I love these.. but the OEM labels are a bit pricey. I found some knock offs on eBay that work well

  • +1

Same price at officeworks as well

  • +3

Aldi has the dymo for $22

Every time I see these it reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Bart got a label maker and started to put “Property of Bart Simpson” labels on everything.

  • How much are refills?
How many labels in a refill?

Could be useful to label different sections of my wine racks for now.

Black is same price on Amazon too.

These are good. I have the ABC model but would recommend the QWERTY. Rather a slow and frustrating hunt-and-peck process on the ABC keyboard.

    • +3

Yeah, alphabetical order is tough. I haven’t done that since primary school.

    • Amazon doesn't have it, Big W is half an hour drive FML lol

    • +3

I came here to write this comment. I’ve had both and absolutely get the QWERTY model

    PROPERTY OF BART SIMPSON

  • +1

why does this look like a mobile phone from the 90s. Are they too lazy to come up with a new model?

    • +4

      Cheaper here and has reviews.

      • Nope. Not cheaper

        • +1

Huh? Just double checked - from what I see, it's $52.99 for the printer in the link from foodlady and $34.39 in the link I gave.

          • @shagaroo: yes you are right dont know why someone neg you

          • @shagaroo: @Foodlady's link says $15.99 for me, so not cheaper on your link.

            • +1

@Bozman: $15.99 is for just the paper - no printer.

      Thanks. Bought one!!!

    • +3

Thanks, used eBay as there was a $10 voucher for using AfterPay that I needed to use!

      • same here. For $13 delivered is a true bargain

      • +1

I forgot AFTERPAY10 is still kicking around! Well done scoring a nice bargain!

I redeemed my AFTERPAY10 code months ago, which is probably why my eBay account only showed PLUSJAN5.

  • Does this support other languages like Japanese or Chinese?

    • Yes, the one which has the kanji keyboard

  • Just bought one, thanks OP.

  • +4

So what is the ongoing cost for this? How much for refill and print catridge? How often do you find you need to replace it?

    • +3

Ongoing cost: batteries and label tape

How much for refill: It doesn't use ink, 2x4m for $12 and comes in different colours and material (plastic or paper)

Replacement: the unit itself? Until it breaks. Replacing the cartridge? How long is a piece of string? Depends on your consumption….

  • Thanks OP - Was actually chatting about getting one of these yesterday. Managed to get it for $13 delivered from Ebay (Had a unique code for $10 off next ebay plus order)

looks like one of them old Motorola phones

What can I do with this one? I bought one just because its cheap

    • +18

Print out “LABELLER” and stick it on the labeller, thus completing the circle.

21.85 with eBay plus on eBay shop

    Can these use ironable labels?
    (edit) found it https://www.bigw.com.au/product/dymo-letratag-labeller-iron-…

  • +1

Does it come with one print cartridge included? Or I need to buy separately?

    • +3

The back of the box says it contains "1 white paper label cassette 1/2" x 13" (12mm x 4m)"

  • +2

Can I play Doom on it ?

  • I would highly recommend avoiding these proprietary things and pony up for these.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p233452…

The labels are dirt cheap, they print super fast, you NEVER need ink.
You can save templates and what have you.

They are, I admit a very different product but the more traditional label makers in this bargain are SO EXPENSIVE for the ribbons. In the very least if you buy one of the ribbon ones, get one with USB support for PC typing up of the labels. Rather than that tiny KB

The 450 is incredible though, helps me stay organised.

    • Doesn’t printed text disappear with time on these?

      • I mean it fades in the sun after like 4 years or something but with 1c labels vs $55 a metre ribbons, I'll print a new label!

(I'm exaggerating the costs, but they are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to operate)

  • Guys, can the font size be adjusted? I have a wall switch that goes to multiple lights so I want to label each switch.

Would this be suitable for that?

    • +1

I would strongly suspect it has at least 3 different sized fonts and then bold / not bold too.

However just find the same model but with the USB hole in the top so you can at least type them up on the damn PC- using those little keyboards blows.

    • +1

Yes, it has adjustable font sizes (5 different sizes), it's very versatile. Can fit labels into tiny spaces if you trim the label afterwards with scissors.

[Update] I printed out a 2 line demo:

  • What is the battery life on these like and can you plug in an adapter to use mains power? My last one of these, I think Brother brand, chewed through batteries at an incredible rate and would just eat batteries while sitting in the drawer idle.

    • +1

I've used them and found them to be very lite on batteries TBH.

You're on OzB, I have like I dunno 20+ AA batteries all NIMH now and re-charge them out of habit once a month - always got batteries on the go.

      • +1

I have an old label printer which will not work with rechargeables. Only normal batteries.

      • Can concur, the LetraTag lasts ages on my Eneloops. No worries about battery life at all.

    • +1

I would prefer it plugged into the wall. I don't see much benefit using batteries if you're printing labels around the house.

edit: OMG, just checked my old label printer and it has a connection for a power adapter. Now to go through my old adapters!!! :)

      • Yeah that's my preference too. I often do big batches of jams, pickles etc and will print a ton at once. Plugging in for that isn't hard. My previous one didn't even have a connector for external power.

  • +1

Finally buying one! To do my spice jars.

  • +1

which one is better ? this one or brother p touch? disregard the pricing

i can easily find the generic label tape on aliexpress for ptouch, any colour, including gold

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/brother-p-…

    • This is $4 better at the moment.

    • +1

really happy i put off buying the Dymo, this brother one looks nicer, and has cheaper refills.

      thanks

  • don't gift this to anyone, they'll regift it

  • Does anyone have any photos of text printed on two lines?

And does anyone know if there's any black tape with white text?

    • +1

The Dymo LetraTag doesn't do 2 lines, it's single line only — I don't know how you'd possibly fit two lines onto such narrow ribbon tape anyway.

[edit] actually, just did a search and you're right, it can do 2 lines — I learnt something new today!
      https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/A1TTx8lEg6L…

I just printed out a 2 line test, here you go:
      https://imgur.com/a/HMLhRSu

The font is definitely vertically compressed when in 2 line mode, it's not normally squished like that.

Have never seen any black tape with white text, no.

  • how are these on battery life? i have a brother p touch and it drains batteries like no tomorrow.

  • +1

This post sent me down a huge rabbit hole of label printers, USB ones, ones with keypads, ones with proprietary batteries, ones with AA batteries.

Bluetooth printing, PC connections, old MicroUSB cables, it's all a nightmare.

Best Brother one looks like it's fully wireless, with proprietary battery, bluetooth printing with app and wildly expensive.

    • Thank you for doing the hard work for me

Which brother one you looking at?

      • I'm not! The best one was $500!

I feel like 'the cube' series is handy cause you can use phone but the proprietary batter turns me off.
D600 might be a goer but no wireless support.

Also the $500 cube with bluetooth, it works on phone, not sure if it works on PC too, if it does, I'd pay like $200 for it, not $500 (!?!)

        • +3

That $23 label maker is looking like fine value now

          • @YLD1: Haha so true. I mean, do you really need bluetooth/wireless printing? How often are you printing and how long are your labels lol, doubt you'd save $577 worth of your time :)

          • @YLD1: Yeah pretty much full circle man.

  • For those who haven't bit the bullet yet.. 15% cashback now live:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/677227

    • Based on that URL you'd get the 450 for only $85 - which is a steal.

  • Is the tape waterproof (for use on kids water bottle or lunch box, etc.)? Would it survive the dishwasher?

    • +1

They are waterproof-ish but the heat/water of the dishwasher eventually gets them. It doesn't help that we have a lousy dishwasher that has to be run on the "dirtiest" setting in order to properly clean dishes. The printing fades and the label peels off.

I am always reprinting labels for kids food containers. They last a month or so.

I would love to hear any suggestions for a better labeller.

    • +1

After a bit of reading the Brother TZe labels are better for this purpose. You would need to buy a Brother label maker like the PT-H110.

I did see that Dymo make strong adhesive labels so I would be curious to see how they go. They work in a different Dymo label maker to this one though.
