  • link to product, in the main post, would be handy.

    Not in the description

  • Note that previous tongs were 30cm as opposed the the 23cm listed here.

  • +1

Pop containers are pretty much the same price as Amazon (which ships free).

  • Are these tongs long lasting? The tongs I buy from aldi and the like all fall apart after a few months of use.

    • +2

Yep, best in the biz. Don't get the rubber tip version though, they're kinda annoying because the tips can slip off.

      • Only the black tip versions are on sale unfortunately.

        • Oh whoops, the picture has the steel tips so I assumed they were the ones on sale. Sorry mate. Yeah, I wouldn't get them tbh. I've got a pair of both and the steel tips are far better.

      • The Black tip version dishwasher safe?

        • I've never put mine in the dishwasher but it's silicone so I'd imagine so. Top shelf would be the go.

        • The tongs aren’t dishwasher safe if they have an aluminium rivet at the pivot point.
Dishwashers and aluminium are not good friends.

          • -2

@subydooby: Yep the rivets in mine always fall apart. The aldi ones are only a couple of bucks so if they all have the same weakness, then I suppose they're just cheap disposable items, and cheaper is better.

I’ve been using 2 pairs of oxo good grips for 5-10 years
Assuming there’s not been a drop in quality they’re great -(and yep dishwasher everytime)

      • Thanks!

    • They seem to melt very easily.

  • -1

    Is that a DEAL?

  • +1

Doesn't seem like a good deal. Eg this 2 pack is available on Amazon for $9.30 and isn't even the best price it has been. Not exactly the same being silicone tipped but I don't see that as a negative?

    • +6

      Nor everyone keen on silicon.
      Unnecessary neg vote.

      • Nor everyone keen on silicon.

Why not? Genuine question as I purposely only get silicone cos I have a porcelain coated grill so better non-scratch for me.

        • Can't scrape debris off the grill

    • Thanks trying them out

      9 inch ≠ 23 inch bro.

      • +3

        9 inch ≈ 23cm.. bro

    • Got these delivered today and they are excellent quality. Tips of the tongs have metal running right through them and covered in good quality silicone. Very happy spending $9.30 on the pair.

  • +1

whats the rubber like on this thing? is it dishwasher safe? my woolworth one with a silicon tip melted and falling apart after a few times in the dishwasher.

    • Top loaded dishwashing doesn't seem to be an issue :)

Some good gear at good prices for eBay plus members.

It took me ages to find in Australia a turner with steel core and silicone coating.

  • Wow, the poultry shears have been marked up heavily! $80! These are $40 everywhere else otherwise I would have bought another pair.

  • +14

Quick question, before using them, do you have to perform 2 - 3 test clicks before you use them or do they work fine without the test?

    • +3

      absolutely

im sure its written in the warranty conditions somewhere

      • +1

Damn! I'm looking for ones that don't require the test clicks. I've worn out too many tongs too quickly.

You should see how many drills I've gone through before I get to use them!

Bought 2 of these back in 2019 when Good Guys had a clearance. Still going hard and I only clean them in the dishwasher. Great deal even for this regular price…

  • These have the classic aluminium rivet hinge so will eventually wear out here especially if you put them in the dishwasher. Anyone know of tongs that don’t have this?

Really feels like planned obsolescence when every other part is resilient. Clearly a tong conspiracy.

    • The best tongs I bought were $4 long tongs from Korean shop - just U-shaped metal thing without any hinge. They have some teeth and when they are about 2 cm open both sides are parallel so it is easy to hold long things like sausage.
They have nothing to fail and they are surprisingly convenient to use.

      SAVANNAH SAV-1014 Premium Tongs 18/8, 24cm, Stainless Steel https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07BVMQ6NF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_g…

Bought these recently when discounted to $10.
Has big stainless steel mushrooms on both sides which don’t degrade in the dishwasher! Am expecting good things from them.

      • Go to a commercial kitchen shop $8-12 and no spring. Colour coordinated and they last forever.

    • +1

I have replaced some broken rivets with stainless bolts and nuts.

  • In nearly every op-shop for 50 cents. Just sayin'…

  • -1

Meh. Their discounted prices are the same as Amazon’s normal prices.

  • Apple divider and corer! I use this daily for the kiddos, had it for three years and still working well. How hard is it to slice an apple? It's not hard but when you gotta do multiples of it per day or quickly prepare couple of lunches it is the best.

    • +2

Quicker if you give the kids the Apple unsliced - also doesn’t go brown, don’t lose the vitamins when you cut it, save time cutting it, save on plastic, and if they forget to eat it they can eat it for afternoon tea as it’s still fresh

  • The metal tongs in the first link, nil available.

    Against the rules REEEEEEEEE

  • The avocado slicer is one of my favourite kitchen gadgets. Same $10 through Amazon and free delivery with prime.

  • what is the reason the silicone part of the OXO tongs melts over time?
