Anaconda are having a 3 day sale

Men's: https://www.anacondastores.com/footwear/mens-footwear/mens-m…

Women's: https://www.anacondastores.com/footwear/womens-footwear/wome…

Picked up a pair of these to replace my old pair. Really like my Salomon's and haven't seen them at this price before. There's also some good deals on Adidas runners. Picked up the Runfalcon 2.0 TR for $59 (half retail). A bit annoyed as I only ordered a pair a few days ago from Adidas online as I needed a running shoe and I liked the feel of these, so will be testing out their return policy.

There's some camping gear in there too, if that's your thing.

  • Picked up a couple of pairs last time they were on sale for $99. Comfy for me, good weather proofing.
Might have to grab another pair as a spare.

    • That good?

      • +2

I do a lot of walking around in wet weather, so i want goretex boots and these are pretty good. I tend to wear them out in about 12-18m usually, but with pandemic, it's more like 2 years. I used to grab the old Columbia gear when it was on massive clearance and eventually ran my supply out :D

    • +2

Don't just leave them in a box for a few years unworn. They will breakdown.
Wear them every now and then.
There is a for it, hydo something.

      • Yeah, I try not to leave them longer than 18m

      • +1

It's called hydrolysis. I had a pair of Asolo hiking boots once where the midsole just disintegrated and pulled apart. I left them in a plastic bag unfortunately as I was moving house and did not use them for a few years. The cost to resole them was about $120-150 from memory but it pained me to throw the boots out because the top portion was just solid construction.

I think you should always leave the boots out where it does not build up too much moisture to avoid hydrolysis, although I am told newer construction methods avoid the use of cheap PU midsoles these days.

      • So they are designed for wet weather yet will break down even with desiccant? I'm very confused :(

        • The Goretex lining will keep your feet dry.
The outer sole and layers over a long time if not worn and kept in a plastic bag etc may go through hydrolysis.
          fax

        • If you wear them every month or two for a few days you will keep them in top condition.

          • @DarwinBoy: Why does wearing them every few months maintain the condition?!

            • @rt1111: Google hydrolysis and also search what kind of shoes you wear to get specific results.
But most people don't store there shoes correctly and that increases the breaking down of the shoe.
Wearing them will provide a break from those conditions and also push the moisture out of the shoe(assuming you don't wear them on a rainy day)

Ahh, bugger, I missed that :( Added it to the initial post though

      • Worth changing the title to $89

  • +1

Also free delivery if you spend $99 or more - which was handy as no stores near me had my size this time :)

  • Good deal, thanks!

  • Looking at buying my first pair of hiking boots. I'll be doing mostly pretty casual walks for day trips etc, nothing too advanced. Are these mids appropriate, or should I be getting something low cut?

    • +3

These would be fine but the extra ankle support might not be needed if only doing day trips carrying minimal weight. So a bit of overkill and hiking shoes or trail runners would be lighter and better

      • Thanks so much, I appreciate it.

        • Salomons have great lower cut hiking shoes too. I got a pair for $80 late last year from Anaconda.

    • The speedcross is great and popular for good reasons

  • +1

Mrs.Rake still using these for 4+ years now, great quality

  • +1

Good find was looking for a pair of hikers. Anyone know if these are on the narrow side for the front?

    • +2

I have a slightly wide foot and the sizing was good for me.

    • +2

I've got a wide foot and Salomon are good for me.

      • +1

Thanks have wide feet so ordered a pair.

  • +3

thanks missus just twisted her ankle on the trail so $99 to save me from carrying her back home is money well spent.

    • +6

Does she have enough supplies to last until the shoes are delivered?

      • +1

Ah shoot i knew i forgot something

    • How do these shoes help when she’s already twisted her ankle?

  • +1

Bought these 2 years ago for ~$170. Very light and durable. Best shoes since North Face stopped making quality shoes.

Edit: They do get hot though…

Edit2: Just bought another "Just in case" pair :D

    Good deal! Thanks mate

  • Thanks OP

Slightly weird sizes. Normally a US12=UK11, but the chart shows US11.5=UK11.
Have to hope they know what they’re doing

    • I reference the Euro sizing as well compared to my other shoes - just to be safe!

    • I agree, I ordered as per standard US size which fits me slightly tight, irrespective of their conversion table. If they know what they are doing, mine will be slightly loose which I don’t mind for a mid high boot.

Will we look as cool as George Costanza? https://youtu.be/0e58SiFSxLs

  • +1

    Look alright for mowing…

  • Absolutely love my current pair of Salomon's, very happy to pick them up at this price. Also got 3 Qantas points per $1 spent, since I couldn't find any cashback deals

  • Thanks op

  • Good price for a damn good brand. I got high cut as I have poxy ankles, but I doubt I'll ever look at another brand now. Comfy, sturdy, stable on the trail, and so far holding up admirably to wear. For $99 it's a no brainer.

  • +2

I just discovered a hack, most stores are out of stock in certain sizes but if you can find one put it in your cart at full price before logging in then login to Anaconda and you will get free delivery

    • Which store did you put it in? Cannot find any store with stock of size 13.

    • +2

Awesome and $10 off for free delivery as well

    • Doesn't look like a hack, looks like the free delivery is applying on anything $99 or more.

I logged into the website and then added and it still applied free delivery.

      • Oh yeah so it does.Glad I didn’t have to buy anything else to get the delivery.

  • Can't justify the purchase given I have no use for the high ankles but great price for great shoes.

  • Thank you OP. We were looking for a good pair

  • +2

    Must.resist.another.shoe.

  • Thanks

  • How flexible are these shoes? I have the Skechers hiking shoes and while they’re comfy enough, they’re also so rigid and heavy that I can’t really manoeuvre my foot for any tricky tight spots.

    • +1

Hard to find shoes that are more comfy than sketchers!

  • Does the Goretex make it too warm to wear in the summer?

  • Be nice if places like Anaconda sold wide shoe sizes as well. Always difficult for those of us with flipper feet. Often I have to by direct from the US as so many Australian shops refuse to stock wide fitting shoes.

    • +1

Same. It's actually harder than it was in the 1960s attempting to get half sizes or fractional fittings.

Exacerbating that for older Australians, Australian stores have shifted to using US Mens sizing as their Mens' shoes standard frame of reference. But once you get past that, it gets even worse.

No choice of fractional fittings is pretty much de rigueur for most brands selling in AU today, New Balance excepted. But even they offer fractional fits only in limited range of models and colours. Particularly annoying is the increasing trend of so many AU etail stores only offer only full sizes. e.g. 8, 9, 10, etc.

The worst of online stores, they haven't actually adapted their sales model where one can't try to provide any indication of a shoes standard D last being a narrower or wider fit. One has to rely upon comments from other user reviews or personal pre-experience with brands and even style to determine that.

For choice and fit, buying from the US where one can at an amenable price is definitely my preferred way to go now. AU stores only have themselves to blame.

    • The KEEN brand shoes (also in anaconda) worked best for me because they had a wide toe box, and fit me really well, so I'd recommend them for anyone with wide feet.

  • Thanks OP. So frustrating when websites hide the comments with lower ratings. It's helpful to understand the products, warts and all.

  • Thanks OP. Good replacement for my worn out Columbia’s. Great price.

I've been looking for a decent pair of hiking boots for ages to replace my only-used-once Merrell boots that have the worst grip known to man on slippery rocks. They're fine on wet ground or mud but there's no point in owning them if they're basically unusable on wet rocks. Most hiking trails I use have creek crossings and I almost broke my neck using the Merrells. I was about to buy these Salomons but then I read some reviews that said these are also slippery on wet rocks.

Can anyone vouch for their grip on wet rocks?

  • Applied coupon and bought.

    Ez Pz.

  • Is it allowed to use this shoes for aged care worker?. I start my placement soon so I want to prepare my stuff. Thanks

    • +2

you can wear anything you want really but I'd go for a pair of comfortable skechers. these are more for the trail for stability grip and water resistance, it's not going to be as breathable or comfortable as something you stand / walk all day in, in an indoor setting

  • was looking for a pair of Salomon hiking boots to try out as my first hiking pair. I went with this, for $89 I won't be complaining! thanks OP!

  • Was correct to be worried about sizes. Got UK11, which their size chart had as US11.5.
    I’m always a UK 11 (usually US 12)
Far too small, couldn’t even get the damn thing on my feet.
    Going straight back

    • Ring your local store and see if they can swap them for the next size up?

    • Same with me. Usually UK10 but these were too tight. Swapped at local store for next 1/2 size up and are fine.
