          • @BRYCELICIOUS: How can this be unless you have had this type of machine before? It takes me many attempts just to get the grinding right.

            • @spasto: Could be coming from a pod machine or instant coffee lol. When I got my bes870 I was coming from a pod machine and was blown away by the first coffee I made with aldi beans

            • @spasto: ordered mine at 12.45pm, picked up at 4pm and set up within an hour lol.. but yes coming from a Sunbeam coffee machine so it was quite straightforward.

  • Bugger, spent $100 more purchasing it yesterday!

  • so….I bought one Friday with ebay 5%off….does anyone know whether I can claim the difference/refund and but again etc?

    • Ditto

      • tried to buy this with idea to cancel other but now out of stock….oh well still happy

    • I did the same. Unfortunately doesn't look it

Doesn't work on my click and collect. Says quantity unavailable despite it's still showing In Stock in store.

    • Happened to me too. Change to a different store and it worked

      • Unfortunately Darwin has only 1 Good Guy (singular).

The next one is about 3000km away.

TGG was happy to match Amazon's $239 for the smart grinder when picking up this.

Excellent deal for this year and probably the best price for the next 2 but will come back down after that.. to anyone starting off on the home espresso cafe quality journey, this is an excellent deal but a bambino plus from ggc may currently be a better value for the next 2 years till you learn dosing, tamping, pressure, temperature, grind size, yield ratios, origin of the beans. This thing is awesome but if you start driving you would not buy a Ferrari even if you could, or ride a 1000 cc sports bike even if you could afford it .. I started out with this unit 4 years back.. no one ever told me to save my money and buy something else till you learn stuff .. hence this post. It is an excellent machine but if you are starting off and think you will be able to make cafe quality espressos and save yourself some money because everyone says it is a brilliant machine at a great price point ..don't buy this.. it is not meant for starting off a new hobby on.

And everyone who is in the know obviously knows this is a great deal so no point in commenting on that

    • Really appreciate your insights. I'd love this machine but based on what you've raised, think that a bambino plus and smart grinder from TGG comm for ~$580 all up is the best way to get started on the journey.

      • How much is the bambino plus by itself with tgg comm? Sorry I'm waiting for my account to be created haha any idea when the sale will end? Thanks!

        • Its been $361 for a while, Grinder $216, TGG pretty good, normally open account next working day.

          • @huntabargain: Oh fantastic! Thanks so much :D 361 is a good price, I'll probably get it :)

  • Anyone had any issues returning unused items to TGG?

    • +1

Have not personally, but would think should be ok with receipt.

  • This is a great deal.
Unfortunately I jumped at the deal for $934 from GG ebay in November, so I'll be set hopefully for the time being.
Currently working ok with my original Smart Grinder Pro, but I'm waiting for the DF64 Grinder with DLC burrs to arrive on the 29th.

  • Does this make a significantly better coffee than the BES870BSS? That's what ive had for the past year but lately the coffee has been tasting very average and watery.

    • Generally better but not drastic - which beans are you using and when they were roasted and your puck prep routine generally counts the most.

      • Is it worth the upgrade? Just coles been lately thats probably big part of it

        • Beans.

          Aldi's are ok

        • It may still be worth the upgrade (I have it and had em7000 previously) but would highly highly recommend buying coffee with a roast date and aiming to drink it between 7 and 21 days post roast and look at some YouTube videos re puck prep - a cheap wdt tool can work wonders with subpar grinders. Lots of ozbargain favourite roasters ship fast and roast fresh. Arjo is great when on sale.

        • Stale dark beans (anything bought in a supermarket) struggle to hold pressure and extract evenly. They also taste like bitter, burnt dirt IMO. Buy from a local roaster.

    • This video has a good comparison between the models. You may not necessarily get the better coffee, it's more about convenience (pull-wait-froth vs pull/froth at the same time).

If you feel your coffee quality degrades, other factors (clean machine, new beans, etc) will likely to have a stronger effect on it.

  • I just don’t have time to make my own coffee, I don’t care too much about taste, can I simply get fully automatic machine instead?

    • Seriously it takes less than 2 minutes surely you can do that?

      • I have to wash all those things..

    • I have the bes920 and think it's worth it - breville Oracle when in sale is as far in auto direction as I would ever go.

      • Can you rephrase? I don’t understand a single word you are saying

        • Breville Oracle BES980 is the more automated big brother if this the BES920. It features auto tamp and auto steam so you literally just have transfer the portafilter to the group head. It's about 1600 on sale.

          • +1

@blues99: Okay. Do they clean it too? I don’t wanna deal with washing that thing

            • @Kawaii: It will prompt you to run backflush and decycle cycles based on number of shots and water hardness if that's what you mean.

            • @Kawaii: No coffee machine is going to be maintenance free.
An auto will still need cleaning. We had a fully auto at work, it got cleaned daily.

            • +1

@Kawaii: have you ever cleaned a full auto machine?

ill take wiping down the BDB over cleaning the intricate plastic parts of the Delonghi full auto machine i had any day

oh and the delonghi just never matched the BDB for its ability to quickly create 40ml of rich, textureful, nice tasting espresso

    • Breville Oracle could be the way to go for you then? Auto grind/tamp/froth, just press couple of buttons and its ready in 60 sec

    • BDB may not be the right choice for you. If you have the budget - get the Oracle. You still will need to clean it.

  • Wow I have a perfectly fine dual boiler, 12 months old. Considering buying a second in case it ever packs it in.

  • Is this eligible for the bonus offer from Breville?

From what i can see, you have to buy the bes920 + the grinder to be eligible.

    Not too sure though.

    • +1

No, the T&C's pdf specifically states it needs to be the Dynamic Duo set of both. Shame, it used to be included in these promos.

      • +1

Thanks mate - Just saw that as well.
The Dynamic Duo is ricidulously expensive.

        For the same things:
        If you buy separately, it will be $809 + $239 = $1,048.
If you buy the Duo, it will be at least $1,540.

Basically, you will be paying the $500 extra for something claimed to be valued at $455.

        What a joke!

        • I calculated everything but the "Online Masterclass" in the bonus offer at about $320 value anyway, so still not worth it. Very strange that they don't bring the Dynamic Duo price closer to the individual prices.

          • +1

@Birdbrain: Amazon had the Dynamic Duo for $999 on Xmas Eve, was about too bite the bullet but then it went OOS while in my cart. Making it hard for me to pull the trigger on this deal, even though this is pretty good. If I could C&C, I would considering pulling the trigger, but now I'd have to settle on $35 shipping when TGG is just 5 mins away. Sitting on the fence right now, and probably going to regret again lol

            • @Bearboi: Ahh yep, I saw the amazon deal juuuust too late or would have grabbed it as well. At least the price seems to be heading in the right direction!

I bought this one yesterday at 5% off so missed the extra $45ish you save today but we could C&C to save on shipping. For some reason we couldn't C&C the grinder anywhere though, which was odd since we could on TGG actual website. Ebay funkiness!

  • Anyone know which NSW store has stock for Click & Collect? I tried a few post code, seem the $35 postage is the only option in NSW for now.

    • Tweed Heads

  • +1

Bought one last night. Paid $35 for shipping since there’s no stock at stores. It’s going to be long waiting to come….

    • Even though it showed in stock at a store nearby when I placed the order, I got a call this morning telling me they got no stock, asking me if I’d like a refund.

      • Nvm, it seems they are reluctant to sell it at this price.

Instead of accepting their words like “cannot locate any stock”, I went straight into the store where I chose to pick up and got my coffee machine.

  • How much hassle involved in cleaning compared to a percolator?

  • Seems Out of Stock now - "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available"

  • Bought two thanks OP.

  • Bought one. Thanks OP!

  • Been using mine for a few days - with breville grinder pro and some woolies Vittoria beans (yeah I know).

Initially had lots of issues that wasn't getting any pressure even at the finest grind setting of 1 (pressure would stay below 3 - resulting in watery pulls). Finally figured out that it still wasn't grinding fine enough. I opened the Grinder Pro and there is a way to adjust the burr setting. Moved it from 6 to 4 and now started getting pressure and some better shots.

Issue i'm having now is that on 1 cup I get good pressure (~9), on 2 cup I'm only getting about 5 - but I think that's probably to do with amount of bean i'm putting in and maybe tamp pressure. Will keep experimenting.

Also not getting too much crema but I think that's just because it's supermarket beans.

    • May be try to put more coffee into the double basket to increase pressure? You might get completely different result if you use freshly roasted coffee beans (crema and grind size), stale beans tend to require finer grind.
Edit: You probably can try the Aldi SO beans until you order fresher/better beans, as they normally are 2 weeks from roast date. Roast date is written backward.

      • Thanks i'll keep Aldi in mind.

Regarding more coffee - I could do that but I'm using the razor tool to make sure it has enough coffee - but yes perhaps for these older beans i'm going to need more coffee and a finer grind for 2 cup.

  • I've been trying to get my head around working with the DF64 Grinder, and now have massive respect for the SGP and how much easier and tidier it is to operate.

And cleaner. I have coffee grinds everywhere now.

DF64 is like a coffee particle spraying system for my kitchen bench.

SGP so much cleaner and simple to use. Everything just landed in the portafilter.

    • +1

You should watch James Hoffmann review on this grinder DF64 review Time 6:10min There are some ways to reduce the mess, ie spray beans before grinding and grind into dosing cup not direct in Portafilter.
