The highly rated monitor hits another all time low. G-Sync And Freesync compatible.

Personally own this and it's great! Has one of the best response times and input lag in its class for those that care about that (Review)

Although I love the thought of this, hard to justify when the S3422DWG can be bought for less than half.

Don't get me wrong, that's a great price, but I'd much rather take this IPS screen over VA any day.

Normally me too, but I have a LG IPS and the S3422DWG, and the difference is not significant colour wise.

For this price I'd rather have 2 S3422DWGs

Fantastic monitor had mine for 1 & 1/2 years but if i had to choose today i'd go for the ASUS ROG Strix XG349C for $1299 for it's 180hz refresh rate.

Is it better to pay a bit more and get the Dell Alienware AW3821DW?

    • +2

Had both, sold the lg one and kept the dell. Colors arguable the same or lg was a bit better but the backlight of the dell sold me. Dell has sick exterior if youre going for the aesthetics.

    • Alienware is 38 inch and you can generally wait for a deal where it's at $1500. Personally depends on whether you want to pay a bit more for a bigger screen.

Same price also available at Centre Com, Computer Alliance, MWave and Scorptec. In case you prefer their service/want to pickup.

RTings' testing doesn't capture true IPS motion response time properly: it's slower. VA panels have also caught up, and the Dell for $549 is outstanding value compared to this.

What RTings does show at least is some of the motion pursuit capture: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/lg-34gn850-b-vs…

You can see very clearly that there is very little difference between the two, beyond the inherent issues with each technology: IPS has a powdered smearing (light leaking through from backpanel, aka slow return to zero), while the VA has mild dark smearing (slow leaving zero).

I think VA is now in a spot where this is a really acceptable trade-off, especially for almost 60% less outlay. OLED (currently with BFI) and TN remain the best for motion, and TN's negatives are overstated unless you need colour accurate work or you game in a recliner.
