Ryobi 18V ONE+ Precision Rotary Tool Kit (2ah battery) $79 @ Bunnings

950

UPDATE 2: the link on the Bunnings site is dead, but it still appears as $79 on the powerpass app. (I/N:0319595)

I was looking at this deal yesterday and took a quick look at this when I went into Bunnings (Tuggeranong) and saw they had heaps in stock, but decided I didn't really need it.

However, this morning I was looking a the link again and saw that it's now $79!
The skin only is still listed as $99, as is this kit on the Ryobi website.

Weirdly, it no longer appears in search results, and when I look at the link it says "This item is no longer available to buy online or in-store." yet when I click "Choose another store" below that, it lists all the nearby stores as having it in stock.

I tried it in another browser, and from another internet connection just to be sure, and it's the same everywhere.

Got my Dad to check the item in the Powerpass app, and it shows up as in-stock, so not sure what's going on with the website.

I have not yet gone into Bunnings to check the price, but I'll update here when I do. I suspect the other packs in the display I saw yesterday with this new type of battery (one was a light?) might also be discounted, but I can't tell if they don't appear in the search results!

I was after another battery and was thinking this might not be the worst way to get one. (doesn't touch the previous deals on the 4ah packs though)

UPDATE: Bought it at Bunnings Tuggeranong for $79. There was no price tag on the shelf, but it scanned without issue!

Also saw they had the newer Ryobi 18v 4mh twin packs in stock. They were $199 (normal price) but also not on their website, so I'll put this all down to some gremlins in Bunnings website.

Also worth noting that this kit comes with the newer version of the 2ah battery with the battery level indicator! (the older 2ah batteries in some kits don't have the indicator)

This item is no longer available to buy online or in-store.

    • Yep same.
      Not available for delivery either.

    • +5

Did you try what the OP suggested in the post? it worked for me, my two local stores are showing stock that way

when I look at the link it says "This item is no longer available to buy online or in-store." yet when I click "Choose another store" below that, it lists all the nearby stores as having it in stock.

      • Yes, Which brings up that message.

      • +1

I have found this to be happening with quite a few items on the Bunnings site lately I just checked this and it said no stock at Scoresby but when I went check other stores it listed Scoresby as one of the stores with stock 🙂

      • Yes it then shows as in stock but won't let me buy it.
Now I really know it's playing hard to get.

    • +1

That is indeed what I said in the post.
Click "Choose another store" and you can see stock levels.

  • +1

Great timing, I need a new charger & was going to get a cheap kit to get a battery too… might get this if it's available.

  • +2

It's funny, I had the same issue with the Shoplight yesterday. None showing in stock at any local (WA) store but when I walked in to one they had plenty.

    Bunnings website issues?

  • +1

B@gger, I bought this kit from Tuggeranong 2 weeks back for $99.

At least I sold the charger which I didn't want for $25.

    Thems the breaks.

    • +1

Isn't the standard response on ozbargain to double down and buy this on special?

Then perhaps turn up to a Bunnings with the new item and the poor receipt…

      • +1

Nah, not really bothered. Not interested in doing the wrong thing for a few bucks.

  • +1

Do you know if the kit comes with the different heads? I can't tell from the image or googling.

    • +1
      • that's the tool only option. the tool + battery kit says accessories not included and has no image of accessories

        • +8

The person you're replying to mentioned in another comment that they bought this kit last week, so they'd know!

However, I opened the box early just for you!
          https://i.imgur.com/toih7Tf.jpg

Seems to match what's in the Skin/Tool Only version!

          • +1

@BrotherEstapol: that's obviously my bad for believing the description. i'll actually buy one of these then i guess :)

            • +1

@Atomic117: This is correct, the kit comes with the accessories in the link I posted.

    • The Tool + Battery kit has no image of heads/accessories, and description says "On-board storage to keep accessories together (accessories not included)"

The Tool only does have images of heads/accessories, and says nothing about accessories not included.

Someone whose purchased may be able to confirm further

      • +2

ignore this. the description lies and others have confirmed you get the accessories

      • +4

I just got one. There is a small bag of accessories - a couple of polishing pads, a small amount of [I think] polishing compound, 4 sanding rolls with the holder, a 90 degree wire brush and 3 metal rods with differing tips, which look like they might be used for etching. There's also the mini spanner and, finally, an orange dome-shaped stone. It sounds like a lot, but it isn't.

  • Can I use a 18V drill instead of this rotary tool?

    • +8

      For drilling? yeah

      • Thanks :-)
Can you recommend a set of accessories for this precision tool?

          • @revheadgl: Thanks

          • +1

@revheadgl: Would accessories work across different brands? Eg ozito, ryobi, dremel

Dremel seems to have its own EZ lock mechanism but I wonder if it still fits

            • +2

@bheart: All the 1/8 accessories work across the board. Dremel, Milwaukee, Ryobi etc.

There are some things you cannot fit to this one above, eg the saw and router attachments due to them fitting on a threaded section under a removeable collar which this does not have.

But anything with a 1/8 shank will work in all of them.

              • @revheadgl: Thanks so much for the info!

                • +2

@bheart: No worries. I just gave the Ryobi one shown here here a bit of a run up. I have a Milwaukee M12 rotary tool and I would say it is about !/2 as grunty. Which is to be expected as the Milwaukee has a motor that is way bigger.

I have used a corded Dremel and a 10.8v Dremel and in my opinion only, the Milwaukee is about as powerfull as the 240v Dremel. The 10.8v Dremel is pretty poor in comparison.

I would say the Ryobi is somewhere in between the middle, power wise, compared to the 10.8v Dremel and the Milwaukee.

This is just my opinion based on a quick run up, no proper testing or comparisons, so take it with a grain of salt, lol.

                  I think its worth buying.

                • @bheart: Should also add, that the Milwaukee vibrates like a mofo. Both mine and my brothers were terrible. The Ryobi is very smooth and I would say aimed at finer work.

  • You can use my PowerPass anytime son

  • +1

There are four more at Bunnings Edwardstown (SA). On the shelf only, no display model.

    Scans in at $79.

  • +2

Anyone have feedback on how this compares to the cordless dremel (8220)?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Dremel-Cordless-Lithium-Rotary-var…

    • I don't have one myself (yet), but I have only heard recommendations from owners regarding the Dremel 8220, even when compared to its cheaper corded version. Looking at the design of the Ryobi, it does not appear to be a like for like comparison anyhow. I haven't seen the 8220 come up on special.

My heart skipped a beat here "but decided I didn't really need it."

    and then started again "However"

    • +1

I know exactly how you feel!

    • +1

Ha you'll be please to know that I just grabbed one! I'm glad I didn't get it yesterday, and instead aited 24hrs; saved $20!

      • +1

So we should wait till tomorrow is what you're saying?

  • +2

    Great find!
Bummer I don't need a battery or charger, just a skin.
Love to see a deal on soldering station …

    • that would be excellent

    • +3

I wouldn't buy a Ryobi soldering station. The cords are just PVC sleeved and not high temp silicone. So if you managed to touch the hot tip on the cord you melt right through it.

If you do a lot of soldering and don't really need a portable one I'd just get a Pace or JBC. I personally have JBC and it is far superior to any cheap soldering station.

Also if you want JBC like heating speed but on a budget look at the aixun stations from AliExpress

      • I bought a Hakko FX888D, and mate, it's a NICE station. Worth every cent! The cheaper stations are so frustrating to use, but the hakko is a dream!

      • I wouldn't expect it to be great, but handy to have while travelling away from power (the portability for fixing up 12v crap in the car/van is appealing)

        • Great, until you melt the cables, for portability buy a TS80P, literally runs off your powerbank.

Also TS80P and ryobi irons run on two different heating methods. Ryobi uses the more traditional heating element to transfer heat to the solder tip and is less efficient, while the TS80P has the heating element inside the tips in direct contact. 30w TS80P will outperform the 45w ryobi. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scvS2yeUH00 for an understanding.

There is also TS100 if you want higher wattage, but that uses a barrel plug for power and is designed to either run off RC Lipos or laptop DC power supplies.

I dont need the tool, so, if you're melb based, let's talk!

  • At least 5 in stock bunnings nunawading

    • Not anymore

      • Dang, my local cleaned out?
Have to be quick on ozbargain.

        • If you wantt he tool without the battery and charger, let me know

  • +3

Cheers OP. My Ozito rotary tool just died last week and I was on the lookout on another battery.

Jumped on the pushy and headed into the Hawthorn store and they had plenty. Both the kit and and skin only were marked as $99 but the kit scanned at $79 as per deal.

    • +1

I'm not sure what sort of 4D chess ryobi are playing at here with their pricing. Cannot even say it's clearing old battery stock, as it comes with the good 2ah version with the battery level indicator!

      • Probably a replacement model coming I'd say so they want to clear out the current stuff.

Or the trainee made a typo somewhere when doing data entry on the price and we're all winning :-)

  • Thanks đź‘Ť appreciate your post

  • can this only be used on a rotary took? or can younuse the battery on another tool? e.g drill

    • As long as your tool takes One+, then you can use it on any of the range. That being said, its only 2aH… so pretty low capacity.

Looks like there's plenty around if want to try and get one.

Not true for nunawading I got the last one

    • +1

Nice! How did you extract that info?

      • +7

I had a look at how their stock search tool worked on their website which actually shows the stock count and wrote a script to extract it.

        • +1

any tips on how to learn things like that? Or a point in the right direction?

          • +2

@catbarf: Python; for simple things like that.
You can learn the basics like that within a week or two.

        • -1

Man, if you wrote up a browser extension lists stock numbers for the item you're looking at, this site would love you!

Are you willing to share the script somewhere for others use?

        • If you're willing to share do DM it please!

    • Bigger, was about to go down to my local, till I saw your list.
That's saved me a trip…but I was hoping to pick one up

  • +1

No more at Windsor got the last one. Cheers op

  • ozito PxC can you make one of these please. already invested heavily in your range

  • refreshed and back up to $99? can't select other stores even though they show in stock? will try in person at Ballarat tomorrow

    • I think it's done, the link is now dead for me!

    • Just checked, and even though it's not on their site, it's still $79 in the PowerPass app, so if it's in stock you should be good!

  • Thanks just got one in store!
Are the accessories for these generic? Or do I have to buy ryobi branded ones?

  • Thanks been after one for a while great price.

  • Grabbed one in store - Glenorchy TAS. Thanks for posting!

  • Could you use this on your dogs nails?

  • Thanks op

  • went to Stafford earlier, saw heaps of the skin only (no battery) but none of the kits. Table above says there would be 7. I didn't ask, should have I guess…

    • +2

At my local, they had the skin in the tool section, but I found all of the kit stock on a display outside of the tool section with other Ryobi tools.

      • +2

yep, went back today and sent a young thing to search for it "it says you have seven in stock" and got it for $79 - still 6 left today…

        • Thanks @debo and the "young thing"! Had a second look this morning and found them randomly on the bottom shelf out the front of the tool shop away from all the other Ryobi stuff: labelled as $99, scanned at $79. Seemed to be a few left at Stafford, but bottom shelf and towards the back might be hard to find.

    • I did the same thing this afternoon and walked out without asking - I'll have to head back in tomorrow!

  • Does this use collet to hold the tool?

    • yes

  • I bought one at Rydalmere (Syd) yesterday afternoon. They only have the skin version in the tool section. The kit version is on a display outside and opposite the tool counter, they had plenty when I picked mine up. They had a couple of other Ryobi tools on the display and I got a price check, but only this one had the reduced price. Thanks OP!

  • How would this compare to the top of the line dremel (around $200)? Has anyone used both? I'll prob still go for the dremel.

  • 4 left at port Melbourne when I got mine, they’re on the aisle endcap listed as clearance for $79

  • Still heaps at West Ipswich, full kit with tools, @ $79

  • Confirming at the Brisbane Mt Gravatt Store (corner of Newnham and Wecker) has about 6 or so on a shelf. Shows $99 on tag but scans at $79. :-)

  • Got one. There were 6 left at North Geelong on display at front of the tools section at $99 but scans at $79.

  • +3

Thanks OP, got one today at Cannon Hill. They're not in the regular Ryobi section, theres a few display shelves on the left just as you enter the tool shop. Theres 5 or 6 tucked away in there, about halfway down

good stuff thanks OP really just wanted an extra battery so this was a good way to gett a bottery and have a new toy/rotary tool as a bonus - now i need to figure uses for that! - I do prefer the smaller batteries e.g. the 2.0's are lighter and easier to handle than a 5.0 on the angle grinder for example and you can keep them on charge

Tx OP, got one last night in Altona (Millers Junction). Awesome price with battery and charger. I love the unit - it is super quiet, compact in size that can be held like a pen and it has a good speed range.

  • I picked one up from the Virginia QLD store yesterday. Wasn’t in the normal area, but was with some other Ryobi tools directly across.

  • There are still about 8 of these left at Vermont South (Vic) in the tools area near the counter.

  • Three left in stock at the Warrnambool Vic store
