Good price for a decent gen 3 drive. DRAM-less but when it comes to loading video games the difference in loading times is in the millisecond's compared to drives like the 970 EVO with DRAM.

Very slow fulfilment. Like… Ebay slow.

      • That too but for me, I can't apply promotional Amazon credit as it isn't Amazon AU.

    Gen3.

Real world you won't notice the drop, but just be aware that this is older and slower tech. For an extra $70 you can more than double your transfer speeds.

Except the majority of devices out there dont support gen4 drives…Theres a reason 2.5inch SSDs are still so common and upvoted everytime when they are posted on ozbargain. The reality is as much as hardware vendors like to push out newer tech and advertise them as all 'revolutionizing' and all that, the general public will still be using older tech because every new thing out here cost so much and in most cases the 'old' hardware will be more than enough for 95%+ of the population,

    • It's designed with a larger dynamic SLC cache and essentially a SN550 replacement. Not impressed with WD's practice lately. Cripple SN550 latest batch with el cheapo NAND, then release SN570 (which feels more like the older, pre-crippled SN550, but the actual NAND used is still not quite as fast as the old SN550, except tweak the dynamic SLC cache so benchmark software cannot hit the actual NAND speed easily).

  • I got my ram in 11 days from the UK .

For $135 you can get a 1tb Kingston KC2500 which has faster read/write speeds, has a DRAM cache and also has self encryption which is neat.

Its a good drive but I prefer to stick with the WD Reds. Better performance and far longer warranty. They go on sale every now and then.

    • R wd reds better than samsung?

      • Short answer: no

Long answer: depends on the drivers intended purpose.

      • If you care a lot about sustained write, especially once the SLC cache is exhausted, then WD Red SN700 appears to be great:

Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB is missing. Post SLC cache, for older batch, it was close to 1700MB/s, newer batch is half that. However, newer batch does have a more impressive SLC cache and much larger dynamic turbo write. Personally, I feel Samsung SSD warranty is better.

Note: those quoted figures are for 1TB SSDs and they are NOT the same for smaller SSDs (smaller ones have inferior figures).

WD Red SN700 is expensive. WD Red SN500 is SATA, not NVMe.
