  • Ardbeg or Aberlour?

      Both :)

      Yes

I'm far from an expert, but the two are made differently. Ardbeg is from the Islay region and is very "peaty" or has a smoky flavour and Arbelour is a Speyside whisky which is sweeter and more fruity.

      From wikipedia:

The Visit Scotland website indicates that the region's whiskies have a fruity nature "ranging from ripe pears to sultanas" and some exhibit "sweet, caramel and fruity notes".[11] Another review states that the use of peat is not common here, so many of the whiskies are not "smoky"; the article concluded that "typically, most Speyside whisky is fruity, sweet, and nutty, featuring notes of apple, honey, vanilla, and spice".

From personal experience, I have the Arbelour A'bunadh and it is amazing and probably my favourite drop. I also have the Ardbeg Corryvreckan and find it to be very harsh on the tongue.

Your personal taste may be very different to mine, but i prefer the sweeter flavour of the Speyside whiskies.

Great comment. The A'bunadh is probably my second favourite whiskey ever, second only to Nant (before, you know, …)

        • wonder what batch the a'bunadh is up to now. I still use a batch 46 bottle as my personal solera blend bottle.

          • @pingponged: Mine's batch 35. What can I say…I'm not a big drinker

          • @pingponged: I really need to start an infinity bottle. Most things I've read though so they're really a novelty, and the quality is usually somewhere between just drinkable and downright awful.

            How have your results been?

            • +1

@anzacpaul: It's more that it's been nteresting watching the taste profile change, it's been at least 7 years now with of the remnants of a few dozen bottles so it's not really got any specific identity now.

That said once I put far too much of a Laphroaig into it and took quite a while to balance it out again but that's all my own fault and learning

Ordered a few whiskies from Boozebud ebay 2 days ago and it got delivered this morning which is amazing in this day and age. They used startrack express.

Meanwhile the RATs I ordered 3 weeks ago still haven't shown up.

I ordered Tuesday at 5.15, received yesterday at 5. Was thoroughly surprised.

Just bought this as the price dropped from I think it was 115 to 100 before discounts (~$78 after disc with ebay plus)

    • How would you rate this to lagavulin 16?

      • Dunno never tried the port Charlotte but you generally can't go wrong with what Bruichladdich puts out and the Laga16 has a legendary reputation for a reason…

      • It's not as good as Laga 16, but still nice, and definitely worth the purchase at this price

Thanks for the replies. Bought one and can't wait to try it

  • I picked up a Gold for $55 before xmas

What's a good price for the Green?

    • +3

You used to be able to get Green quite regularly reduced to $65. Now it seems to retail for $85 and get reduced to $70, but less often than before.
My personal preference is paying a bit extra for the Green over the Gold.
$70 (retail at Dan’s) will also get you the Black Label Islay Origin (Caol Ila and Lagavulin blend), which is also very good for the money.

    • $62 is the magic number for me

JW Green came up as $67.85 for me. Thanks OP!

    Oogie and JW15. Nice drams.

Was fortunate enough to snare a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed for under $70 delivered with the 22% discount code applied. It's out of stock now, but may come back in stock (that occurred earlier, and was when I made my purchase).

I picked up both the Gold Label and the Green Label using this deal, with the PJAN22 code, plus I purchased both items using an eBay voucher purchased from Shopback which stacked me an extra 3% cashback!

Top this off, I paid for the eBay voucher using the bundll mastercard promotion, which also earned me a $30 Uber Eat voucher.

    WINNING!

    • Enjoy!

Personally the Gold Label (current version) is redundant. The 18 is better (it replaced the old Gold Label and Platinum) and the Green Label beats both of these.

  • Royal Salute 21 - $159.89

bought this but got delivered the 1L version! super happy with it. Not sure if it's mistake or everyone who bought it got the 1L version instead of 700ml.
