    Offftt!

These Bad Boys bring all the Grandmas to the yard.

    • +1

Cancer Council cater to every taste.

  • +2

these are damn good sunnies i have to say - i find myself reaching for these more than I do with the ray bans

    • +1

Me too! My ray bans are non polarised though but I expect that even if they were I’d still prefer the CCs - lighter and cheaper (no guilt if I break them) and look just as good

  • Sad that Bondi is excluded. Also, is there a way to get free shipping that doesn't involve buying 3 pairs?

    • +1

I’m not aware of one, sorry. I usually click and collect.

    • I have/had 6 pairs of bondis. I always lose my sunnies so they are a reasonable price for my forgetfulness.

Good quality but don't like being left in the car - I've had two pairs with the lens peel away.

  • +2

If you are with AHM anything you buy from CC is free up to $40 per item.

    • Direct or via a third party?

    • How do you claim it

    • I can't find anything on their website to support this. Can you please provide more info?

      • +2

I found this on their website:

        Cancer Council UV products

If you have black 70, black 70 boost, classic, lifestyle, family or super extras cover, or boost package basic plus or boost flexi basic plus, you can claim on approved Cancer Council UV sun protection products from the sunscreen, swimwear, hats and sunglasses range. Your receipt just needs to identify the product as Cancer Council approved.

    • +5

Yep , sunnies, sunscreen, hats , up to $250 pp or $500 per family . Under health improvements in extras

      • does this include medibank since they own AHM?

    • +1

Can confirm, we make an annual ritual of waiting for the David Jones cancer council sales and then claim back through AHM Health insurance. It's easy.

      • Mind blown!

I have been with AHM for YEARS and never knew this. Thanks!

  • Are any of these non polarised?

    • +2

I don’t think so, I’ve not come across a non-polarised Cancer Council pair of sunnies before.

      • Damn. Thanks for the quick reply!

    • +7

Why would you want non polarised? I was about to ask, are these all polarised? Haha

      • +15

Sorry to be that guy, but because I'm a pilot. Polarising sunnies can make it hard to read the screens (some planes have your speed/altitude etc on an LCD screen) in the cockpit. Don't want to be tilting your head all over the place while you're trying to land a plane!

        • +3

All good! Genuinely curious what use case would be for non polarised preference! They should make bifocal style bi-polarised sunglasses for pilots!

        • +6

          But, but…my Aviators are polarised!

        • +2

          I get your frustration.

Rotating my phone makes the display invisible and then I need to rewind the content!

        • +1

I am not a pilot but have the same preference for the same reason.

      • +1

Yeah, I was hoping for non polarised too :( Not a pilot though, I drive Light Rail and our control panels are all screens too. It's been surprisingly difficult to find non-polarised sunnies.

    • You mean prescription lenses?

    • +9

So the best way to get Power to these, strap two Ryobi 18V ONE+ 9.0Ah Lithium Batteries and it should cancel the sun for a good 8 hours.

      • I would have thought solar power would be the way to go for sunnies

    • +2

I think you will have a hard time with Specsavers as they are locked in by Big-Glasses and what lenses they supply for what.

OzB correct me but I recall this was a really affordable way to get prescription sunglasses:
      https://www.zennioptical.com

Unfortunately I got lasik before I got to try that site.

    • Sorry I don’t know. I wear contact lenses so haven’t had to worry about prescription glasses for a while.

  • Shame there are no fitovers available.

I don't like having to have 2 pairs of prescription glasses, one plain and one tinted. Fitovers are a good option, but most of the fitovers available are huge and ugly. The CC have some nice ones.

  • +1

I can highly, highly recommend. I can't see much reason to pay more for sunglasses unless you need a prescription.

  • +1

+1 for cancer council sunglasses, using northam black from last few months and absolutely loving it. Fits well, looks good and cheaper. Not sure anymore if it's worth paying more than double for rayban and other such brands

  • +2

I love cancer council sunnies but unfortunately this is a pretty ordinary sale, limited styles for 50% off and most of them very average designs (in my opinion).

Usually they do the whole range for 50% off in Dec/Jan and I buy a few new pairs to last me the year. Not sure if I missed that sale or it didn't happen :(

    • didnt happen this year, i was keeping an eye out

    • +1

Yes sadly the current DJ sale is not for the entire range.

If the 50% sale on all styles happened recently I must’ve missed it too. 😔

  • +2

    Polarised sunnies at below $50!

All the more reasons to believe you're paying extra for nothing for the bigger brands

    • Usually, but not always.
Some brands have glass or really clear plastic lenses that are noticeably clearer.

  • All of these show as full price for me?

    • There are a few models with “SAVE 50%” noted below the model name & above the price. Once added to cart you’ll see the discounted price.

  • +1

Damn, I got excited for a minute as I'm after a pair of Athertons. They're not on sale though.

    • +1

I think that’s my current favourite. I was a bit sad to see they’re not on sale but even at full price, they won’t exactly break the bank.

      • Yeah I like Clubmasters, but I can't justify the price, so I think these are a good alternative.

I found some for $49.95 shipped on eBay and with the AFTERPAY10 code it comes down to $39.95 shipped. Not bad.

        • +1

That’s pretty good. I have one in each of the two colour options but I reckon the black ones are classic 🕶

          • @ectogammat: Yeah I ordered the black ones. I'm not sure that tortoise shell suits me.

  • Anyone know what category darkness are there? I could not find any details in the specs. It is useless to buy more of the same "coloured glasses"…

    • +1

Not sure if this answers your question - I just found a tag from one of mine which says:

      Category 3

      High sunglare reduction

      Good UV protection

  • The Bondi ones seem to be the same price/cheaper elsewhere judging by google

    • Yeah Bondi (quite popular the last time) is not currently on sale at DJ, so if you’re after that particular model definitely shop around!

  • +1

Reading through the comments everyone seems to have a couple of pairs of sunnies. I don’t get it. I have 2 for the last 6 years. Are we really in that throw away spirit ?!?!

    • I don’t throw them away and they all work fine (none are damaged yet). I personally just like switch things up and have different styles to choose from. I have a sunglasses drawer. I probably have a problem.

      • Lol. I get you. For me though, Even at 2 pairs I already feel wasteful despite my need to have a non polarised pair and a polarised one.

    • +1

      You don't have kids.

      • I’ve got 2 ?

        • +2

If they dont destroy your sunglasses you're doing very well.

    • break or lose. I have 4 pairs of cancer council, one for each car and a two backups. Not sure how good of a charity cancer council is as Ive worked with them but far better than other sunny brands ive come across so far.

    • my sunglasses are rx, and the cheapest ones i've had made were still over $200. so one learns quickly to treat them with care…never leaving them in the car, cleaning them regularly with liquid soap, looking at where i'm about to sit down.

these days i have a few on rotation. some frames fit better if i'm wearing a hat, some give more coverage when driving, some aren't as dark for the partly-cloudy days.

Hmm shame, DJ just cancelled and refunded my order. Might have been ozbargained.

    • Same :(

    • That’s a shame and I assume they didn’t state the reason for the cancellation.

  • +5

DJ cancelled and refunded. Such a terrible website.

    • Oh that’s crap. Did the email state why?

  • -1

btw think these are made in China for anyone who asked

  • I like the Logan. Unfortunately, not on sale 🙁

    • +1

      $28 at Big W apparently!

  • +1

All well and good ……..Now Tell me about clip - ons .
not coupons, clip-ons, you know …
for people who wear glasses already.

  • +2

DJ's is a terrible on-line ordering experience, pathetic (lack of) customer service.
Order on-line for in-store pickup, website shows in-stock. 24 hrs later, get a paypal email for refund. Nothing from DJ with explanation. Contact customer service (after waaaaaaiiiiiting, and told they actually don't have it in-stock. Website stills shows it in stock at the store, and several others surrounding it. Ask customer service to check which of those actually have stock, customer service says would have to ring store direct and check, their website is not an accurate indication of items in-stock.
In otherwords, accepting online orders for items they do not have stock for.

  • There are only 9 glasses on the 50% off page now.
    Nothing great.

  • Be aware, these are the same Cancer Council sunnies that Big W sell for less (before sale).

The "WATRABA GUNMETAL WRAP SUNGLASSES" For $45 at 50% off? So, $22.50. A decent price.

I paid $30, full price, at BigW. (Not including at Woolies/BigW discounts you can get, like 15% off cards and such ($25.50) - so these are still cheaper. Not the most amazing deal, but it doesn't take much for an OzBargainer.

    • Thanks for the heads up.
I got one of these but was unable to find the same at Big W.
