Hi Ozbargainers,

I've had a couple of phone calls, emails and a PM about putting a deal together which includes Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Cold & Flu. I'm guessing with many people either stuck at home or fearing being stuck at home they want their meds drawer full.

It's a really tough securing stock at Ozbargain friendly pricing at the moment with many items oos at wholesale level and many deliveries simply not arriving at all. Low or no stock leads to pharmacy reps not wanting to cut any "deals" so tonight's deal is a bit of mixed bag being: a combination of what I "think" people are looking for and what I can get my hands on at a reasonable price, I've managed to secured 50 of the below bundle for Ozbargainers tonight.

  • 100x Paracetamol 500mg (Sandoz, generic Panadol alternate), exp12/23
  • 96x Ibuprofen 200mg (Trust, generic Nurofen alternate), exp 01/23
  • 48x Cold & Flu, Day & Night PE (Pharmacy Action, generic Codral alternate) exp: 12/22
  • 70x Cetrine10mg (Dr Reddys, generic Zyrtec alternate) exp: 02/24
  • 70x Hayfexo 180mg (Dr Reddys, generic Telfast alternate) exp: 05/24

What can you replace the diarrhoea tablets with ? Still haven't used any from last purchase.

    • +41

Quick, someone give him a gift certificate to Taco Bell.

      • Taco Bill* if you live in VIC. Never again.

        • +2

FYI Taco Bell is now in Melbourne

          • +2

@TheAustax: I know, but Taco Bill is significantly worse from experience if you're looking to find a use for the diarrhoea tablets..

        • They opened an American Taco Bell on Chapel st, it's surprisingly bad.

          • +1

@Jimbuscus: They have 4 stores in Melbourne, I don't mind it for "fast food" the Boss Buritto is quite good.
I've not had a case of the runs (yet) from Taco Bell ;)

        • I remember that place! I went there in Albury once.

          Wasn't terrible, wasn't special either.

      • +2

Local kebab shop will do in a pinch

    • +8

hydroxychloroquine ? Sorry, i mean remdesivir.

      • +1

        Paxlovid?

  • Any deals for the fexos? 140 tabs?

  • +35

Damn, this showbag is getting depressing AF.

    • +7

It is literally a showbag for covid omicron symptoms…

      • Wait what's with the Imodium?

        • +8

Helps to ease the TP shortage

        • +2

There are reports that omicron causes more cases of diarrhoea, can't give the exact source now though.

PE in cold/flu medications just doesn't work.

    Pseudoephidrine is the way.

    • +7

      This is the way.

    • +1

Amen. Nothing else worth it when sick. Just give me the hard stuff man.

    • +3

The difference between taking a cold/flu tablet.
If you don't take any your cold will last a whole week.
If you do your cold will only last 7 days

      • Yeah it takes a week to get rid of it or 7 days if you go the doctor

    • Through ingestion, 100% agree. However as a nasal decongestant spray PE works wonders

      • Saline also works as a decongestant. You could add PE to that and it would still work as a decongestant.

        • Not quite the same. Phenylephrine hydrochloride, when sprayed inside the nose, causes the turbinate tissue to contract, temporary opening the nasal passages. The effect is short lived (matter of hours) and if you use it for more than a couple of days straight you can start to develop a reaction to it, but for short term relief it is one of the more effective medications I've tried.

Saline, or salt water, just flushes the nose out. It doesn't interact with the tissues, other than to maybe hydrate them a little.

  • any deals on multivitamins/supplements?
(Yeah i know they don't work)

    • If they don't work why do you want them?

    • Let's just ignore the vast amount of literature showing that supplements work

      • I don't think you'll find one credible source that a "multi vitamin" specifically has any real benefit.

However taking your vitamins separately throughout the day as specified by the health and research professionals now that works. One multivitamin that has everything in it, might as well use your money to start a fire.

        • +1

I said supplements not multi vitamins…

          • @boydbino: Where the point of taking a multi vitamin if it isn't supplementing your lack of vitamin intake due to a poor diet or other health issue?

A multi vitamin is a supplement, you take it because your are lacking something. And if you aren't there's no need to take it.

            • @spaceflight: He mentioned supplements, I am not talking about Multivitamin. Many people supplement various vitamins or foods as it can be difficult for them to get optimum levels in their diet and lifestyle.

For example Vitamin D, or Protein. It is much easier to supplement protein with Whey than getting it through your diet if you struggle to meet your needs with food intake.

          • @boydbino: My bad thought OP was originally just talking about multi v :)

        • -1

You sound like you're associated with a vitamin company to make such a claim.

Yes.. Medically tested low vitamin b can benefit for a b 12 shot.
          For example.

But sorry. This is just clever marketing based on creating fear.

          • +1

@FredAstair: Sound like I am associated with a vitamin company? I am a graphic designer. Some specific supplimentation is not based on fear and has been used for other reasons pre COVID. For example vitamin D can be useful to boost your overall bit D levels if you live in an area with low sun exposure.

And at the price of $8 for 250 capsules, it's hardly any investment for most people.

      • Yeah they do a good job of increasing the chance you'll be diagnosed with cancer

        https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/571765/Vitamin-h…

        • Too much of anything applies here.

Thus is why Eskimos dont eat polar bears on a regular basis I guess.

          • @FredAstair:

Too much of anything applies here

            Of course.

But just because you can buy a vitamin tablet does not mean you need to buy and take it.

And just because you can buy a vitamin tablet does not mean you need it.

And just because you can buy a vitamin tablet does not mean the usage of it is safe.

And just because you can buy a vitamin tablet does not mean there will be any benifit from taking it.

Basically eat a healthy and balanced diet and you won't need a vitamin tablet.

      • -1

Lol. Some supplément junkie just downvoted you.
Here.. Take my educated up vote in its place.

  • +6

PE tabs might as well just buy a box of tictacs and take those. Same effect.

  • Throw in a partridge in a pear tree and you might have a deal.

  • any nembutal deals?

  • Could have chucked in a couple of RATS…

    • +2

      What's the S stand for
      Stick?
      Sample?
      Syringe?

      • spaceflight?

        • +2

I'm no rat. Snitches get stitches and I'm afraid of needless.

    • +1

      You mean quarter of Rat?

  • +1

If we're willing to email a licence and medicare; can you do real pseudoephedrine?
Phenylephedrine last I checked actually caused histamine responses in quite a lot of folks.

    • +4

I'm the same non pseudoephedrine cold n flu do nothing for me.. meth users killed it for us legit users

    • Can't speak for the OP, but I think this would be unlikely. Apart from the ID required for record of supply requirements, over-the-counter pseudoephedrine is scheduled as a Pharmacist Only medication. Technically, this more or less means that a Pharmacist must personally have a consultation with the patient to ensure safe and appropriate use.

I guess as another thing, it's harder to verify identity online, since who's to say the person placing the order is the same one as on the ID supplied?

      • If they're sending it to the address on the licence, its at least a step in the right direction.

And again if the medicare card confirms said address.

    • -6

Australia Post prohibits sending drugs and pharmaceutical products so pseudoephedrine cannot be sent by post.

But nothing for sale in this deal can be sent in the post so the store is breaching Australia Post rules.

    • +1

Also happy to comply with some form of KYC for the real ones. I'm sick of being treated like a meth addict when i'm sniffling away in my trackies at a chemist. Last time i was sick (back in Jan 2020!) i was denied 3 times before i was able to get a pack.

      • Duh, suit up!

    • *Phenylephrine.

There was a time a few years back when I had a fever (pre-COVID) and had a big presentation the next morning. Since I was flat out that week, while also sick, I was working on the presentation the evening before. So, naturally, I took some Cold & Flu and tried to push through it. About 20 minutes later I was covered in hives and almost on fire.

I had to drive about 30 minutes in this condition during peak hour traffic to a 24/7 medical centre, wait another 30 mins to get in, then found out I was allergic to the medicine I took. The whole time it was inexplicable and I just thought the fever was getting worse on its own and I was going to die. The prescribed antihistamines worked fast though.

      Would not recommend.

Advice for anyone who has any similar reaction: get some antihistamines quick and remember to note phenylephrine on your allergies when seeing a doctor. You won't come across phenylephrine in anything other than cold and flu medicine, so just be mindful when buying that.

      • -1

Better than “noting allergies” is …just don’t take it to begin with. There is no documented efficacy. It’s snake oil.

        • When you note allergies while visiting a GP or hospital, that's so they do not give you the medicine. Taking or not taking it on your own time is irrelevant.

          • @mett139: Fair statement, I guess. But lol what hospital is prescribing that lmao… this person took it of their own accord.

  • Are you able to substitute the cetirizine for loratidine?

    • Sorry not in this deal (Loratadine 50x tabs at the moment is around double the price of the cetirizine), let me see what I can arrange for the next deal.

  • Sounds like a party.

    • How many would you need

  • Dr Reddys is Indias biggest pharma

  • Any deals on Ivermectin?

  • Any change of getting Ibuprofen Liquid Capsules 200mg 100 Pack?

  • +1

anyone bought these and mixed them all together in a cauldron? might be able to make magic

    • I'm thinking of taking them all at once.

      • +1

        Username seems appropriate

        • I tried this morning and it didn't work

  • Sorry might be offtopic but is there any difference between ibuprofen liquid capsules vs ibuprofen tablets??

    • Apparently the liquid caps are absorbed into the body faster and more efficiently but it's mostly marketing at least according to my local pharmacist the difference is negligible so save yourself a few $s and just get whatever is cheapest at the time.

      • thanks, well I'm about to find tomorrow cos I had a few drinks and I'm going to take tablets to see what difference it makes.

    • +1

One is liquid and soft the other is powder and hard.

    • Capsules easier to take maybe? I know I struggled as a kid with tablets because they'd start dissolving when they touched my tongue and make me feel sick. Fine now though.

  • +2

    Can you include an oximeter?

  • Last time I ordered from here, LL of my boxes were opened and the tablet packets scattered throughout the parcel.

I've been too nervous to try one.

    Is this normal for them?

    • +3

      Yep, flat packed.
Soft parcels are cheaper than solid boxes, and they cut us a good deal already.

      • +1

Soft parcels are cheaper than solid boxes, and they cut us a good deal already.

        That's not how it works

Flat packed means they can send it as a letter as it's less than 20mm thick.
