  the ones you've linked are silicone with a waffle pad for sauce holding not the boar bristle. Good for BBQ sauce and other thick sauces, crap for pastry work.

    That was my thought too when I read that it’s heatproof. Correct me if I’m wrong but a good bristle brush for pastry shouldn’t be heatproof?

    Any pastry brush suggestions? I bake quite often and have collected some pretty good stuff over the years but a good pastry brush is missing from my tool belt. I’ve had a few silicone ones and they’re not great at all.

      The Oxo bristle brush is here (https://www.amazon.com.au/OXO-Grips-2-Inch-Pastry-Brush/dp/B…) but stupid expensive. Unlike something like a vegetable peeler you tend to only need to use them for a few seconds, so the advantage of having the comfy "good grips" handle is kinda negligible. I have something like this (https://www.myer.com.au/p/appetito-pastry-brush-38mm or https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/807241) and basically hand wash it almost immediately after use & they last for many years - just toss them out when/if they start to lose bristles. I know a lot of people who prefer to use the round rather than flat brushes (eg https://www.davidjones.com/Product/23609886/Pastry-Brush) but although they look great I find they can push down on delicate pastry. The Winco (eg https://www.amazon.com.au/Winco-Pastry-Basting-Brush-3-Inch/…) has good reviews FWIW, although I haven't used one.

      When I need to brush anything that's less delicate, like glazing hams or even putting egg wash on pies I tend to use a silicon brush - heat proof, and can throw straight into the dishwasher.         The Mint one from woolies looks pretty good so I might give that a go. I have some other mint stuff that is quite good.

        I agree about a round brush pushing pastry down. Because of its shape you have to use more bristles to apply the same amount of egg wash of liquid.

        I actually have the ikea silicone one! It’s good for a silicone one
