How am I meant to say no to this deal? <$13 for a backpack delivered? How bad could it be.

    • +4

Exactly my thoughts. Just ordered one!

      • Ditto!

    • +2

Not bad. Made an overseas trip with it having my laptop inside, it survived pretty well.

    • ordered 1 too

    • I need a carry bag for my old 15" Lenovo, great.

    • +9

Well it says it's Essential so that means you have to have it I guess….

    • It's a great bag for $13. I've had mine since last December and it's still in great shape.

  • +6

I can never understand why Dell insists on their logo on the backpacks. I do not want to announce to the world I have an expensive laptop in my bag.

    • +44

Same, I hate it when people think I have liquid mercury inside my Quicksilver backpack.

      • +37

It's irritating when people think I have the number 5 in my Mambo backpack

    • Dell = Expensive?

      • +7

Dell make a large scope of laptops, some cheap, some quite expensive.

      • +3

Well I wouldn't exaxtly call their G series and XPS models cheap

      • +1

I think @bwendan meant that "laptop = expensive".. and would prefer potential thieves to think that their backpack was a vessel for smelly clothes and a half-eaten sandwich

    • +4

I can never understand why would anyone puts logo on their products, ever.

      • +4

You must be a UNIQLO, MUJI and XIAOMI lover then!

      • +4

It's free advertising. Actually, it's better than that, people are paying to be walking billboards for you.

      • Free marketing.

        Just being sarcastic guys πŸ˜‚

    • Same reason I hate having the apple logo on my iPhone.

      • +6

I can scratch it off for ya free of charge.

      • Cover it with a case.

    • +1

I have an expensive laptop in my bag

OzB should create a tag that sticks over no. Tells people not to steal your cheap stuff inside.

      • +3

Ozb should sell stickers, slap a ozb sticker on your backpack and let the world know you're a cheapskate

        • +2

          Cheap and proud

    • typed on iphone

  • Looks Good Deal.

  • Thanks for the tip.

  • Which bag can fit a pair of shoes?

    • Which one?

      • +1

Mine was a question, but maybe the 17" bags.

        • +1

Lol. I was thinking it as a dad joke.

  • +6

Dell Gaming Backpack 17 also on sale $33

    • Thanks, bought one of these. Cancelling the 15" one.

    • +1

By far the better bag, been carting mine around for the last two years with no problems yet. I have the essentials one too but I tend to use this one more.

      • I saw a comment on another thread sometime ago that the 15 can't fit a lunch box and water bottle cause it can't stretch. Can the 17 stretch to include those 2 items plus some notebooks and charger?

        • So long as it's not your traditional school lunch box it will fit one but only with a single laptop in there, if you want to squeeze two in there you'll be looking for a different way to pack it. It has more room than the essential but probably only an extra 50mm or so.

      • just bought this, how is the padding in cases of drops?

        • +1

I have been using it for about a year. It's pretty well padded so I won't worry too much about drops.

    • thanks, was ready to spend on expensive bag that can fit 17 but cant say no to this one at $33 - 7% education discount so $30 together.

  • Please don't buy this one, really poor built quality.

    • Says it has 3 years warranty?

      • Does not mean anything. Dell said "Please note since this is an out of returns policy we will not be able to proceed further." to a claim I made for warranty without even asking me what the issue was.

  • +1

How big is this outside the laptop space? Could you car a couple of binders also with some extra room for smaller things?

    • +3

Yes, a few thin binders. The challenge is the way it opens. The shoulder straps get in the way. Although a good price - I would suggest there are better options for more dollars. Avoid

  • Cheap for a backpack but I'm not sure I trust my really expensive laptop in this thing. I feel like there isn't enough padding

  • +2

Can anyone tell me why the zipper is inside the shoulder belt..I am using it, it's just a nightmare to put something in or out… the only reason I can think of is, no one can steal your stuff while you are wearing it.. thanks

    • -2

Agreed stupid design. Just makes it difficult

    • +2

I bought one a while ago. Found the zipper closure frustrating. I guess it's anti-theft whilst worn.

    • +2

I think it's more for quick access, to get the laptop without opening the main compartment where other things may fall out.

It's actually not that uncommon, a few other backpacks have similar design, especially camera backpacks. You just need to flip the shoulder straps to the front and out of the way.

An alternative design is to have the zipper on the side, rather than top, then it is every easily accessible. Crumpler Mantra is like that.

The Dell Essential backpack, as the name suggests, is a basic backpack so as long as the workmanship is good enough, you can't expect all the bells and whistles.

      • +1

Yeah I have had this design in my last 3 backpaks and never found it annoying at all. It's not like yoi have to do it every 5 minutes.

  • +1

Not sure why i bought another backpack

    • +1

      OMG, ANOTHER ONE!

I mean, another random bag collector.. πŸ˜…

I think I've racked up almost 10 bags in the last 2 years now, mostly unthanks to OzB! πŸ˜‚

  • +4

This laptop bag is not good at any price - straps stop you from putting laptop in freely and anything else of decent size. Not fit for purpose and $12.88 wasted if you ask me. And I wasted $20

    • +13

      On a mission ay?

    • +1

Nice try with all the comments ;)

  • Better to have some support / protection than nothing. $13 doesnt buy you much these days esp when you need them and none in stock +1 from me

  • Any computers or screens at 72% off?

    Grabbed one thanks

  • I have 2 freebies from Dell and they're awesome. Better than my Crumpler and other $100+ bags I've had over my life. I feel like buying this for the sake of buying it

  • Bought one for my ms surface laptop 3 15” nice. Thanks OP

  • Would any of you know if Is there a Backpack that can carry 2 Laptops for Traveling ? 1 for work and 1 for Play

  • +1

    Bagged one

  • It’s a good bag for the price, but I agree with the other poster, the zipper makes it one of the worst designs decisions on a product I’ve ever seen.

  • +1

can the Acer nitro 5 15.6” fit in this backpack?

    • -3

Have you heard of Google? It literally says "Max laptop dimension: 380mm x 260mm x 25mm" and the Acer Nitro 5 is 363 x 255 x 23.9 so yes, it will fit.

  • almost bought one until I read about the zipper, that would annoy me too much.

  • +12

I've had this exact backpack for a couple of years, I would use it at least twice a week, bike riding, going to work, groceries etc. I just gave it a good look over now and there's no signs of wear and tear. I like the 2X deep water bottle pockets, they never fall out, even when leaning forward bike riding. It has 3 zipped sections, the main section has a pocket to stick a 15" laptop, it fits snugly with a very thick laptop case. The main section can hold 4x 2 litre milk bottles! There are another 2 zips at the front, one zip opens a section that's just large enough to stick an A4 writing pad, and has little pouches to put glasses, phone etc. The final section at the front is a vertical zip, that allows an ALDI/Kmart catalogue to fit in just perfectly, it also has a cool waterproof looking zip. The back of the bag has a thin sheet of padding that prevents pointy items jabbing into your back. The shoulder straps also have that same padding in them adding to the comfort. When I first got this backpack I thought the shoulder straps felt a bit cheap and not robust. But time and a lot of use has proven me wrong. The backpack is appropriately simple, not over complex with too many or compartments. There's a nice hand grab loop at the top also. I highly recommend this laptop, I paid about $25 and thought it was a good deal. These would make great Kris Kringle presents, or for when you forget to buy your friend a birthday present.

    • Oh man I thought you were talking about the 15 one totally sold it for me. It arrived and the bottle areas on the side could barely fit a 330ml bottle of beer. Might pass it off to someone else who may need it. Lesson learned!

The gaming backup is also heavily reduced to $33.30
Dell Gaming Backpack 17– GM1720PM – Fits most laptops up to 17"

    • That's the one I got last year and it's a great bag. Although I use it to carry my 13.3" laptop, lol.

      • I got a different one again last year which was waiting for my return to the office but has since been stolen for a school bag by one of the kids so I should order a new one :D

      • Would it work for high school students (laptop exercise books and lunchbox)?

        • Should be no problems with a standard size lunchbox and a couple of thin exercise books.

        • The one I have works fine for my girl in year 8 until she gets something she likes better (although inertia being what it is for teenagers I suspect she'll keep using the Dell for a while :P)

In the interim I have ordered one of these for me :)

    • Would this fit a 16” MBP, surface pro 8 and iPad pro?

      • Yes, and with space to spare.

  • +5

Bought it, thanks. Stop the complaining for $12 ffs

  • Good pick up OP. I bought one too and I will keep the receipt for tax time. Hehehe.

  • Thanks OP! Picked up a couple

  • Thanks OP

  • Also up to 12% Shopback

    • Is this under assessories? 0% for assessories.

  • I had one of these… gave it away, the zipper placement is terrible. I got another Dell backpack that's been much better.

  • Is this the same as this from the good guys?
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/dell-15-inches-essentials-not…

    • +1

      Yep that's the same one

      • Even normal price 49 at tgg is more expensive than the Dell normal price of 43 delivered, interesting not many ttg has stock.

  • Thank you OP, too good to pass up :)

  • Thanks OP, ordered two :)
