Got a link to the drive? Cos that sounds like an external drive, not a portable one.
Were your 3Tb drives USB powered? Not needing a plugpack is worth paying a bit more for.
This is the best price I've seen on a 1.5Tb USB-powered HDD for quite a while. A year ago DSE was selling this drive for $129, but USB2 only, and it was very popular here on OzB. $20 premium for USB3 seems about right, it's a good price.
Oops, December last year, here's the old bargain:

Actually $0.10 a GB
LOL woops!
These drives without external power are bloody fantastic, especially as a companion for ssd laptops
going back to pre-flood value yey!
Good thing for that. Months ago people were predicting they wouldn't return to pre-flood values for at least a year or two at best.
This is a good deal.
I prefer WD..
I was going to say that haha, since the My Passport. Should I be looking at these instead?
Australia Post has the 2TB Seagate Expansion Drive with USB 3.0 for $129.
I think thats better than this deal?
post the link?
Apples are cheaper than oranges…
According to the Seagate website, they don't make a 2TB Seagate Expansion Portable Drive.
So I believe you are referring to the External Drive which needs an external power supply.
Yes your right :)
Thanks for the clarification - I thought I must have missed something majorly important :)
Thats ok! It would've been great if they did have a 2TB Portable Drive at that price :)
I paid under $130 late last year for a Goflex USB3 1.5tb
2.5" usb powered model.
they got taken off faster then a hot girls undies. great price
Purchased (despite average review on DS website)
Thnx OP :D
Based on 2 reviews though. And one of the reviewers have it a low mark because of the size. It is bigger than most portable 2.5" drives but it ain't exactly huge. Plus the reviewer was apparently getting slow speeds but I didn't have nearly the same experience so I don't know what was happening there.
I picked this up in store yesterday and so far so good. Happy to be able to carry around 1.5TB storage without needing a power supply.
Thnx mate :)
Also anyone know what drive (size) is inside when cracked open?
2.5" of-course.
Delivered :D
Warning: this drive is massive - nothing like any of the really portable drives. The specs given on both the DickSmith and Seagate website are wrong. Instead of 17.6mm high and 170g weight it clocks in at 27mm and 290g.
Did they get to 1.5TB by combining 2 x 750GB drives in that housing? It certainly is big enough for that…
We bought one instore and are now tossing up whether to drive back to the shop for a refund or not. The height dimension is actually shown on one side of the packaging - conveniently 90% covered by a sticker…
Hmm, thought Seagate had a 12.5mm thick 1.5TB 2.5" HDD. Perhaps only used on their go-flex line…
i'd rather the $159 3tb drives coming out of online computer not long ago… usb3 be damned
