180

"Keep your meals kool with the Evakool Koolmate 55L"

Looks to be an ok price for a fridge/freezer combo.

Seems like a pretty good discount at Repco. Reviews are a bit mixed but 2 year warranty might provide some confidence!

Sadly you won't find stock in QLD. Also once you factor in $ for an insulated cover (if wanted) and 240v power supply. You'll find it's getting close to the price range of the new Kings fridges with a secop compressor.

Its worth just being wary of Kings fridges, yes they have a secop compressor but thats not really what fails on them, its the temp sensors and readout that tends to fail, at an anecdotally large rate from what I have seen on their fan facebook page, seconded by lots of complaints about customer service when trying to return products.

Got this from the last SCA sale. Only use it occasionally and it hasn't missed a beat. First time I used it the lid got pressurised and stuck but I wedged it open with a screwdriver. It's a known thing. The rubber seal comes out occasionally which is annoying but no other issues.
Evakool had half price covers for black Friday or click frenzy or one of those. And 240v converter from jaycar was pretty reasonable (50 bucks maybe?)

    • The fact the seal is that good is awesome. Sweet physics.

  • Just went down the store to pick one up. Ended up paying $349!

    • Hi mate was it in store for $349?

      • Rep! Picked it up from Dundas repco instore.

    In catalogue for 349

Pick up a 10amp 240v adaptor for $20 on eBay.

Worth noting that if you run the main compartment as a freezer, then the secondary compartment stays at fridge temperature (not specifically the design of it, but just stating from experience)

  • Could you price match with BCF or Supercheap?

Hopefully they have improved the design. I bought one last year and ended up returning it because the secondary compartment doesn't cool. It will remain 10-15 degrees above the main compartment leaving you with a 35L fridge and a 20L useless space not even cool enough to keep fruit and veggies for a long time.

If you have a look at Koolmates website they state that the small section isn't refridgerated at all. Pretty sure it dosnt take that section into account for the 55L capacity yet can't confirm as they don't state internal dimensions. Have a look at the 80L which is almost identical external dims regarding compartment size.

      • It’s definitely included in the 55L though which is a bit misleading marketing

    • Yeah the second compartment isn't really supposed to cool like the primary one. It's for things like butter that stays cool but doesn't harden.

    • Yeh we use it for cheese, butter etc.. There is a slide between the main compartment and that one that needs to be open to allow the cool air to flow into it.

  • Bought this a few weeks ago and really happy with it. I know the kings is better when you consider it includes the 12V adapter and sleeve, but I got the adaptor from Jaycar and will probably make my own sleeve when I have some time.

    • You would be crazy to buy that over a evakool. Evakool have been around a long time and make quality units with the best insulation in the game. I believe they use danfoss compressors so really nothing not to like. I have a waeco, Dometic and Engel. If I was in the market for another I'd pick this up in a heartbeat.

      • This unit has there own brand compressor from the tech specs listed on their website. I think the newer (far more expensive) range has the danfoss compressor.
