Got Nitro through GamePass - of all the subscription services out there, it's probably the worst.

You can get a gif profile photo and a banner picture, create your own emojis, upload bigger files and stream at Source resolution @ 60fps for $10 USD ($14 AUD) a month!
I used the free server boosts to boost my own server and now my friends can stream at 720p @ 60fps. Previous to this it was 720p @ 30fps.

All of the "benefits" listed above are not worth $14 dollarydoos a month. Nitro offers nothing valuable to the normal consumer -it's basically a donation to Discord.

Use your free 3 months, pay via PayPal and remember to turn off automatic payments as soon as you have set it up.

    • Or just immediately cancel it and it stays active until it expires.

    • I'm amoungst a lot of gamers and it's staggering to know how many are willing to pay $15 a month just to use their own custom and animated emojis in other servers… or just to own a badge on their profile for a month.

IMO it offers nothing of value but for people who are on discord almost every day, it's an unpopular opinion.

      • I pay for Discord Yearly, and yes, it doesn't get you much, but it does help Discord pay for servers and staff without stuffing it to the brim with ads, which I'm all for.. (I Absolutely cannot stand intrusive advertising and block it in every single known way possible)

  • I use Skype or Google Chat…. or whatever they call it now… for gaming. Is Discord any better?

Discord is worse as it is centralised and Mods are sometimes unclear on their own rules. If someone is requesting material that is controversial and someone provides it, they shouldn't be banned. Literally the previous poster in this particular discord was requesting "examples" of this controversial topic. Basically I saw the poor guy got baited but as a consolation prize his post is now immortalised in fame. If anything the person requesting the material had questionable intentions.

I saw this happen on an Australian discord just yesterday.

Apparently it was political, but nothing in the post was political. There are a few scientifically justified statements if you take a few seconds to Google the topics. In other words, apparently it does not belong anywhere on that discord; but yet someone requested it. lol. I would say it belonged right where it did as an opinion, and nothing more.

I bet none of us have the balls to stand up and say anything about it, but it was very unprofessional conduct for a small business. So, if you are running a business, be careful that your mods do not allow their own personal opinions to reflect upon your company.

A lot of the time, particular discord mods treat us like children that cannot make our own decisions based on what others write. That's a big problem, but it is because inside we are afraid we did something to ourselves which was wrong. Every time I see the someone bring up the data, I get annoyed too that it has changed and I might have done something to myself that is detrimental. But I've learned it is alright to be upset.

You can just create your own server (free, hosted by Discord) and invite your friends to it, if you do it that way there is absolutely 0 moderation and you can post whatever you want.

      • I think that's anywhere where there are mods. Telegram is kind of like that. I got kicked from a group for even just copying and pasting what others said before me. As long as you say something that makes mods angry, they'll kick you out.

Which is fine by me. In this case, I just use it to talk to friends privately.

    • lower latency and it's not from microsoft or google

      • Nice. Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

    • It's more like a chat room/message board with excellent voice/video calling and game streaming features.

It's packed with features even if you use the free version, but upgrading it gives you some quality of life stuff. Better for gaming because of the in game overlays that let you see who is talking, capture mute/unmute/volume keyboard shortcuts etc.

It also has a tonne of voice control settings that are easy to access and play around with such as individually controlling the volume of others that you are hearing and noise cancellation to get rid of your background noise

      • Ah! Okay. Thanks!

I've been looking at NFTs recently and Nitro helps a lot to get whitelisted in the projects as you can customise your name, avatar and bio in each server.
