    Out of date?

Best before 22/03/2022 on the boxes I purchased.

Mars Confectionery used to have a guarantee to take back any out of date product. I'm guessing there are grey imports.

        • +2

Nope they're Australian. The guarantee is even on the back of each one individually.

      • +1

This is a good deal in that case.

    Which shiploads was this?

  • +9

Well, there's goes my Dad Bod… hello Emperial Walrus!

    • +1

      LOL!

  • +2

    What is shiploads though

    • +9

It's what came after Chickenfeed (RIP) - Tasmanians would understand. Basically a chain of discount variety stores.

      • +6

You missed a golden opportunity to link to one of Chickenfeed’s adverts and confuse the hell out of the mainlanders lol

I should also mention that Shiploads was established in 2010 by the Sypkes family, who also established Purity Supermarkets (a chain of supermarkets in southern Tasmania bought out by Woolworths in 1982 and renamed to Woolworths in 2000) and Chickenfeed.

        • +7

After Jan Cameron decided to offshore head office to Sydney the former execs formed Shiploads in conjunction with the Sypkes family who still owned all the physical stores. A bit of controversy there.

I'm glad you linked the adverts, because I have copies of their "ad parodies" played at the corporate Christmas parties pre-Cameron. If you haven't seen them then you're in for a treat!

@Clear: Ahhh yes, Jan Cameron… I think it’s safe to say she was generating a bit of controversy in Tasmania around that time, particularly after helping to buy out a timber mill and attempting to turn it into an eco-resort.

Oh dear me, I haven’t seen those parodies before, but I’m glad someone saved them! I got a good chuckle from them, especially after enduring heaps of Chickenfeed TV ads whilst I was growing up lol

            • +2

@WookieMonster: She tends to cause trouble wherever she goes.

The voice and the background theme is forever engrained in my mind with how many times those ads played on TV everyday. Chickenfeed is so nostalgic despite it being pretty crap thinking back at what they stocked. Someone sent me these videos years ago. Unsure if they have more.

@Clear: Ahhh they had the best canned tuna ever! I'd buy boxes of the stuff — Greenseas in sweet chili sauce.
It's much better than the round tin versions at ColesWorths. This was 120g IIRC rectangular with curved corners.
Pop just that on some noodles for lunch…

Dinner and breakfast sorted for the kids thanks op

Never thought I would be jealous of Tasmania.

6 months ago I'd say Tassie is great because it's COVID free. Can't say that now with 400 new cases a day 😜

    • +2

The poor bastards have had it rough the last couple of years with housing, feel sorry for them.

  • +6

Bout to visit Tassie - this is now my highest priority.

    • +2

If you’re flying into Hobart Airport, there’s a Shiploads not far from the airport in Cambridge Park, so you won’t have far to travel!

      • +2

Chartering Galaxy Starlifter now for a quick visit to Shiploads

We are just hanging around Hobart CBD for a few days - no hire car

        • +2

Ahh fair enough, hire cars are impossible to find at the moment anyway.

Your best bet is the Sandy Bay store, which is not far from the CBD and is on the way to the casino.

      • +2

I’ve been to that one. It’s so big they needed TWO shopfronts! (One is for general & food items, the other is largely furniture and large sports goods.)

If you’re travelling to Launceston the Shiploads store is near the river front. Just ask for directions to K-Mart and it’s on the opposite side of the roundabout.

    These taste ridiculously good
