the corner so might push it back til the dry season.

Quick question, once you're in and past day 1 with a neg test, you are free tor travel anywhere in Thailand? Isn't there also a Day 5 test you have to have booked so you're locked into Phuket for 5 days?

    • The test and go program changes all the time, so take this with a grain of salt. When we entered on test and go on 31/12 we could travel anywhere in Thailand after receiving the negative result of the day 1 test. We did have to do a day 5 test and submit the result via a Google form … It felt rather hacked together. I know friends didn't submit the day 5 result and heard nothing more about it.

      • I know friends didn't submit the day 5 result and heard nothing more about it.

Sounds like South Australia. We went over Christmas and they said we had to test, fill in forms, check in, submit a daily questionnaire on the app etc. We did none of it and no-one said anything. Flew there, stayed for a week and flew back with no test, no check-in, no app, nothing and no-one said a word 😁

    • The day 5 test/hotel you can do that anywhere as long as there's support for it. A lot of remote places don't do it and in some areas, prices are like double what it is in Bangkok.

      You can use https://web.thailandsha.com/shaextraplus?keyword=&province=

to search but will need to contact the hotel directly for day 5 test/go packages.

For example in Udon Thani, one place was almost 10k baht just for one night.

      https://www.vela360hotels.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/VDU…

      Expensive!

That's like equiv to staying in Bangkok for 5 days including day 1 test/day 5 test.

Not really worth it unless you really want to get out of Phuket or Bangkok after day 1 test/hotel.

yeah sure lets got and get a new covid varient overseas and bring it back here……. great…. I will never travel again till the pandemic is over. if people are stupid enough to go now because of cheap prices…. then I have lost faith in people completely.

    • I will never travel again till the pandemic is over

How will you know that it's truly over? When the man on the TV tells you it's safe to come out of your house again? 🤣

      • when its managable and under control like the flu at the moment its not managable and its out of control. the Media is a load of BS if you believe that then you have no hope.

        • at the moment its not managable.

Seems fine from here. Did the man on the TV tell you be afraid? Maybe do less of that…

          • @1st-Amendment: info-tainment is not real news and its been highlighted many times. Actual Facts is what you go by which is not delievered by the news programs.

  • Actual Facts is what you go by which is not delievered by the news programs.

Oh actual facts. Are they different from regular facts? How do you tell the difference?

    • look up your local govenment websites dont' look up news sites and they will actually tell you correct facts.

  • the amount of people sick at work is massive, this is why we are having shortages and delays and people are dying in hospitals and age care. lack of resourses due to people either getting sick or just dont' have enought staff. its not being managed well at all, its out of control. The mere incompentence of the NSW govenment is even worse. Never highlighed on the news ofcourse.

the amount of people sick at work is massive

Is 'massive' an actual fact? How many do you need for something to qualify as 'massive'?

this is why we are having shortages and delays

That is more to do with the arbitrary restrictions than the virus. I know plenty of people who were asymptomatic and could've kept working but weren't allowed to.

people are dying in hospitals and age care

People have always died. The average is about 400/day in Australia. If you are waiting for that to stop you're in for a long wait

its not being managed well at all, its out of control.

And what metric do you use for 'managed well'?

It sounds like you better get used to your bedroom because real life might be too scary for you deal with.
