This is essentially Q950A without rear speakers. Those who prefer a clean set up or don't have space for rears, this is a good option. Half price according to Samsung. You can also buy at $799 from JB or Samsung direct.

I have a Q900T which is last year model and that thing is freakin loud and powerful. In a large open living room, I normally listen to it at about 15-20 volume out of 100 (movies maybe 25).
only if u live in sydney
I am Melb based and get free shipping to my postcode, probably free for metro areas
Free shipping to my Victoria address also
Called JB to price match. Asked for delivery inclusive price and got it at $756.
Thanks for this! Harvey Norman wouldn't refund me the difference so I had to cancel my existing order, wait for the refund to gift cards, perform a price match online and reorder again.
Would much rather give Appliance Central my business but unfortunately I already purchased discounted gift cards for HN :(
Does this pair with other brand TV's nicely? I have a Sony TV and have been holding out for a deal on the HT-A7000, but I'm wondering if I should just pull the trigger on the Samsung one.
All I am really after is to be able to control the sound from the TV remote and/or the Nvidia Shield remote. I'd assume it would work fine if the soundbar is plugged into the TV ARC and I plug the Shield into the soundbar or TV. Anyone have a similar setup who can comment on this?
I have a Sony tv and an Samsung q950t connected using arc. The tv actually disables it’s crappy speakers and controls the volume of the soundbar using the tv remote so you should be fine provided your tv has arc.
Thanks for the reply, exactly what I needed to know.
hows this compared to Sony HTG700?
I have the Q950A paired with my LG C1 and its just amazing. Brilliant sound (granted the Q950A comes with the rear speakers). Dolby Atmos is amazing, and the best thing for me is that there's none of that crappy annoyance where some scenes are loud then others quiet. Dialogue is just so easy to listen too.
For this price I reckon no one could really go wrong.
Great input - this is essential, cranking volume up tv and getting bombarded by the volume increase for the ads is torture on regular tv audio.
Yep we came from a Samsung 5.1 Bluray system and the difference was just mind blowing. Wife used to rip into me all the time for fiddling with the volume every scene (she swore I was deaf etc), but I never touch the remote now. Just set it at a reasonable volume depending if the kids are asleep and its legendary. I haven't really given it as much thought until I started typing this all, but the volume is just so consistent - it really is a great feature (no idea if that is Samsung, or Atmos, or just modern speaker systems themselves - but its worth its money just to avoid getting yelled at lol)
Couldn't agree more. We love this at ours.
Plus there's a night mode and voice enhancement setting using the app. Which really helps bringing balance to audio is quieter settings.
Is this better than the q70t? - My only issue with these sound bars is that they have no where near the amount of height required to have a decent woofer planted in it. My q70t system is quite good tho, i'm just wondering how much better the q900a is?
It's almost same price ($799) on samsung website and jb hi-fi. On samsung website, you may be able to get additional $50 discount if you sign up for newsletter etc. I think the price drop could be related to samsung planning to announce/ launch new set of devices next week.
"Discount off eligible purchases equal to or greater than $350 on the Samsung Online Store
(shop.samsung.com/au/) or selected Samsung Enhanced Partnership Program sites from 9.00am
(AEST) on 27 July 2020 to 11.59pm (AEDT) on 31 January 2022"
I'm sure the Q900A is pretty good, but prefer the mesh cover and display on the front on the Q70T.. still going well, $419 in the end and $150 for those rears, $50 for stands. Don't personally think it's worth spending too much on them.
Yeah same set up here - wondering how much better the Q900A is compared to the Q70T? Especially with regard to the ATMOS performance.
Probably just a bit better, still a soundbar and the Q70T used to retail for $8-900 I think.
It wouldn't be worth the changeover upgrading to a better one imo.FWIW the Dolby Atmos sounds noticeably better than the standard sound.
Only problem is that it's ugly esp with that fabric cover. Is it possible to just peel it off
no
I reckon….I've been tempted to pull the trigger on this sound bar in the past. But I think my wife would divorce me for buying something this ugly :D But its got great features and you can't go wrong with the price I don't think. A shame it doesn't have the aesthetics or some other brands (Sonos, etc.). I suppose the fabric has some sort of function with the sound though. Might be interesting if you have a cat and it decides its a scratching post :P
Apparently the new version coming out has done away with it
did price match with JB on Appliance Central and got it for $768 including delivery
I'm actually pretty keen on this soundbar, but i'm not sure if it's worth it if the surrounds cost $350 - perhaps it would be wise to wait until the q950a's price drops to something reasonable.
That is a fair call if you want the very best and have space for it. If you look at the review on rtings (table at bottom) Q900A is second ONLY to Q950A in the overall rating across all other soundbars reviewed to date. https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/best/soundbar
As many have commented and backed by rtings, Q900A is already pretty good without rear speakers. Not saying Q950A wont be better - I am sure they are. Do you need or want to spend extra 250-350 for the rear speakers when the improvement is arguably marginal.
That is a personal choice. Q950A should be obtainable around $1000 mark at the moment.
Yeah, i think that the q900a/q950 is definitely better than the q70t that i have - just curious if the 9100s rear speaker set would work with it? What's the lowest that the q950a will go to in your opinion?
It does say compatible on Samsung website so presume they wont work well. If it did, it would cannibalise 9500s.
Earlier comments indicated people have been getting just above $1000 mark. The price aside, its the stock level you gotta watch out if you need it this year. If you miss the boat, be prepared to wait till this years black Friday.
First negotiate at the retailers and see how far you can push. Personally I wouldnt pay any more than $1100. BTW, I have seen 9500S in low and mid 200s on samsung epp.
@Tupac: Yeah not many places have the 950a in Stock. Apparently it sold well which is understandable. If you gonna spend a lot of money of a sound bar might aswell get the surround speakers which add a lot to the experience.
Basically all sounds bars just produce noise. Decent sized speakers produce clean sound.
Better off investing in bookshelf speakers and a sub for depth. No selection of sound modes on any Samsung Bar can overcome the voice setting for people with a slight hearing loss. Clear voice is a joke.Anything is better than the default speakers, and if you're currently rocking those a sound bar is a huge upgrade.
Picked this up today. Can’t seem to get it registered to my Samsung account in the SmartThings app. The app finds the soundbar and progresses through all the steps, but gets stuck on the part where it’s trying to add to Samsung account. Anyone have this issue?
Sorted it out
Couldn't resist… Thanks OP!
If anyone has some solid settings advice for this and my older (2016) Samsung qled it would be greatly appreciated 🙏I just picked this up and compared to my old Sony htct800 this one is amazing.
Even in my disproportionate room it magically makes sound appear from the sides.. there must be some sorcery involvedJust replaced my htct800 with a cheap Sammy bar and sooo much better - Sony was very over rated.
+1
I come from Logitech Z906. No more fiddling of EQ. Just having one remote is fantastic.
Can you connect Bluetooth to this and play Spotify etc as well?
Deezer and TuneIn native and the others you can just cast through Bluetooth once connected like any other Bluetooth speaker.
Thanks OP got it for $750 for it at Harvey Norman Campbelltown on backorder delivery in about 2 weeks
Damn how’d you negotiate more off the deal?
Just asked the guy what he could do and he said 750. I was surprised didn't expect that much!
nice, i managed another 4% off with gift cards in the end.
Am considering grabbing this, but wondering on the best solution for playing music easily.
Ideally it works have Chromecast built in, but as it doesn't can I plug an old Chromecast into it and play music with the tv off like that?
Just cast with Bluetooth with your phone, it just acts like a Bluetooth speaker - TV off, soundbar on. You'd only use another device if you want the tv screen to be the client.
Thanks, but I'd want it to be part of a whole house audio group. Chrome cast built in would allow it, but they don't seem to have as good audio quality.
I played apple music through built in chrome cast and it's unreal
@maverickjohn: On what soundbar?
@kulprit: On the q900a here is details on samsung website for reference
"Easy pairing to your favourite devices*
Works with Alexa, Google Chromecast, Apple AirPlay2 and more*
Samsung Q900A Soundbar works with Amazon Alexa, Google Chromecast, Apple AirPlay 2 and more. Control your Soundbar and connected home devices through the SmartThings app so you can manage your entertainment"@maverickjohn: Thats right, must have been this year's new models (a models) that support Google Chromecast
@maverickjohn: Thanks so much. It's not on any Chromecast website weirdly.
Edit: Seems it got added in a firmware update.
Samsung Only seem to support Alexa (and maybe apple?) Unfortunately, no built in Google Chromecast. You could see if any have a line in but don't think most nests have a lineout.
I just use separate setup for streaming music, rpi4 a DAC and powdered monitors. Much better anyway.
I wanted a soundbar for tv movie mostly, and have a Chromecast with Google TV plugged into the HDMI input. I suppose can use that, and just turn tv screen off.
$795 Q900A or $775 Q870A?
I really don't know how much I'd be able to deal with the fabric of the Q900A… especially after seeing it in person today
Would the surrounds of the Q870A make up for the shortfall over the Q900A?One reason I got the Q70T - mesh, front display, HDMI input and Atmos. Not sure if you can still get them but they were heavily reduced so was a good buy.
Those fabric covers attract dust and would snag etc, doesn't seem that premium
Yeah, the display at the shop was absolutely filthy.
Even the surrounds on the Q970A used the same material.
edu store now $759. I managed to price match with JBH.

Will probably be getting a LG C2 later in the year once prices come down a bit.
Thoughts on connecting the HW-Q900A to the C2 with a NVidia Sheild and Panasonic DP-UB820 4K Bluray player?
