I think the travel industry is in total denial…

      just like the powers

Queensland COVID infections predicted to peak in March. Do I have any chance of being allowed to travel overseas if I book a trip in March?

    • +24

Don't think you'll have a problem going overseas. Going home will be the one to sweat.

  • +10

Hotels in Hawaii multiple factor more expensive than the return flights. Allow US$300+ per night

    • Same with car rental and parking if staying near Waikiki

My partner and I used Air BNB and an app similar for hiring cars (can't remember the name of the app) car probably wasn't the safest but did what we needed and we parked at the end of the main strip where there are some free overnight spots (we did day trips each day) but even getting a spot there was hard (pre covid) and sometimes confusing where you could and couldn't park, plenty of travel blogs explaining the spot.

International needs a mandatory +PCR test costs.

    • +4

PCR needs to be free or cheap to encourage people to travel.

      • +8

Why should we be encouraging Australians to travel and spend their money overseas? Why should Australian taxpayers subsidise overseas travel?

        • Because many Australians are migrants and have close family overseas.

        • Same reason we subsidise healthcare for those who choose to be unhealthy. We are one of the fattest countries in the world

          • -1

@belongsinforums: So apparently Australian taxpayers should subsidise the small minority of us who would rather holiday abroad.

Why stop at subsidising PCR tests? Why not cover all or part of the airfare as well? If I choose to party in Bali for Christmas, should I bill the ATO for planes, hotel and booze?

            • +3

@john71: Why not? As long as we are paying for ICU beds for those who are scared of needles, it's only fair

        • Because the PCR requirement is an impost by society.

As for implying we should be holidaying here, nice idea, I guess you haven't been paying attention the past 18 months.

        • +2

Why should Australian taxpayers subsidise overseas travel?

You can't argue with these people. In one breath they will tell you how shit the government is at everything, then in the next tell you that the government should fix all of their personal problems…

      • The only way this can happen if the airlines pay for it.

  • +3

    OK….so don't stay in Honolulu

  • +10

There is a mistake on the Perth flight - return flights aren't available until 2024.

    • +16

      There isn’t going to be a 2024

  • +15

Imagine getting one of these cheap return flights for two people.

Then pay $100 per person for PCR test in Aus.
Then pay $100 per person for PCR test in destination.

    Then on return:
Pay $100 per person for PCR test before departure.
Then pay $100 per person for PCR test in Aus.

And if anyone on flight has COVID, you get sent to a quarantine hotel at your cost for two weeks. $2800

    • +2

      Bargain!

    • +1

Well… what’s the purpose of all those saving during covid lockdown? Gotta find someplace to spend, right? Lol

    • +1

Wonder if travel insurance would cover hotel cost if this happened? Anyone know?

  • -6

No one should be flying anywhere.

The (profanity) ice shelf is about to drop into the ocean and sink all the pacific islands lol

  • +11

Its cheaper to book direct at Jetstar.com
I've just checked the first three links

    First link is $251.24

  • +4

FYI PCR in Vietnam is super cheap if that's a consideration for some; ~21aud at my local clinic.

Entry requirements are to be double vaxxed and should change from 1 week quarantine to 1 week self isolation from January. Looking like there will be no self isolation (at least for some areas) from March.

    • Do you have any links/references for this? I'm super interested, but can't find much information apart from a bunch of travels blogs which I don't put much faith in.

  • +2

    https://www.asgam.com/index.php/2021/12/15/vietnam-to-open-a…

You will find plenty of articles referencing opening in January however prior to that Quang Nam and Phu Quoc have been doing a trial phase for international tourists from October; provided it goes well, the plan was to use these areas as staging entry points (primarily Phu Quoc) for international tourists to beat around for a week before they could enter the mainland. This seems to have been superseded now seeing as they are allowing international flights for double vaxxed from January.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I live in one of the areas mentioned above and work within the industry so can give you actual insight. Rules change here week to week though as it is a fluid environment and likely to change

  • The last three flights I had booked with this airline were cancelled without warning, cat fight to get a refund, Never again.
