Referral link for the $47 here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculus.com

Completely missed this, and I call myself an OzBargainer.

      • Contact support: you might still be able to swing it

        • Doubt it, I bought my Quest back in October. Thanks though!

    • How does it work if I want to join as a referrer and share my code?

      • +2

Go to this link and go down to Oculus and press accept PMs. That link should work, I just put your user id in instead of mine.

        • awesome! thank you!

    • Make sure you have PM's enabled for ozbargain, or the person you msg for a referral won't be able to msg you back with their fb link.

  • +6

Your regular reminder to sign up through the Oculus referrals before activating your headset (via Ozbargain) so you can get $47 worth of store credit to spend on the Oculus store

    Mod: Added link.

    • +2

Very worth it, the games are expensive! Got free beatsaber for mine tho using all of the credit so I'm all set ^-^

      • +4

Set up side quest and BMBF.

        • Absolutely on the to do list!

        • I was worried about being banned for doing this - has their been any banning recently or has beatsaber basically turned a blind eye on this?

I opted and still love synthriders for this - custom songs is 100% supported, and a much better music rhythm game.

          • +1

@chillipaste: I don’t know about banning but given the age of the community and the need to buy the game on Quest to do it I don’t think they care. Chrome mod and the custom songs just take it to a new level.

I tried Synth but couldn’t get into it. Just love the flow of Beatsaber too much.

          • @chillipaste: oculus doesnt really care about modding games, there will be a scary warning whenever you open the game because its sideloaded, but the chance of you getting banned from it are almost none.

          • +2

@chillipaste: Not a single person has been banned I believe.

Just do it. I'm enjoying the mods and custom songs way too much.

            • @I Smell Pennies: Oh so I can get music I like, then, instead of just the stuff they sell for Beat Saber?

              • @RichardMelbourne: Yes. There are thousands of songs made by fans but I recommend being able to play on Extreme difficulty as a bare minimum as so many of the songs start on extreme. The game doesn’t really feel fun until you play it at higher levels. Well for me. My brain can’t keep up with extreme plus though!! I’m getting to old. Should be moving so fast that you are breaking a sweat though. A lot easier if you use the two finger claw grip too so you can swing and flick faster.

Chrome mod basically adds a whole new level of special effects. This is a great track and is an excellent example.

                https://youtu.be/DfzD_Ca4fp4

Set up a bsaber account and you use the website to mark favourites and then just load all of them via BMBF.

                • @Third_Gear: Awesome, cheers mate. I've only played for a few minutes because that music drove me up the wall. I need 70's, 80's Led, Metallica, etc.

      • toss up between beat saber and superhot VR imo

    • +6

      yes

Isn't this just the normal price now? There doesn't seem to be any discount to it. Is it just that its back in stock and thats why you're posting this 'deal'?

    • +1

Yeah this is the normal price. Not sure why it was posted.

      • +8

        OzBackInStock.com.au

    • +2

Hey, it's OOS, must have been a worthwhile notification post after all.

    • +1

Isn't this just the normal price now?

Correct, in a way. When it's in stock, this is the "standard" price.

      But:

      • It's been out of stock for months, so the actual price in that time was ebay scalper prices, which were much higher.

      • The normal price is still a great deal when similar quality alternative VR systems are double and triple the price.

So yes, this is technically a bargain, by definition.

      • I got mine last time as it came with 100 bucks amazon credit, don't think this is really a deal at normal price

    • +3

The logic of Ozbargain. Sometimes someone posts something like this and gets downvoted into oblivion because there is no deal. And sometimes they get 50 upvotes because why not.

  • +24

Still owned by facebook? That's a hard pass.

    • They were supposed to have implemented a non fb way of logging in. No idea if they've completed that.

      https://www.arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/10/meta-removing-fac…

Apparently you can request it now and they'll do it, but ymmv and no referral credit as it relies on fb.

      • -1

You can contact customer service for this

        • +1

Have you successfully done that? I can’t get past the ios app registration screen, but I’m probably looking in the wrong place.

          • +7

@ehhh: No I've never gotten over my mistrust of Facebook enough to buy one tbh. I've been really close to buying a couple of times.

            • @[Deactivated]: how about setup another facebook account, put real first name but misspell your last name on it. thats it. no need to put any other info

              • +4

@CyberMurning: Sounds great until they delete your account

                • +1

@sini180: Yep, they will delete your account and purchases if they find it's fake info.

                • @sini180: are you sure about this ? so i need to put real photo ? and fill up all the details?

                  • @CyberMurning: Probably not because of blank photo but duplicate accounts they will. Might take a month. Might take a year. But it'll get deleted at some point. I would just use real account or ask to delink from Facebook which they allow.

                    • @sini180: no impact on our oculus store credit? and no warning what so ever?
not duplicate as i made the surname different

                      • @CyberMurning: Different surname doesn't matter. If it's a fake account or you use two accounts they will eventually figure out. Facebook does what it wants so who knows. I had a separate account years ago and was removed without warning.

            • @[Deactivated]: They'll probably collect your data on what you used and what your interests and retarget

            • @[Deactivated]: If your mistrust of facebook is that much, they do sell a business edition of the quest 2 without that requirement. It is $900 plus though.

              • @superroach: I know, thats the payoff for giving them your info I guess

      • Are they? I thought they were doing the opposite.. Forcing all oculus accounts into a Facebook account.

    • +3

      Wrong - owned by Meta!

      • Well played.

    • +7

Still owned by facebook? That's a hard pass

      What's the meta?

      • -6

thats what facebook are changing thier name to

        • +6

          Whoosh!!
What's the meta is a play of words on what's the matter :-)

    • Facebook sucks, but if you want a high-quality VR headset (and you do if you like video games at all, it's pretty amazing) this is a third of the price of the competition.

If it's any consolation, you aren't giving money to Facebook when you buy these, since they cost more than this to make.

      • You kind of are though because they’re just mining your data. I can wait til a more ethical corporation enters the market at a decent price range.

      • How much does it cost to make and sell?

  • +8

This is the highest price ever according to the camels- https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08V51TP2C

There have been many better deals in the past for this item and it is mostly in stock since release. Where is the deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/oculus-quest-2

    • +1

Highest ever aka the normal price. It's not above.

The real problem is these keep selling out and can't be purchased for long periods.

  • +1

    Welcoming Meta Wars!

    https://www.reuters.com/technology/microsoft-buy-activision-…

May the winner offer consumers better prices.

    • And more privacy.

    • +3

Honestly as someone that has been a PlayStation fan over Xbox for pretty much the entire console war between them I'd trust MS over Facebook, Google, PlayStation etc any day. I have serious trust issues with Facebook/Meta and I don't trust Sony to be able to look after my interests from outside parties.

      • No idea why you would trust one of the largest data aggregrators and wanna-be ad networks - that would be Microsoft - over Sony Playstation.

MS makes money by collecting your data, sharing and exchanging it with the other privacy violators and then selling access to it.

        • +3

Like I said, Sony's past failures to protect my data including payment information.

        • Microsoft has a history of abusing their position of power, especially when they become the market leaders, the core company mission is simply money.

  • +1

That would be right, as soon as I order a 256gb and it's shipped they have the 128gb finally back in stock that I could have done a warranty replacement for my faulty unit on :(

    • +3

get refund for the 256gb (or amazon agent once said to me: just refuse to accept the delivery on the day).

      • Looks like its out of stock anyway. Would have been too much of a hassle as I logged a refund return on my faulty one.

  • +2

    Normal price.

    • +2

Which is worse? Someone posting normal prices or posting subs deal?

      • +1

Both just as bad, but at least we can block the subs deals (on new deals page at least). Blocked them myself the other day and no longer see them.

  • +1

This is just the normal price…

  • +9

Amazon had this with $100 amazon credit at the same price on Black Friday.

    • +1

Yes that's when I got mine, plus the $47 referral,

  • Not sure if this applies in Australia but in the US, many people are having issues with getting warranty replacements of the controllers due to low supply.

  • +1

Not a deal, this is normal price.

  • +2

i got a friend got this and keep saying i should get it… so maybe its good

How's the VR porn on this device? Asking for a friend

    • +5

      I heard from a friend it’s good

      • Lol

    • Exceptional

    • +1

friend said overrated, got over the same view all the time

    • +1

tell your friend to use it during his hot session with his wife.

    • heard from a friend two words "The Handy"

    • It's insane. Felt like I had a sex change during that 5 minutes.

  • Non tech person here. I believe there are two ways to play this - on it's own or hooked up to your computer in some way. My computer isn't really very powerful so if I were to just play as a stand alone, is there anywhere that tells me which games I can play? (e.g. I've heard Alyx can't be played stand-alone).

    • +1

All the standalone games are through the Oculus store.

    • +1

Anything listed in the store will work https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/
You can occasionally buy a key from somewhere else for cheaper that will redeem in the store .e.g.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672803 and
       https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculiumvr.com

    • Some simpler software/games play on the device (I'm guessing it has a phone level of cpu/gpu), some streams via your PC (Half Life Alyx via SteamVR) or Oculus link streams your more demanding cpu/gpu games.

Streaming from your PC can be done with a long USB-C cable plugged into the headset and your PC or you can enable the beta version of "Air Link" which streams over the wifi and has been working quite well for me. I think it won't be long before you won't need a cable tethered to your PC at all as long as your wifi is performant.

    • +1

I bought mine thinking I'd use it 100% for PCVR, and make use of the small god of a PC for it.

In the end, I've spent most of my time playing on standalone titles. They're surprisingly good given the limited grunt driving them.

Games like Beat Saber I actually prefer on the Quest - latency makes the Steam version suck for me.

  • -1

probably can have an ozbargain meta meet up

    • yup next year ozb birthday maybe i can get @scotty to approve something like we all watch movie together inside VR, and he gives us $25 each for our time —- lol….
