Free: Weet-Bix Active Bands Wristband for Kids @ Weet-Bix

2670

Weet-Bix are giving away free Active Bands wristbands intended for kids. There's an Android/iOS app for recording progress, setting and completing challenges etc. More information here.

Simply fill out the form in the link. Obviously don't order more than you need as I doubt you'll get anything if you order too many.

Weet-Bix Active Bands come in two sizes. Measure all the way around your child’s wrist to identify best size to order. Small bands are 145mm and Medium bands are 160mm in circumference. The bands are elastic and have some stretch.

Power User Note: These are not activity/fitness trackers. They just contain an NFC chip to identify a child in the app.

Nice try CIA, you won't get me this time

    • +8

Yeah I got some of these a few years ago, the amount of personal info they wanted to not only setup, but when you wanted to update, change settings, etc.

      • +1

no one's forcing you to put your actual info, if you're using it as a fitness tracker then you can just put anything in right?

        • +2

Well you did need to verify your email & possibly a phone#, then it asked dor parents info, kids info (including DOB, weigjt, height, etc)… Which you can fake.
Them say for time changes (DLS or jist fix it up), it needed to connect to the app, which had to be internet connected, change your password every few months (with email verification), it sync'd all your data to their cloud before you could make any changes.

So yep, you could enter some fake info, but the amount.of data they wanted was seriously OTT and makes my concerned why they required all that info and what they were doing with it.

a kids fitness track shouldn't be tracking all this info.

LoL got 5 for neices and nephews, recently got a Fitbit and I have a nice with fatty liver so thanks op.

    • +1

      A nice fatty liver?

Not too nice for your niece. 😉

  • Thanks… Nephews are going to be blinged out

  • +7

Thank you seventh day Adventists, very nice.

    • +8

      Federal funded grant :)

Better idea: don't feed your kids unhealthy processed crap to set them up for a day of over eating.

The notion that you can "exercise it away" - so it's actually your fault rather than the pretend health food - was invented by the food processing sector.

    • +9

Even better idea. Feed your kids healthy food and promote an active life style.

      • Bad idea. Then how are poor capitalists going to afford a private jet? No doubt our supreme leader has given them tax breaks and job-keeper funds from our not-so-hard-earn tax dollars because some Aussies think about living a healthy lifestyle. How Un-Australian.
Eat unhealthy, they won't need you alive after 65 anyway.

        • +1

The street van selling fast food won't have a private jet. What about them?

          • -1

@Clear: They are just middle men. Supplying us slow poison made in large factories own by our beloved capitalist.

      • +2

Even better better idea. If you don't have any kids you will have more money to spend on deals on OzBargain.

        • +2

Yeah but you miss out on all the nappy deals

    • Yeah i agree it's your own fault

    • +7

To be honest if your kids eat weetbix there're higher chance that they have better diet than many, unless they get trained eating it with extra sugar.

    • +8

Curious. What's actually wrong with Weetbix? Thought it'd be healthier than 99% of cereals?

      • +1

Vita Brits has far less sugar

    • +1

Last time I checked weetbix had 5 stars

      • ..and 4 stars for Zooper dooper bubblegum milk

        • 8.3g of sugar and 2.5g of fat per 100mL, apart from that I don't see what's wrong with it. Maybe some flavouring that isn't natural?

  • +1

Ordered one for my Mum (she has tiny wrists) - for when we walk together! Thanks OP 😊

  • +12

It doesn’t actually do anything. It’s a NFC chip for their app per child.

    • +1

Yep. Thanks for pointing this out.
The novelty will last 2 days at best.

    • +2

How does it track your kids activity if it's just an nfc chip?

      • it doesn't

        • +1

Wtf is this then? Just a login for your kid? They could just log in a f the band

    • +5

Yeah, this should be highlighted in the post description. It's very much just a gimmick (and branding/marketing exercise) and is not a true activity tracker at all. The band does not have the ability to track activity. This promotion gamifies exercise (which is fine), but it does mean you need the app to actually log each time you've done exercise to get points to get badges on their profile. There are no "real" prizes. It also ends up encouraging screen time, which is not something that's really needed these days.

I feel like Weet-Bix must have a lot of marketing money as they seem to have giveaways and promotions very frequently. If you follow their social media, it's like every month or so, there's some new competition. Not having to pay tax helps!

  • "1 in 5 kids get 60 mins of moderate to vigorous exercise per day" - think this applies to adults as well.

    • +1

Actually 45% of adults meet the government guidelines. For teenagers only 2% meet the gov guidelines (1 in 50!)
      https://www.health.gov.au/health-topics/physical-activity-an…

      • They are demanding expectations. I don't think I know anybody in the 45%.
I reckon we're doomed, I can't see us ever getting that level of activity to be the norm.

        • +1

You can meet them by jogging for 11 minutes a day (or 20 minutes of walking) and perhaps push ups on 2 days per week. If anything I'd argue they're too low.
While of course weight matters for health, I'd say the guidelines should encourage more high intensity activity to keep cardiovascular health up.

  • Land fill…

    • -1

The ingredients to make this came from the land so having this is the opposite of land fill.

  • Thanks Op. Got some for the kids!

  • Can't see the photo of it clearly. Does it have a screen for kids wear it like normal watch?

  • +2

seems like its just free bands only…not a fitness tracker

    • On the confirmation page, it says:

our Weet-Bix Active Band order has been submitted and a summary of your order details will be emailed to you.

We will now send your Active Bands order to you. Please allow standard 7 to 14 days for postage and shipping.

      Next Steps

When your Weet-Bix Active Band wristband arrives, scan the QR code on the backing card to connect your wristband with the app.

You can download the Weet-Bix Active Band App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by clicking on the links below.

Sounds like it is more than an elastic band

    • Well the product is fully washable because it does not use any battery.

      • +1

By that logic, the paperback of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone is fully washable, as that also does not use any battery.

    • It isn't a fitness tracker. It's an NFC chip.

  • +1

    What does it do exactly?

    • Nothing. Don't bother. It's is just a chip that allows the app to ID your child.

      • On the intro video, I saw the app shows kJ burnt for each activity for a given child. How is this being calculated without a proper activity tracking module?

This feels like a gimmick to collect a whole bunch of personal data.

        • How is this being calculated without a proper activity tracking module?

Averages from age, height and the activity

        • You select the activity and the duration from swiping the NFC and it guesstimates KJ burned.

  • Reminded me of the milo band https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/628778 app didnt work back then, the app has been updated, but still stuck on the last step at sign up (where it asks for the PIN, it keeps saying theres an error)

    • POS! Got it to work when bought ($5 including tin of Milo), but now won't connect to app.

  • +2

Still not as good as a star wars spoon or age of empires CD.

    • I don't think you'll ever top the age of empires cd in Nutri Grain.

      • How long ago was that?

        • +1

          2002 I think.

          • +1

@Clear: Dude! That avatar is so confusing.
I kept wondering why JV would offer any helpful answers until I double checked the username. ;-)

      • was the best ever freebie in a cereal box, hence why I mentioned it.

I still rate the star wars saber spoon highly too.

      • The PC video games CDs in the cereal boxes were the best. There was also the free PC games that came with the pizza deals (around 2004)

        • -1

I think even Maccas did it at some point. I had a few of their discs.

  • What a waste of resources.

    • Knowing now it's not a fitness band. 100%.

  • +1

Could still be useful if the nfc chip can be reprogrammed for use in other apps

  • +1

    Cheers!
Fingers crossed you can reprogram the NFC chip

    • I doubt they'd shell out more $ for rewritable NFC chips.

  • Not free in the sense that postage and handling costs $3.95

    • There was no cost for me. Did you get an email saying this?

    • For me it just says "Your Weet-Bix Active Bands wristband order has been submitted and a summary of your order details can be found below. Please allow standard 7 to 14 days for postage and handling." That's a bit strange

  • +4

Unfortunate, seems like Weet-Bix decided to charge postage or handling.

Delayed Delivery Notice - Please note due to unprecedented demand for Weet-Bix Active Bands, delivery for wristband orders may take up to 90 days. Postage and handling is $3.95 per order. Weet-Bix Active Bands is for children aged 5 to 12 years.

    • +1

Reported - Deal marked as EXPIRED.

  • +1

I am not knocking Weet-Bix, but for those who are interested in healthy breakfast cereal variety, try puffed cereal. eg Amaranth, Millet, Spelt, Brown Rice, Quinoa.
Some are easier to find than others. Check the health food section of Coles & Woolies. Most of the puffed cereal have nothing extra added.

  • Still waiting for these active bands. I don't think they will ever post though.

  • No sign of them. I doubt they will ever deliver. Too many requests I think.

  • They are now asking you to cover their shipping cost.

  • Thank you for your recent Weet-Bix™ Active Bands® web-order!

We have had an incredible response to our launch from you and tens of thousands of parents around Australia.

Delivery to your address is estimated to be within 6 to 8 weeks because we are now waiting on additional supplies of wristbands to arrive before we can fulfil your order. We apologise for the delay and if we can possibly deliver sooner, we will.

Thank you again for joining the Weet-Bix Active Bands movement. We are so excited to help motivate our Aussie kids to move more, and more often!

  • I wonder if it's possible to cancel my order. I submitted before actually reading what the FAQs about what this really was. This will be wasted on me.

  • When I ordered, I thought it would at least track how many steps the kids did but doesn't seem like it does this
I just received the 3 I ordered (didn't pay any postage)

If anyone wants them, DM me to pickup
    I'm in Doncaster VIC

  • +1

It seems like this is just an nfc chip in the wristband and not a pedometer. The same nfc that you see used on a credit card. Nothing fancy and not what I expected.

  • I ordered these too quick before the comments that they are basically useless.

I've hacked them open and retrieved the chip discs. Trying to think of some use for them. What a waste weetbix.
