  • Does anyone know if you can shut the water off using the flow control on the tap fitting? (Not the spray head)

    • +2

      yes you can

      • +5

Posting up here so others can see it as well.

You can use NEWIN2022 for $10 off your order, which may work out to be a better deal than the 5% off depending on how much you're spending.

    • +4

You can. May I also suggest you buy a couple extra control levers too(50c each in accessories section). Mine has gotten brittle and snapped, but they are easily replaced. The 2 reels I bought 3 years ago are still going strong. they are worth the money imo.

  • +4

I can vouch for the quality of these reels. I bought a 20m reel about 6 months ago after years of using no names Bunnings brands. The reel always retracts cleanly, lot of different spray settings on the head, the fittings feel hard wearing and sturdy.

    • +3

yea they are awesome, especially the high flow versions
Not really a fan of the hose link connectors but works fine with an adaptor

    • They used to be good, my reel for 4 years ago is perfect. BUT I purchased a new hoselink reel last december and the quality has dived. Note that you do not get the metal spray gun with it. The one you do get has the on/off regulated by your thumb and is not comfortable or easy to use unlike the trigger.
The hose return isn't as smooth unlike my older model and requires unrolling a few times to get the hose fully in. This has been the case with water in and also released from the hose.

The new grey fittings seemed to leak when used with my older green fittings. This meant that I had to change the hose fittings to put on my old trigger hose on the new reel

I am so disappointed with their terrible dive in quality. A very regretful purchase after loving my old hoselink reel so much.

Expensive pieces of rubber (and plastic)!

    • Can you find a similar (quality) product cheaper?

  • How do these compare to the Holmans from Bunnings. I had the Holman fail 3 times in 2 years.

    • +3

They're pretty good. Been using them for almost 10 years now.

I had one fail shortly after warranty and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.

      • Holman or Bunnings? Did you contact manufacturer directluy??

    • I had the Holmans for bout 6yrs before selling house.. was still going strong and never let me down.

    • +1

I can vouch for Hoselink product quality and service.
I've been using the the hose reel for over 5 years and have had no issue.

    • +1

Holman rubbish. Had 3 in a row, returned them all, they leaked after short time. Had the HOSELINK 30m reel now for around 8 years, it is amazing.
The accessories ie the spray nozzles and shut-off valves aren't perfect, they have all failed on me eventually.

      • +1

Can they be swapped with other brand nozzles? Or are they not a universal fitting?

        • +2

They are a different fitting ( one that basically never leaks) but they sell an adaptor so you can connect anything to it.
          https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/click-on-adapter-set?va…
Handy to have a couple of these if you have old sprinklers or spray nozzles laying around.

        • +2

Hoselink is its own system, with its own proprietary twist-on connectors, which they believe form a better seal. It's like going iPhone and needing Lightning connectors. However, you can get a $7.90 "click-on adapter" which lets you use most other brands of nozzles and attachments.

    • +2

Will never buy another Holman product again

    • Apples and oranges. Gardena would be a more fair comparison.

      • GArdena better?

  • Just bought their hose a few weeks back, must say the product itself is pretty good and so far no leaks or kinks in the hose.

Just don't expect great customer service as they're slow af to send out orders and they don't keep you updated on the progress (when the order was shipped or if there's any missing items that will come later etc)

    • I'd disagree there. I ordered just before christmas and got the order very quickly. One of the sprinklers was DOA and they replaced it immediately, and I had it within a week.

  • +2

This or Gardena? I know the Gardena is more expensive.

    • Gardena connectors are really great. Not sure on hoses as I am in the Holman camp so far so good at 2 years for 30m ones. $120 from Bunners.

    • I've had 3 Pope hose reels all rust out due to their terrible design with use of metal support/brace parts to link the plastic sides. I'd never buy a hose reel again that incorporated structural pieces made out of thin cheap steel/metal unless that steel were stainless.

I've not used hoselink before - but i'd search productreview.xxx posts because realistically the only people that post on such sites are those disgruntled!

    • I would like to know also as i'm leaning towards Gardena

    • +1

I always consider Gardena to be top quality. Even plastic connectors that have been in the sun for a couple of decades are still going strong.
I gave up on cheap connectors & accessories, as they all seemed to leak or break after a year or so.
That said, I don't have any Hoselink so can't compare. But OzBargainers always seem to have positive feedback for them, so that's a good sign.

    • +1

I have a 30m Gardena, absolute unit but I might be biased due to being German. Nonetheless quality built, very strong retracting but my wife struggles, because the pull is quite firm.

  • I would say that even though the initial shipping was poorly communicated the after sales service has been amazing. We've had 2 things break in 2 years and both times they have replaced both parts for free, shipped quickly.

    • That doesn't sound great in terms of the quality of the product though.

Can I ask what two things broke?

  • Wipe the hose free of dirt while retracting and you'll be fine even with the cheap ones.

  • Warranty is only 2 years.

    • yeah. If it's away from direct sunlight they will last longer I think.

      • +1

This is an important thing tk think about. Old man has an old hoselink, maybe for like 7-8 years and it gets the western sun every afternoon and still holds up

        • Damn that's impressive! I will need 5 years to top that with my holman.

  • Have 3, worth the money

  • +1

Excellent price, thank you OP! been waiting for this price for nearly a year now!!!

    • Same here. Except the model I was after already sold out. Damn!

    • Same here. Finally! Thanks OP.

  • I just moved house and one of the first garden tasks I set myself was to install a 30m Hoselink reel. I’m very happy with my past experience and so far all is going well with the new gear.
I purchased in December and it arrived before Christmas… faster than the delivery prediction. Support was quick to respond with shipping enquiries during this busy time.

Hi-Flow 25m Retractable Hose Reel - Charcoal already sold out.

FFS! Missed out again. When did the sale start exactly?

    • It was out of stock when I checked it at about 10.30 this morning

      • Thanks, mate.
I might wait for their next shipment, and hopefully they don't end the sale early.

    • Any benefit for hiflow when you don’t have water pressure issues ?

      • +2

Yes. I found even with good water pressure, the 30m's flow wasn't all that great.
After realising 25m was enough for me I replaced with the 25m hi-flow. Much better. Also saves time due to the higher flow.

Moved the 30m to the front of the house where the pressure is slightly higher (though both locations seemed strong to me) and its fine there so YMMV, but I think the hi-flow is just a safer way to go.

        • Agreed. Much better pressure with the 25m hiflow.

        • Moved the 30m to the front of the house where the pressure is slightly higher

Would the Hi-Flow 25m be better than the 20m for a large rainwater tank with an electric pump? Do you think there would be a noticeable difference in pressure with the Hi-Flow 25m model?

    • Back in stock now and still on sale

  • Bugger, was waiting for this, the Hoselink Boxing Day sale that never came. Ended up getting impatient and buying the Aldi one on the weekend.

  • My first reel is a pope, bought 2 years ago, still works fine but after buying a hoselink, the difference in quality is huge. The pope one feels like it could break at any time if you are not gentle whereas the hoselink is a tank. Going for my third one now.

  • These hoses are expensive but worth the money. Don't buy those cheap hose reels from bunnings

  • My Aldi that was about $59 still going strong at least 3 years later.

    • Meaning that you could probably be ahead even if you had to replace em 4 more times.

  • We just got a 25 m Gardenia from Costco for $199 seems really strong much better quality hose than the Holman that we saw at Bunnings. Didn't get the hose link because I wasn't impressed with having to buy an adaptor to use connections.

    • I was eyeing the $199 Gardena from Costco too! That looked like really good quality.

But I just hit the bullet and bought the hozelink.. Hoping it's the same quality, if not better!

      • +1

I've bought both Hozelock and Gardena from Costco. IIRC the Hozelock 20m was about $80 on sale 5+ years ago and is is still going strong. The Gardena one I paid about $125 for a 15m about 2 years ago, also going strong. Both brands are massively better than the typical Bunnings brands for the price.

I also have one from Repco which is 5+ years old and was only about $50. It gets a lot of direct sun and looks terrible but still marches on, even though the quality is several notches below the other two.

    • what is the diameter of the hose? hi-flow equivalent?

  • Thanks bought two 🤙🏽

  • Thank OP! Been looking forwards to organising my garden. Also grateful for everyone sharing comment and experience.

  • How about compare with hozelock?

Having wasted too much money on junk ones from Bunnings, I have ordered the above & will give it a go.
Not cheap, but IF it has the quality of their other workshop hoses, I'll be happy & will regard the price I've paid a bargain!

    • No price on that website. How much did you buy it for, and where did you buy it from?

      • About $380 at Total Tools.

Retracta hose reels will last 20 years.

        • Retracta hose reels will last 20 years.

Thanks for the response. Any thoughts on how Hoselink compares against Retracta (which boasts premium German engineered Main Spring)?

  • Tossing up between 25m hi flow vs 30m standard; house has standard water pressure…any suggestions?

Any tips on which accessories to buy as first timer, no other hose accessories from other brands either. Thanks!

  • -2

If you are serious about quality hose reels, try these. Will last you 30 years, maybe the only hose reel you'll need this lifetime.

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/135219-retracta-20m-blue-premi…

    • $631 :O

    • Fully Serviceable

How much would it cost to service the unit? Does it need to be done annually for warranty reasons?

It costs an eye watering $631. Instead, I could buy 3x 20m Hoselink with plenty of change to spare.
Even if Retracta is of superior build quality, you are pretty much entering non-bargain territory here.

      Will last you 30 years

Probably. However, the warranty is only 5 years.

      • "I bought a Macnaught Retractor Water Hose Reel in November 1988 for my home. It was still fully operational when I sold the home in 2013. ie 24 years later…. the plastic case still strong and the mechanism still perfect. Never had to service it.

They are much cheaper in the long run"
        https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/macnaught-retracta…

"I bought my first "Retracta" reel 25 years ago never replaced a part or had a problem! Yesterday the coil spring broke. I never had a problem retracting the hose or the hose leaking, even after I inadvertently ran over it"

        https://www.amazon.com/Macnaught-Retracta-AW100-Retractable-…

    • That guy should start his own garden hose company, and it should be called: "Car & Bike Hose Reels".

  • +1

their hose reels are great no problems after 6 year only fading of case
in the sun but can get cover.i support Australian business.

  • Water control lever just broke on mine after 5 years without a single issue. New lever costs 50c incl free shipping and 2 min to replace. Quality product with proper after sales support.

  • +1

Looks like can not add anything into cart..

  • I think their website has been ozbargained…

  • Working fine here.

  • I'm not really a handyman, how easy or hard would these hoses be to install or attach to a wall?
This unknown is hold me back from the purchase

    • Looks pretty straight forward: https://www.hoselink.com.au/pages/how-to-videos

      • Looks pretty straight forward

Indeed, as long as you have the right set of tools.

        Missing from my toolkit:
        • Rotary hammer drill
        • Spirit level

Is there a place I could borrow them from? Otherwise, I will just a post a handyman job on hipages.

Charcoal 25m Hi-flow back in stock. Just ordered one with 5% code. Thanks OP

    • We have monument coloured COLORBOND® steel fencing all around, and the charcoal models will blend right in.

Only thing I am worried about is the heat. During hot summer days, you can stand right next to the fence, and feel the heat right on your back.
I hope these hose reel enclosures are built using UV rated plastic.

I have found their covers were not UV rated. Even the white cover started ripping after a year or so.

  • Mine arrived broken. Invisible fault until I was about to turn it on, but the main join of the lead house to the reel was just shorn off. Hoping they can provide a solution quickly

  • -1

New stock available- 25m high pressure

  • Gotta say I'm massively disappointed in the pressure. the restrictions though those joins are tiny. less than 10mm I reckon. Kinda pointless having a12mm hose with a 10mm restriction in the connector…

Going to measure the flow later today, but feel's like it could be 25-50% reduction compared to my old standard gardena non retractable hose.

    • How long is your hose? 20m of hose is going to be responsible for a decent pressure drop. That's why I've gone for the high-flow hose. Mains is awesome pressure at my place, tank water less so (1hp/800W auto pump), so I went for high-flow. BTW, chat was helpful, their advice was to go for the high-flow even if your pressure is good, because 20-30 of hose is a lot of hose to flow through.

  • BTW, Charcoal 25m high-flow is back in stock. I think a few people were waiting on this one.

    • I am surprised it hasn't sold out by now. I jumped on it as soon as I received the email alert on Friday afternoon.

  • With the Universal Tap Connector it includes a size reducer so you can fit it onto 20mm taps instead of the usual 15mm variety.

    https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/universal-tap-connector

How the damn hell do you unscrew that size reducer?

Should I apply some WD-40 to loosen it up a bit? I almost twisted my palm trying to unscrew the top off.
