Decent price for a card that performs as good as a 3090.

Thanks mate
performs as good as 3090 in mining or gaming?
Gaming
Not as good mining (around $8/day before power vs $10 on a 3090)
Almost as good gaming.
Reasonable price seeing 3060Ti at $1100-$1200 (current price) giving $3-$3.5 a day.
Thinking to get either:
3080Ti $2349
3080 $1999
or 3070Ti $1500ish
Any suggestion?
eVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FTW3 Ultra 8GB GDDR6X $1499 @ PLE. I'm rocking this. Beast of a card and runs very cool.
EVGA, and specifically FTW3, is amazing.
But only 8gb, so will get bottle necked by textures in the coming few years. For longevity I think 12gb+ is recommended now.
8gb is ridiculous
good ROI if starts mining now?
miners are the worst
@[Deactivated]: I know lots of gamers and no miners
@Shaddolf: this is true i quit gaming after discovering mining lol
@abctoz: yes, smart gamers also mine, and got their money back after 6 months and continue mining and to expand their rig and so on.
gpu mine during the day whilst u work, then u game at night, and continue mining again whilst u sleep. best of both worlds.
@[Deactivated]: i still game but a filthy casual now, i quit mining after lucking in to some capital to focus on trading/investing, which is way more interesting tbh
the old guard are still in denial crypto might become a thing, this is the genius of its design
the stigma against miners will remain, the curious will find a way to profit, hell all my GPUs since 2014 have been ex-mining at a heavy discount, a godsend
@abctoz: Mined on gtx1070 from 5 years back bought at $550, made $1200, and sold for $600 last month.
And spent 1700 hours on Civ 5 & 6 on it.
@[Deactivated]: we must be brothers, mined on 1070, also playing civ5 now
made 10x on the 2017 run, got weak hands and sold for $420 in 2018, if I knew eth was going to be a thing cold have easily made another 10x, hindsight 20/20
@abctoz: Civ 5 is still the best, 1400 hours on it, only 300 hours on Civ 6.
@Nereosis: People who buy GPUs just to mine are the worst.
@Sleepycat3: Why?
@Nereosis: Someone bought 9 of these today: https://www.ebay.com.au/bin/purchaseHistory?item=18506262961…
@[Deactivated]: Crazy miners desperate for profits!
@kaikor: I feel sorry for the w@nker who bought 9 of 3080ti yesterday, his investment already down 10% overnight and he had to wait more than a year to break even if the btc holds up that long.
I mine while gaming. The only game where I can't mine at the same time is FS2020 or if I am running VR. Otherwise, I just leave it running in the background.
@Sleepycat3: I cannot mine whilst playing Cyberpunk 2077 lol.
It depends on what you plan to play with it.
I play as t-rex, on NH.
3060 ti for $1000 ish.
Wish at least 3070's were 3060 prices :(
Just wondering if you gave 3060tis a thought? It’s much closer in performance to a 3070 than the naming suggests, you are looking at only a 10-15% performance downgrade, Compared to 3060 vs 3060ti where it can be more than 30%.
hey yep am aware of the performance differences, it just doesn't hit quite the sweet spot i'd want it to as a 3070 would for my use case
ah fair enough, good luck with the hunt!
Would recommend staying away from Gigabyte cards for RTX30 series specifically. Rubbish quality compared to Asus and EVGA.
VRAM thermal pads are known to be rubbish. Can't imagine how they'd fare with even more G6X than the 3080.
Asus and Gigabyte have decided to get in on the act and price-gouge all buyers.
Gigabyte AMD coolers on anything other than the Master series, are also hot & noisy rubbish compared to MSI or XFX.
It's as if they designed them for Nvidia cards, but then slapped them on to AMD units.
Remember when this much money would buy you a top end gaming PC with the best video card available?
And to think we complained about RAM prices in the early 00's
I remember an rog strix 1080 costing only $1.3k on release whereas my metabox 1060 laptop bought roughly around the same time cost 2 grand.
Well I can't get more than $500 for that laptop now yet those 1080s haven't depreciated as much still around $600-$700 on marketplace
My 1080 was $850 and I purchased it soon after release.
This price is more than two budget-but-very-capable gaming PCs, at any time in the last decade or so outside the current crazy shortage.
There were 3060tis available for $785 on their ebay store this morning :)
Before they upped price because of the voucher?
I snagged the last one before it sold out. Let's see if I actually get it. And yes pre-voucher price went from. $923.50 to $1,398 once it sold out.
did you get it? $785 for 3060ti?
For only a few sheckles more I would go for the eVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
https://www.ple.com.au/Products/646833/eVGA-GeForce-RTX-3080…
even if you had the extra sheckles, it's out of stock with no ETA
what happened to all the 3090s? There are so little stock compared to the 3080ti. Where there are stock, you are looking at 4k~
Why buy 3090 when you can soon buy 3090ti?
Ah, they are probably saving all the 3090 silicon for the 3090ti then.
Third party vendors will probably try and charge us 5k for the extra 2.4% cuda cores on the 3090ti
whats good for mining ETH ?
Shovel.
Seems discussion here ppl still prefer RTX rather than AMD?
At the same price (competing models) yes but AMD has definitely pulled closer… If market wasnt so messed up and AMD undercut nvidia then it'd be a different story…
This is a deal for an RTX 3080ti.
Were you hoping for some AMD fanbois to come along to try and preach about how great AMD GPUs are or something?
As someone who wants an AMD GPU (linux user), (ignoring price) nvidia is just generally a better choice for the layman: Better RT performance, more features (mainly DLSS), longer driver support, CUDA/AI stuff (not useful for the layman admittedly).
Apparently can flash with Dell 3090 bios to get a 110MH/s now
This isn't true. There may be a select few Dell 3080Ti cards that this can be done with. There is still no proof of it. I have a Dell 3080Ti card and it cannot be done to mine.
lucky me, i bought my RX 5700 XT for $630 two years ago, three months back i straight swapped it for a RX 6700 XT, the latter which retailed around $1100 at that time and today its $1300. current price is a joke.
I wish people would stop paying these crazy prices. Control your urges people! I think the 4000 series will be out before these drop in price
Haven't we seen this before with phones?
The latest flagship Apple phone 1800 bucks?
When people pay, companies have little reason to reduce pricing.
Anyone know how they pack the GPUs for shipping?
Was just reading about DOA HDDs in the other thread because they sent them in an envelope. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/675714
My packaging for 3080 z trio wasn't the best, it was just in a cardboard box with no extra protection.
Anybody know what kind of warranty you get if you buy a graphics card from harristechnology through Ebay?
Should be same a purchasing from their bricks & mortar store.
Nope… they refuse to deal with you via their tech support.. / phone support
Have to go through their ebay messaging system..
Complete pain in the ass.. they treat you like a second class citizen.. just because you bought it via their Ebay site..
I will generally only buy stuff from HT, if its signficantly cheaper than elsewhere..
if its a sake of a couple of dollars.. strongly advice you to buy elsewhere..
I wasted.. enough hours of my life..when they have sent out wrong items… and fail to deliver, what they have promise…
eventually it works itself out.. but not after lots and lots of phones calls and wasted time..
They seem to get it right around 70-80% of the time only..
If I deifnitely need something.. I buy elsewhere.. not worth the hassles..
Very true, and we are talking about over $2k GPUs here, imagine they just sent them via a padded envelope and DOA !!! I will not take that risk 100%
