Expiry is in May 2022, I bought one to taste as I haven't tried it before.

It's at the back sitting on top of the meat fridge opposite the bread. Heaps left.

What does what it is what have to do with what it looks like?

for some people this dish is part of their national identity …

doesn’t look like vomit ….no corn or carrots …..

i have tried it and it’s not bad …..if you like daal ….i find most daals too runny and prefer canned things like hienz chunky meals if you needed to pay full price of $2.50 , at 5c is a steal.

Fair enough. Probably the fault of the (Coles) photographer then for making it look that way.

        • Australian cuisine

You misspelled "lamb chops", uhm, mate.

Lol. I can’t imagine living such a tiny life. This comment is like something out of a 1970s sitcom, and it was being mocked back them.
Stick to the chops and 3 veg.

        • What, meat and potatoes?

    • Some poop looks like chocolate, would you eat it?

Do you know what that picture reminds me of?

    • -1

      the matrix 4

      • I think it's meant to be food but there was an obvious glitch in the Matrix.

    • reminds you of a trip to india ?

Can just imagine the checkout chick saying That'll be 5 cents daal.

    • Lol

    • This comment has more likes than the deal haha

    • Not ashamed to admit I didn't get it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
      please help explaining :)

Daal sounds just like "darl" (short for darling) which is a possible old-style casual and friendly address by checkout staff.

Real dhal (not daal) is YummY !! And Yes, it is lentil soup AND there are many types of lentils one can use. Staple Hindu diet for centuries..

    • What about Roald Dhal and BFG?

  • +1

That's one disgusting looking pic. No wonder why they couldn't sell it. Normal dhal is awesome.

It looks like very oily and unhealthy, like most other Indian food.

  • Love it, but hate the farts that come afterwards

  • ooof

amazingly its ok to shit on indian culture here

    • It's not ok anywhere…

Err, yeah that photo on the Coles product doesn't look promising. I cook this at home sometimes using this recipe. Not difficult and good nutritional value including protein and fibre.

  • Has anyone tried it? This has popped up on clearance a few times for specific stores over the last couple months if memory serves unless it was another similar product?
Even if it doesn't look appealing if it tastes ok I'm in at 5c or even 50c it's good to have cheap options in the cupboard. Just need some half decent naan to dip in it I reckon lol.

  • Looks good to me, i love dahl, have tried a few other packet dahl from the supermarket, normally pretty decent for $2 or so, chuck it on some rice and it's a satisfying reasonably healthy little meal.

  • I wonder if they'll price-match the free carrots from Coles Asquith NSW

  • Good to see the racist comments sorting itself out!

  • Clemton Park is a bit far for me but that's a bargain.

    This stuff tastes good

  • It's very average for dhal. Their palak paneer (spinach and paneer cheese) is decent in case that's on sale. To be honest dhal is one of the easiest things to make and takes hardly any time. Plenty of receipes out there. Goes well with tomatoes and onions (cut up and salted), pickled onions, garlic dip (try it, it's pretty good with dhal). A great accompaniment is indian pickles (not Pataks please, try to find a ethnic grocer where everything is just better, try mango pickle or carrot pickle if a newbie, half a teaspoon should be enough).

  • Wonder if any left anywhere. Tried few stores near by - none have stock.
