    Kogan? No thanks.

  • Wow looks great, tho i still prefer xiaomi for the curve and the price (ebay+ sale)

    • +2

Several better specs than the Xiaomi though
      USB-C
      IPS
HDR400 (better than HDR10 but still… not really HDR).

      • +2

I would much rather have an IPS panel over a VA from experience. The white aesthetic is a nice touch for those who appreciate it and there is two RGB light bars on the rear of the monitor aswell for extra gamer of course.

        • -4

With literally zero mention of the rear light strips and my knowledge of Kogan products, I would guarantee those lights can't be turned off. That in itself is a deal breaker.

          • +3

@Tacooo: Just use your imagination and put some tape on it.

          • @Tacooo: I have this monitor, you can turn the lights off in the menu. It's not even that bright when it's on

The correct answer is to buy the new Dell model.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-s3422dwg

      • watchout thought, this popular Dell model albeit a great performer in many things it has been noted to still have the G-Sync flicker at lower FPS and a bit of motion blur that VA panels usually suffer from…

I have succumbed to Gigabyte M34WQ instead due to this…

        • -1

Did you even test the Gigabyte before doing that? AFAIK almost all Samsung panels do that, and AUO VA may be the same as it may be a controller board issue.

Most people don't use VRR (competitively they don't because it adds latency), and they tend not to let frame rates dip down to the 0-20 FPS mark where this usually happens, so you've basically spooked yourself into a silly purchase.

          • @jasswolf: interesting that i got negged whereas various reddit forums and RTINGS reviews of the Dell already mentioned this…

i am merely bringing this to everyone's attention as G-Sync flicker was annoying to me in my previous VA panel that I had…

i dunno why you are asking if i have tested the Gigabyte because I am actually typing this message using this monitor and have had it for a few days and tested using Pendulum demo at lower FPS…

another way to easily test it would be to enable G-Sync for both Fullscreen and Windowed mode and run Xbox Game Pass app and you will see the flicker. Age of Empires 4 would be a good test as well as it has a lot of static images.

I'll drop this comparison link so you can do your own research:

            https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-s3422dwg-v…

They are comparative in terms of performance, however, the Dell is indeed has been signficantly cheaper… but those that hate the flickering VAs may want to stay away…

            • -1

              @meong: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-s3422dwg-v…

This is the only comparison I care about.

If you knew anything about RTings scores, and anything about how response time is measured by them, you'd recognise there is a wider gap between the two panels than what the measurements show.

Hardware Unboxed and Aperture Grille have some great content on this, and have been using this updated methodology since the start of 2021, alongside TFTCentral.

These days RTings is only good for checking ergonomics and inputs.

As for your flicker issue, you can set VRR on a per-game basis if you wish. You can also adjust your graphics settings to prevent major drops. VRR mattered more 3 or 4 years ago. Nowadays, people are moving up to 240Hz, and it just doesn't matter so much.

          • -1

@jasswolf: Most people who game do it competively and they do that on 34" ultrawides? I never knew that.

            • -1

@NingNangNong: Your reading comprehension needs work… I used brackets/parenthesis to separate out the concepts.

Most people use FreeSync monitors, which don't have VRR enabled by default. Most competitive gamers disable VRR if it's enabled because it increases latency.

Tearing is a minimal issue beyond 120Hz, save for specific, consistent movements, hence why you test VRR with a pendulum swing. The higher the refresh rate goes, the less it becomes an issue.

              • @jasswolf: Well done, you did indeed add non-essential, largely simplified information in - much like the guy you were trying to rib on for doing the same thing.

Edit for the two extra paragraphs ya edited in: no need, you did it again, see above.

Edit 2: I get triggered (my fault) when people use "most" to mean "me/I".

              • +1

@jasswolf: Maybe you can focus more on having healthy technical discussion instead of being condescending to people who reply to your messages… also you may want to not get used to the habit of negging everyone who has a different point of view to you…

  • Most IPS panels in this form are 95%+ Adobe RGB. I take it this is lower grade panel compared to those monitors.

  • Watch it be even cheaper in a couple of months

This regularly goes on sale for $600. Not 100% sure, but I read somewhere that it uses the same panel from the Acer Nitro XV340CK.

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xv340ck-pb…

    8.4
    Gaming
The Acer Nitro XV340CK Pbmiipphzx is a great gaming monitor. It has low input lag, a fast response time, and a high refresh rate to provide a smooth and responsive gaming experience. It has FreeSync support and is also compatible with G-SYNC to help reduce screen tearing. Sadly, its IPS panel's low contrast ratio makes it less ideal for gaming in the dark.

    PROS

    Excellent response time.
    VRR support.
    Good ergonomics.
Large screen size and high resolution.

    CONS

    Mediocre contrast ratio.
Doesn't get bright enough to fight glare.

    • Thanks for this info. I was on the borderline purchasing one for myself and was hoping someone would comment with info like this.

      • I was going to post it last time the price dropped to $625 from $999. After a quick Google search it appears to go on sale often and found the info on the panel.

    • That vs the new Dell:

      https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/acer-nitro-xv34…

Very easy to see which is superior. Dell is cheaper too. Kogan would be using a lower grade of the same panel, with even worse results.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-s3422dwg

    • The Acer is listed as 250 cd/m² whereas the specs for the Kogan one says 350 cd/m² or 400 on HDR.

    • I think this is a great value if IPS is your main concern (brighter, higher response time, better colour accuracy, no G-Sync flicker) instead of VA (darker blacks, cheaper you will get the curved version at the same price).

However, based on my experience of owning a Kogan 34" 144hz which was based on a generic Samsung panel monitor (EXACTLY the same as Nixeus nx-edg34s) the software support is limited. Menu navigation was annoying, PBP implementation was poor, no Windows software support to change the monitor settings, etc. The Xiaomi with similar spec had better software support.

If you are coming from a premium monitor brand, you may be feeling this lack of software support…

  • +3

Flat for 34" ultrawide. simply no imo

    • If you want a curved IPS monitor you'll be spending several hundred dollars more.

    • You must not like spreadsheets.

  • +4

Dell S3422DWG @ $550 when on sale (usually once per month) is a far, far better option than anything Kogan. I would say it is probably the best value 34" Ultrawide option on the market.

Yes it is VA but I would prefer a good VA over a low-grade IPS.

    • That is not usb-c too. This can be a perfect work monitor

      • USB-C uses DisplayPort to deliver video.

Get the cheaper, better panel, then get an adaptor.

        • You won’t charge the laptop with the same, or provide USB port support. It’s not even close to being an equal substitute.

  • -5

    3 x HDMI 2.0 not even 2.1.

    • +4

Why do you need more than 18Gbps this isn't 4K.

      • -1

Some of us need it just to get g-sync over hdmi working.

  • How's the usb c work here? Is it a single cable to power the monitor? Or is it a cable to provide power to the laptop (for example) and provide display at 144hz?

    • +1

latter. It wont do 144Hz though, pretty sure you need a DP for that.

  • Anyone have experience using a 34” alongside a 38”?

    • +5

They can't respond they're all at the chiropractor

      • I don’t get it?

        • Next to each other would pretty much be a situation where you have to move your neck to see what's on the side of each screen.

I personally wouldn't recommend it but I also have quite a shallow desk.

On top of each other would probably be cool.

    • +1

I was also thinking of putting my 32 inch monitor above a 34 inch wide-screen.
