Usual shout out for Varta AA Batteries, $9.92 for a 30 Pack at Bunnings, made in Germany.

Agree. These never let me down. Never had one leak either. Can't say the same for other brands like Duracell or Energizer

      • Agree. I bought the Aldi ones a while ago in a 48 pack and have thrown half out because they leak. Going back to Varta for sure.

Ive had the opposite experience with Varta's.
Had both AA and AAA cells that died and leaked prematurely.
In all those cases, I had put two fresh cells in a device, and one would just die and leak.
The other cell tested to be near 100% in a cell tester.
Even had 2 that reversed Polarity when they died, that was rather interesting.

I also had a pair of Aldi cells that leaked, and glued themselves to the bottom of a drawer !

    • Thanks, wasn't aware of these, will give a go

      Why not Eneloops?

      • There are some certain applications which specify you should only use 1.5V batteries. Rechargeable batteries are usually only 1.2V.

        • +1

When I charge up my Eneloops fully they are 1.45v+

Also its a bit of a myth re voltage vs alkaline as explained here:

          http://eznec.com/Amateur/1.5_vs_1.2_Volt_Batteries.pdf

          The conclusions are that:
          1. You can use “1.2 volt” NiMH cells in devices which are properly designed to use “1.5 volt” alkaline cells.
          2. At moderate to high current drains, NiMH cells will work much better in these devices than alkaline cells, delivering both a higher voltage during discharge and greater total energy.
          3. The above conclusions apply exactly the same to multiple cell devices as to single cell devices.

      • An example would be a high-drain device that might need four AA batteries (4 x 1.5 volts) so you get a 6 volt supply. The circuitry might run properly until the voltage goes down to (say) 4.5 volts. If you use Eneloops in that same device you have 4.8 volts (4 x 1.2 volts) so the device will only run a short time until it reaches the lower limit. You could always use five Eneloops in a battery holder (if you can find one that supports five) which would give 6 volts.

        • Yeah I have VR controllers and with rechargeables the low voltage means they give the 'Low Battery' straight away.. which is both annoying and disables ruble.

        • Yep, I only have one device that doesn't like NiMH batteries and that is a Snap-on Techwrench (digital torque wrench). It uses 3xAA batteries and if you use Eneloops, you get the low battery warning instantly and then auto power off.

Dislike single use batteries otherwise, but oh well.

    • I'm still using Varta batteries from a couple of years back when Bunnings had them for half their regular price. That was a sweet deal.

  • What do they do?

    • +1

      For self defense.
Put in a sock and swing at attackers head.

Or boringly use them to power stuff after someone steals all your eneloops.

  • yep its the same price for the 14 pack AAA too. but you will be flat out trying to find either packs now all out of stock.

    • Both are showing in stock in all the stores around me near Chadstone Vic. Sydney stores have stock too.

      • yeah I a in Queensland been to my local woolworths found the last one at one of them the rest didn't have them. Also the website doesn't always show the right stock levels I have many teams went to a Big W and found stock of an item that says out of stock on the website.

    • They've been half price for about a week now, with a stand at my local Woolies right near the self serve checkouts. Has been heap of stock

  • Duracell same price in COLES , if not into Energizer which i found out has really bad life.

    • I'm an energizer convert after having two lots of duracell leak (AA & 9V). Don't get me started on varta, they leak/ooze like sieves.

For those who might have kids, pets or love collecting plush toys, you can pair this sale price with Energizer's cross promo for the upcoming Sing 2 movie. If you buy 2 Energizer products and visit their promo site, you can claim a Free Sing 2 Plush toy.

  • Anyone else notice Coles is only selling Duracell and their own brand batteries now?

    • Yes, yes I have. WW for the win.
They still sell energizer cables, which I didn't even know they made.
