Looks to be same model as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643288 which I bought from. The 32GB RAM that mine came with was the decent faster timings, so no need to upgrade. I assume this model will be the same, but don't hold me to that.
Only difference being it is Windows 11. Ensure to go to https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/socket-fp5-mobile/am… and update the drivers to ensure there are no performance issues with Windows 11.

    I plug mine into my LG C1 OLED using hdmi and it takes full advantage of 120hz gsync thanks to the hdmi 2.1 port. You just need to make sure you use a hdmi certified 48gbps cable.

        @agalea101: You're game doing that with a laptop. I'm running some desktop GPU's for this and they run damn hot. Couple that with a small laptop chassis and you're not only risking the GPU, but you're risking all of the other component within the chassis (battery/cpu/motherboard/ssd).
        
        To recoup even a fraction of the costs you'd need to be running this laptop mining quite a lot…

        The other thing is, and you are right, but with good settings, the hashrate efficiency and heat is less than gaming.

        @Bargain Seeker: Hashrate efficiency through overclocking and underclocking, while it can reduce power draw and lower temps somewhat. Is still quite high on newer cards with higher bandwidth memory. Most temps measured on cards were related to GPU temps. ETH mining hammers the memory which in previous-generation cards wasn't really monitored or factored into it. With the new and far greater hashrates on the 30 series cards comes far greater temps from the memory modules and controllers.
        
        The memory junctions on the 3080's and above in particular constantly sit at 104 degrees plus on the desktop GPU's. I'd say these issues wouldn't be too dissimilar on the mobile GPU's either.

        @agalea101: I would ignore sghetti as it sounds like they don't know what they are doing mining wise. Mining on mobile 30 series cards it actually pretty decent.
        I finally replaced my work laptop with a 3070 model from Acer and it mines at 60c without issue and the 3080 and 3070 in my two family computers barely push past 58c when mining. If you have a good solution mining isn't an issue at all and it doesn't in most cases tax a card like gaming does.

        @agalea101: Yeah also the GPU temps on this Legion are quite good. Even gaming on AAA titles seeing 140W 100% GPU usage for hours… I don't think I've seen it go above 75c. I usually have GPU Overclocked via bios (Core +150 and VRAM +300) too.

        It's the VRAM and memory junction temperatures that are the most important in the newer cards. I haven't seen anyone spruiking below 70 degrees on a desktop 3080 without heavy mods or water cooling and ambient temperatures lower than what we normally get in Aus. So I'd love to see how you're managing less than 60 degrees on a home setup ;)
        
        For clarity, I'm not saying it's not worthwhile, everyone's situation and circumstances are different. I'm just warning that there will be significant temperatures involved in the process.

        i'm not sure why you would make a comment like that. sghetti pointed out that memory is where the issues lie and as most cards don't monitor that temperature nor do they typically throttle to prevent damage in these areas, these are the most susceptible to damage. This is particularly pertinent on a mobile GPU as the fan typically doesn't encompass that area and only covers the GPU itself

This is a brilliant laptop. Had it since earlier this year. The only issue is that if you are used to a keyboard which is in centered , then the offset keyboard on the Lenovo takes a while to get used to.

Unconfirmed for today but I priced one of these up through the EDU store for about $2300. Same specs but only 16GB of ram. If you watch Jarrod's tech video he suggests replacing the ram anyway as it's a bit slow.
So this might be the way to go for some of you.

    I just upgraded to 64gb. I know for some it's overkill, but it's helpful for premiere pro and lots of chrome and brave tabs open.
    Feed it more, it uses it.
    Way off topic, but my M1 Mac with 8gb is so throttled all the time with the low ram. It hurts productivity

  Definitely, the old model will only get cheaper with time-assuming you dont need a laptop this urgently.
  
  Firstly there is intel, the new intel 12th gen seems an even bigger step up from 10th to 11th gen, with e core support fixing one major problem of 11th gen vs zen3-battery life. As far as benchmarks go, the multicore performance for the h45 chips also far exceeded both zen3 ryzen 9 and 11th gen i9 chips.
  
  Ryzen is a bit of let down this coming CES, the zen3+ 6000 series will have slight improvements to architecture and mainly focusing on an upgrade for the igpu-a feature that can be mostly ignored on a gaming laptop. It will definitely be interesting to watch how they fare on a thin n light laptop though, since the low wattage zen3 apus are a beast this generation.
  
  The major performance update for ryzen laptops will probably come late 2022/early 2023 with zen3D mobile. But its a bit of a wait.

      12th gen mobile will be announced at this coming CES from 5-8th of January and production was already shipping to laptop makers three weeks back. Most probably we can expect the first batch to hit the shelfs somewhere around Feburary/March.
      
      As for zen3d timeframe that was just my guess, since we have not had any concrete evidence yet. All we know is that the desktop versions of zen3d will come early 2022.

      Thunderbolt is controlled by intel and co dev'd by apple, they allow it for amd desktop because there is much less use for thunderbolt on the desktop platform. Meanwhile its a feature that is crucial to some workload/use settings, namely egpu support and connectivity while ports are limited. They dont want to allow amd to set foot in this market. AMD is already the best at lower wattage x86 based laptops, letting amd have tb support on laptops is like giving away a core market that would otherwise traditionally have belong to intel and to a lesser extent apple.

  Its a gaming laptop so while reviews may get it down to 8-9 hours I say realistically with hybrid mode on you can get 6-7 hours with non-gaming/workload usage with hybrid mode on.
  
  It is indeed detrimental to performance but you really arent supposed to game on a gaming laptop on battery power to start with. And with MS office/web browsing taskes the hybrid mode have no impact on.

  I have this and battery life is pretty garbage especially for office use because as soon as you plug in an external monitor (i.e. projector/TV) it uses the dGPU.
  
  For using standalone it's not too bad, you just have to kill all the shitty Windows Store processes that are using the dGPU.
  
  You can trickle charge this off a 65W or greater USB-C charger, so I got a tiny Heymix GaN brick instead of the huge chungus 300W brick.

  I posted a bunch of things but looks like I broke a rule sorry.
  Basically keeping thermals in check can reduce the fans going max. A cooling pad, adjust CPU boost mode, and look for Legion Fan control program (LegionFanControl takes advantage of hidden settings within the embedded controller of Lenovo Legion laptops to influence fan behaviour).

    Additionally to reiterate … lower temps = less fan work.
    1 - Elevate the laptop off your desk (I used lego to prop up the back of the laptop until I got myself a Klim Cyclone cooling pad) to get better airflow from underneath. This can reduce temps by 10c just by doing it.
    2 - There is a cmd prompt command you can run to unhide the Processor performance boost mode in the power plan. I disabled the CPU boost to get way better temps with little no impact on gaming FPS.
    3 - Legion fan control app can help ramp fans up before temps get too high sort of thing. I have been using it for a week or two now and results seem better than stock fan control.
    
    From what I have read on Lenovo discord servers … don't consider repasting to get better temps. The paste that Lenovo use is believed to be honeywell thermal mat, and it is quite high grade paste. People have gotten no change or worse temps attempting to repaste.
