Good price for a popular baby monitor. I had my eye on this for a while but decided to go with the Uniden posted on a deal a few weeks back as it came with a monitor and remote access.

Note - this is the wall mounted version not the one with the stand.

  • We got this for our first kid and honestly I reckon it's awesome, but the price will be a dealbreaker for some. Other than the solid features I've found their customer service to be super responsive and they seem quite interested in finding out what new features customers want, which can only be a good thing for a company.

  • Have been researching baby monitor options for our first baby due in April.
The general consensus is to get one that has a monitor rather than just through mobile. The mobile versions drain your phone and the alerts are more reliable.
Can anyone share their experiences and recommendations?
At the moment looking at the Vtech RM7764HD.

    • +1

      We own the RM5764HD.

It is quite good but have a few comments:
      - When playing lullaby music from the camera, it will set of the camera's own sound alerts. This only sounds on the monitor so isn't that annoying but seems like an oversight. You can manually turn this sound alerts, but then would need to reenable.
      - Stock for the expansion camera (if you decide to get it later) seems very hard to get at the moment. It is only available from Baby Bunting also in Australia.

      • Thanks @crosscade. Good points there. Cheers

  • First time parent with kid due on March. We've got a small 2 bedroom single story house. Do we need a baby monitor really? I figure they'll be sleeping in our room and the house is small enough that we'll hear them crying if we are in another room. But I have no idea?

    • +1

its just peace of mind, if they are sleeping in your room and you're sitting on the couch, having it on next to you gives a level of comfort.

    • I definitely think it is worth it. You can see if your baby has gone to sleep or are just there quietly. Allows you to easily check on them without disturbing them, especially at night when you don't want to be turning on a light.

You also can take a monitor with you if you go outside to put washing out, put out the bins or whatever else and you wouldn't hear the baby necessarily inside.

  • Got the Kogan Smarter Home Smart Baby Monitor for $39. Does the job.

  • as it came with a monitor and remote access.

So you can keep an eye on your baby while you are out for dinner somewhere?

    • Ha! Nah - monitors don’t usually extend signal to both wings of the chateau.

  • I own one of these since birth of our 7 month old (1st) and it's really good - because we are paranoid

    Pros
    - app has ability to play background audio effectively making it a standard baby monitor with more range
    - good image quality
    - night vision is really good. Frequently bub spits dummy in middle of night. Check camera before entering room to find dummy. Can zoom in on image while he is sleeping to check breathing
    - if you have good wifi more range then standard baby monitor
    - sleep analytics useful to see when bub wakes during night
    - notification history is useful to check actions
    - app automatically takes photos which is useful to sus what's gone on overnight as well as 24hrs of playback
    - cry alerts can set sensitivity

    Cons:
    - face cover sensitivity is a bit high. E.g. he will shake head in sleep and you will get a alert. You can turn this off when they start rolling
    - a lot of alerts. You can turn stuff off but yea
    - Occasionally loose connectivity with server. This has happened twice in 7 months
    - can't really travel with it.
    - can only set one admin. Other users can access but less rights. Suggest making primary user admin

I would recommend purchase. At in-laws now for Christmas and miss it!!!
