Price matching Kogan in case anyone prefers.

    • +11

haha I was going to say this - but then thought nah dont worry about posting because no one would rather support Kogan

      • +1

Haha I also went through that thought process, but I figured it might go out of stock at Amazon or some might have a First trial and no prime or Kogan gift cards to use up etc.

      • But I got 20% off kogan gift cards

    Amazon Price History: Average $52.39

  • What's heavy duty about it?

    • -2

It can’t travel overseas at the moment, so it’s not duty free.

    • +2

      It's made of metal.

    • +6

Construction I assume, nothing heavy about 175 joules

  • Why’s this better than the Cyber Power one that pops up all the time?

    • +1

      Because it's made of metal?

    • +5

No idea about this one but the CyberPower boards are so poorly built I would happily pay double to avoid them.

  • +4

Energy absorption: 175 Joules. That is a miniscule amount, I hope no one is using this protecting anything important.

Compare to even this simple APC Essentials unit (https://www.umart.com.au/product/apc-essential-surgearrest-1…): 918 Joules or the popular Cyberpower one (https://www.cyberpower.com/au/en/product/sku/CPSURGE08USB-AN…): 2750 Joules.

    • This this this this……

It's a peice of crap and won't save you from a fart.

    • I'd like to see a teardown of that cyberpower. Pretty much all cheapiers are built like a POS internally.. if you saw the inside, you'd never trust them. Maybe theirs is better, I don't know.

  • why the price is showing $49.95 when clicked

    • Try now, updated link. It defaults to next seller when the cheapest option is on backorder.

    • +1

Because you’re selecting the wrong seller.

which model does my OZB fellows recommend for one that has individual switches?

  • +7

Why, in this day and age, are there still only two sockets with wide spacing on a board with 8 ports?

8 wide spaced ports + individual switches = shut up and take my money

(Second rant: Instead they usually insist on adding usb… Which ends up dying or outdated too soon).

    • I bought an arlec from Kmart recently that has double spacing.

    • +1

Bought one of these on the weekend, 8 plugs, switched and a decent distance apart. 1000 joules. $60

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-8-outlet-2-x-usb-coax-surg…

Pretty sure it's built by Arista, there's an identical unit selling on ebay for $169.

      • Looks like a good unit in that respect - individually switched, wide spacing. But gee, it's not exactly discreet.

        • Nope. :) But I needed 8 switched plugs and that seemed the best option. Arista used to make a flatter version but I couldn't find any around.

          • @EightImmortals: Cool. How does it go with the angled sides? Do big power bricks fit or do they hit the floor?

            • +1

@justtoreply: I have it mounted on the wall. Haven't tried any bricks in it yet but the plugs seem pretty solid and if it was placed flat on the floor I don't think the brick would have anywhere to fall due to the angles of the unit itself. I guess a really big brick might touch the floor but you'd have to measure things out first I guess.

  • +1

Six of the eight sockets look crazy close together… gonna be tight even with the smallest of wall wart power supplies.

  • That's a long boi

  • Damn, too slow on my part and already gone.

  • Have one maybe older version crap power switch

  • +1

Have 2 of these. Really like their build.

  • +1

    Fairly solid build.

Mounted one to the underside of my standing desk earlier this month.
