why do people need to dry a heat pump.
I thought it would just dry it self

    • +22

You forgot to bold some words. Make sure you bold something that makes no sense to emphasise

      • +15

        Did someone call my name?

        • +5

No it was your brother, no sense.

      • +2

        I'm learning.
I did get the grey font color right.

    • +1

Well it is cheaper to wear wet clothes

  • +13

It's weird that this thing is so much cheaper than any other brand. Had one for 18 months now and never missed a beat, probably paid for itself with the lower power bill.

    • +2

I can second that, good build quality and material used, we use it everyday for baby wears with no significant increase on power bills.

    • Do you get lint going past both filters?

      • +1

        Yes

        • How do you know it has gone past both filters?

          • @spaceflight: There’s two layers of filters and I have to clean out lint in those filters

          • @spaceflight: Because there is lint in both?

            • @Franc-T: That means both filters are catching the lint.

How do you know that the lint is making it past the second filter?

              • @spaceflight: I haven't had any spillovers when taking out the second filter. Wondering what's the concern here?

          • @spaceflight: You'll see the chocolate smears

  • Can this be wall mounted easily?

    • +3

no, it is very heavy 57kg

      • +3

But you may be able to stack it on top of the washing machine. That is how I have it set up, with $30 anti vibration pad.

        • But, my washing machine vibrates a lot. Sometimes it even slightly moves

          • +39

@An0nymous: You should try putting a 57 kg weight on it to keep it stationary

            • +1

@oznik: 57kg machine + the wet clothes weight

          • +1

@An0nymous: i'm in the same boat. can't figure out if it's a leg levelling issue or something else.

            • +1

@andresampras: maybe put a mat under the washing machine

            • +1

@andresampras: Make sure to put one on each side of your boat to avoid capsizing

            • @andresampras: I had the same issue with my previous washing machine in the end I bought these little circle pads from Clark Rubber, I raised the legs as far as they would go then readjusted them as close to perfectly level as possible before putting the rubber bits under the legs and then when it was in full spin cycle made tiny adjustments and problem was fixed. I don't have the same issue with the new machine.
I'm not sure if they were specific for washing machines though, I think I just asked in store and they presented them as an option its possible they were for furniture but they are very similar to poron shoe insole material only about 5mm thick but it was more than enough to stop the machine moving around and making noise.

            • @andresampras: Is it a front loader? Mine is, and it has baby versions of a car shock absorber in there. Maybe one of yours has gone bad.

            • @andresampras: drum suspension could be shagged causing uneven drum rotation and severe vibration. very common problem especially if you overload often, very easy and cheap to change

              • @dsp26: cheers for that. Is that something I can do myself, or need to get someone in?

            • @andresampras: Your machine secretly wants to disco.

          • +1

@An0nymous: Long shot but when you got your machine, did you make sure you removed all the drum bolts from the back (meant to hold the drum in place for transportation purposes only)? Not removing those can make the washing machine have a mind of it's own and go walkabout (in addition to damaging the drum)

            • +1

@JamesRodriguez87: Do they actually run with those bolts still attached? I always assumed they locked the drum in place not just balancing stuff.
You'd be kicking yourself if you find out that was the issue years later lol

              • -1

@Clarky77: It'll still go through the process so it technically still "runs" but not really wash properly because the drum wouldn't be moving. Can do damage too

            • @JamesRodriguez87: Yeah thats a biggie, but afaik it makes a racket if you try

        • Is it pretty secure with only the pad? I know they sell brackets/mounting plates for double stacking but usually for same brands. I've got a 7.5kg Samsung that's fairly new I'm wondering if this could be mounted on top without issue (no space to put one side by side unfortunately) also where did you buy the anti vibration pad or are they pretty common?
          Thanks

          • +1

@Clarky77: The anti-vibration stuff is pretty common, TGG have one, and there are the usual cheapies on eBay, personally I purchased a few of these cheapies and used 2 for each corner, never had a problem with vibration.

    • +1

You generally dont mount heat punp dryers

      • Good to know, thank you.

      • +1

Or any sort of machinery, really.

        Almost.

        • +3

You can mount vented dryers as they are the lightest.

          • +1

@Ryanek: Sorry, it was a play on the word 'mount'. I'll get my hat on the way out!

            • @eug: Or maybe they were suggesting theirs is flat and suitable for a vent?

        • +1

          Speak for yourself ;)

  • +2

Ironically having solar makes the payback period on buying this a bit longer, given the average c/kWh is lower.

If I was buying as a first time dryer purchase, or to replace one that had carked it, I'd buy this in a heartbeat though.

    • +1

      Ironically having solar

Would you usually do have much/any sun when using this? Mine gets used at night or on wet days

      • Fair point - but sometimes even on sunny days you don't have the time/flat out don't want to hang stuff on the clothesline.

  • +2

Was <$499 last year, should I wait?

    • +5

Dunno… With chip shortages, shipping costs through the roof, AUD sinking and generally high inflation… I wouldn't count on it being $499 again soon.

    • +1

IMO everything has gotten more expensive since last year.

If you need a dryer I would it would just get it.

    • +1

have a look around for cosmetically damaged ones if it's an option to you - bought mine last year for $470, just has a minor crack on the plastic on the back, can't see it nor does it affect anything, works great

example: $524 - SA Only and $551 - SA Only

they've been cheaper before and they do deliver to non-SA areas, just depends on stock at the time

    • That was Afterpay subsidy though, probably not going to happen anytime soon again

      • Now that Square has purchased Afterpay I imagine they'll want it to actually make some money, not just go through endless customer growth without any profitability.

    • For Commbank Debit card holders, I think there is an offer of spending $300 or more & saving $30 on Appliance Online. Not sure if that is valid on ebay Appliance online.

  • Anyone know the standard warranty for this?

    • From memory when we bought, the standard is 12 months. But, if you register online, they extend it to 18 or 24 months. However, I couldn't register because you need the serial number, which is at the back of the machine. Once installed, it is very difficult for one person to get the serial number.

    • Had this one since April 2020, it's perfect when it works but the damn thing broke since Nov 2021 and after a lot of calling back and forth they still haven't managed to get the repair parts for 2 god damn months lol. God, two months without dryer sucks.

In the end I gave up and asks them to just take the dryer back for refund this Feb.

So yeah, it works perfect as long as you don't have to deal with their warranty team…

I hope someone will be courteous enough to explain the negative vote. Some asked as question, which I answered. I get a negative vote.

        • +1

That's just typical internet forum lol. Wasn't me btw, upvoted your comment as proof.

    Cash back on dryers

  • +1

Had cheap dryer in my old house, sun/wind dry for around 6 months after moved to new house then bought a Beko heat pumps dryer.
Sun/wind dry- no running cost, but take around 30 minutes to take the clothes out and in.
Cheap dryer - cheap to buy, fast to dry, but cost around 6-7kw per circle, humid and need to vacuum the lint in laundry. 5-15 minutes to move the clothes in and out and vacuum.
Heat pump dryer - more expensive to buy, take around 30 minutes more time to dry, only 30%-50% energy compared to cheap dryer, more gentle/soft/fluffy to clothes.

  • Doesn't ship to NSW 😥

  • Keep both filters clean and this pump dryer is as good as any, even those double the price.
    Economical and works extremely well.

  • The best thing about this dryer, that I've found over the last 3 years, is the house is less dusty. Definitely saves you in other departments, compared with sun/wind drying.

    • Yeah this was an unexpected benefit of mine.

  • about 1yr - 15 loads at least a week which means 780+ so far - working perfectly - two more years to go on warranty - 25c a load over 3 years. Should last maybe 7-10yrs i guess.. which means it might get to 7.5c a load

    • How long does one of those loads typically take? A load of underwear and socks, or a sheet and some pillow cases?

    • +2

15 loads at least a week

      That’s a lot of loads.

      • 3 young very active kids!

      • I do more than that, its what you get when you never hang washing outside!

  • Just when I'd convinced myself to buy the Beko BDP710W over this Esatto….

Anyone know any major differences between the two, apart from digital display on the Beko?

We'd mainly be using the dryer for sheets, quilts etc…are these both decent for this purpose?

    Never had a dryer before.

    • +1

      RIP

    • +1

The Beko looks pretty good with the longer warranty, quieter (65dba vs 69dba, decibels are logarithmic so that's more than it seems), lighter and higher star rating.

That said, for me personally I still probably would have gone the Esatto. It would take a very long time to make back the price difference in electricity savings (6 stars isn't much less than 7), the noise doesn't bother me nor the weight and since most of the time I chuck in the laundry and hit go I don't need a digital display.

With the Esatta the only issue I have with sheets sometimes is they get tangled into a clump and the centre doesn't dry but that's probably true of every dryer. I just untangle them and throw it back in. Usually I can tell something has gone wrong because it finishes too quickly.

      • Not true for dryers with reverse tumble

        • But the Esatto spec (appliancesonline listing) says reverse tumble?

      • 65dba vs 69dba, decibels are logarithmic so that's more than it seems

Every 3db is 50% so the Beko is more than 50% quieter

        • Every 3db is 50% so the Beko is more than 50% quieter

It's a bit complex (also depends on frequencies) but while 3dB is a doubling (or halving) of intensity, it takes about 10dB to double the perceived loudness.

    • I bought the Beko, since I wanted a digital display to see how much time was left. There's really no point since the time left seems to be just a rough estimate.

I just turn it on and walk away, and when it's done it's done.

Save your money and go the Esatto

  • Great dryer. Dry your towels in this to keep them fluffy

    • +1

I never put towels in mine, the lint is just too much. And even though I clean both filters halfway through the cycle I still see a LOT of lint making its way to the heating fins below.
I would need a service to clean them or at the very least they’d reduce the efficiency of the dryer.

  • I have a 5.5kg front load washer where its official measurements are:
    Width 60cm
    Depth 63cm

However the top of the washer is slightly smaller than its base, so I’m a bit worried that the top of the washer where I intend to stack the dryer might be a few cm too short. Would this be a problem?

Depth is more like 56cm per my measurement on the top of the washer as the top is not the bulgiest or fattest part of the machine.

    • prob best asking appliancesonline directly

      • Yep did that at the same time as asking here - just got the reply - initially said should be fine, when I explained further my concern they said that it won’t fit. I’ll look for a smaller dryer or maybe it’s time to get a larger and newer washer (mine is about 13 years old). In any event looks like it’s now sold out

      • That looks like a great solution, thanks for sharing

I think the depth might still be too short though - 60cm compared to depth of dryer of 62.2cm. Maybe in practice it doesn’t really matter but I’d rather be 100% sure.

  • Hmm. This dryer has great reviews but the energy star rating is not that high. Has anyone done some actual measurements on how much power this uses to do a 7kg load?

Also, is it big enough to dry a super king sheets or duvet cover?

    • +2

Around 1.5KW per load according to my plug-in power meter.
Plenty big enough for a quilt cover, but sometimes sheets get rolled up into a ball inside the machine. I think this is because it only rotates in one direction.
