Are Cancer Council Sunglasses Good?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a sunglasses (Aviator frame like the ones from Rayban - the one that Tom Cruise wore in Top Gun) from Cancer Council. It is polarised, 60$ but sale off to 45$. This is my first time buying sunglasses in Australia. I want to ask what everyone thinks of Cancer Council sunglasses in term of quality and durability? I bought it for summer using and also to use in my internship the end of this year when I go out to construction site for learning and supervision (I'm studying Civil Engineering).

Thanks all. Cheers :)

  • Hi there,

I'm no expert, but I believe the Cancer Council ones are great. There are two main categories of sunglasses - "fashion spectacles" (which just look like sunglasses, but will NOT protect you!) and actual "sunglasses", which meet Australian Standard 1067: 2003 (Sunglasses: Category 2, 3 or 4).

Your sunglasses should have come with a label indicating either Category 2, 3 or 4 - these are protective sunglasses. If they say Category 0 or Category 1, then they are just a fashion statement. I'm fairly certain the Cancer Council ones are all categories 2+. So you should be fine!

Categories 2 & 3 are most common for protective sunnies. :)

    Hope this helps!

If you pay tax on construction work, keep receipts for deduction. Also, sunscreen.
    Slip, Slop, Slap.

  • Quality - CC sells third party product, no brand but works and quality assured, think it's expensive on full price, and you already bought it in on special - so enjoy. next time you walk into Target, Kmart or Paddy's market, check the sunglasses they have and let us know if the CC is better. I think it is.

  • I owned some sunglasses from Cancer Council, they are ok I guess, just bought one from Aldi recently, love it, it's good quality and so comfortable to wear :)

  • Good morning Vietnam :)

    • good morning to you too :)

  • thanks all for your commments. It is category 3 polarised sunnies, and they feel great to wear too. also it does look very similar to Rayban Aviator which is the design I really like. So if it can last for a couple of years then I have no complaint at all.

Where did you buy them from khanhvu94? Cancel Council sell direct but also through some other retailers like selected chemist chains, Big W, etc

Cancer Council glasses need to comply with the the standard and they are a reputable organisation so likely to be fully compliant. I have them now and in the past and am very happy with them - especially as they are cheaper than many other brands for polarised glasses.

The other brands just jack up their prices for perceived value, pretty much marketing. Only difference worth paying for (assuming the glasses are fully compliant, which they should be in Aust) is glass lenses over plastic as they are more scratch resistant.

Category 3 is what more people wear to protect their eyes.

        Hi there,

I bought them from Myer, had warranty of some sort too so it's cool.
It has been very good so far now so I'm happy with it.

      • i picked up a pair of ray bans from the last sales for 110 dollars, they are perfect marksmanship, i will compare them to the C-Council ones from this deal which i got 3. ill let everyone know if there is a difference in quality which im sure there is specially around the metal hinge

Unless they're AS/NZS1337.1 certified (it will be stamped onto the glasses themselves), they shouldn't be worn on a construction site

I love my cancer council sunnies, got them for like $20 on sale and they're fantastic. Polarised lenses and good fit. Quality wise they seem to hold up well, had them for about a year now and they're still going.

  • thanks, picked up 3 for 75 bucks, we will see how the quality is.
