Just in case anyone is interested. Seems to be SMR.
I was thinking the same. HDD with 5400rpm is usually SMR.
Yep, this drive is infected with shingles!
I got the 12TB WD Elements for $330 the other day. How does this compare to that? I'm only using it for backups and to access files occasionally (not daily).
The WD Elements have Red Plus drives inside which are better than this one.
The Red Plus is more comparable to the Seagate IronWolf which is available at $255 for 8TB
Any links showing the 8tb WD Elements having the Red Plus drives inside if them?

@FireRunner: Thanks mine was bought in September 2020 so wondering if that matters 👍
Where from?
I posted that deal a few days ago
God bless you FireRunner.
This or the iron wolf?
Depends if you need the speed. This will be fine for a backup drive, but if you're actually working off it, get the IronWolf
I'd rather the Ironwolf as they come with 5 year warranty and are CMR. These ones only come with 2 year and SMR. They are a decent price though!
Yeap, limited cause of smr, 8tb still allot of space for documentaries but one you've filled it up in a day or 2 pretty stuffed if you copy/delete/move files regularly :(
IronWolf is only a 3 yr+2 weeks warranty from the date of manufacture, IronWolf Pro (much more expensive) is a 5 yr. Learnt this the hard way when my 4TB IronWolf failed after 3 years
Strange as the non pro shows warranty as:
Five-year limited product warranty protection plan and three year Rescue Data Recovery Services included.
How does this compare, performance wise, to a WD Green (circa 2013)?
Just an unexpected experience with SMR drives - I believe Seagate has tracks (CMR) between SMR zones set aside to buffer/mitigate random read/writes that usually cause SMR to slow down to a crawl. I was backing to an external 8Tb seagate drive a while back and after some time the drive basically stopped writing data for periods of 20 seconds - I could hear the heads inside making a lot of noise as it was doing garbage collection/tidying up I guess.
I also notice on 4TB drives after a bit of writing you can hear the drive head moving back and forth as the drive tidies up (flush the CMR tracks probably).
anything for a ps4 ? 2.5 deal?
Don't buy this drive unless you are doing read only ops, it is as slow as molasses.
I'm guessing can stack with this so another $30 off for Woolworths members
Yeah, you can stack coupons with gift cards
Wow that's a great price drop,..
How long is the eBay plus code PLUSTJA valid for?
Drop down box on listings says it expires today
For Coles members
Great price. Bought a few. Thank you.
Looks like the Chia crazy is over.
I have not seen $20/TB in over 12 months.
