Not a bad gift for a nine year old's birthday. I find it hard to critique because I still remember when I was around that age, a basic no-zoom Canon or Kodak point & shoot cost around $100, equivalent to $377 in today's dollars - then you had to pay for the film rolls.
Though if the 9 year old has a phone, it might have a decent camera :P
For $50 a great deal… Reputable brand. +
I will not compare the specs to my $9000 SLR.
good sides… lithium pack, that's about it
bad sides… SD video, lens zoom isn't great and the lens specs seems a bit poor… 38mm equiv. f3.9 will make it fun when you want some large aperture action… i'm not sure that other $50 cams are better though
