Is a Nintendo Switch Worth It?

I recently got my 3DS out of the cupboard and dusted it off and was wondering if a switch was worth purchasing or will it just end up on the junk pile

I already have a gaming pc and haven't had a console since ps3 because I've never really gotten that into console gaming. But would a switch be an alright option for when you're sitting there with your partner flicking through Netflix not finding anything to watch

Is it your usual nintendo console where you get reemed on game prices. I remember that being the case with the 3DS

Yes Nintendo pricing is ridiculous as always. It's worth it if you'll play it & get enjoyment from it, like anything else. Highly subjective.

Yes it’s worth. But yes you get stuffed on prices. Not like pc where there’s a lot of avenues to get strongly discounted copies without resorting to piracy.

Switch game prices are expensive but they're some of the best rated games
On the flipside is that you can resell the games for nearly as much as you bought them (or sometimes a small profit if you snag it cheap)

I would only purchase a Switch if you need the portability factor or Nintendo exclusives are important to you. There are better options if you only play on the TV. Having said that, it’s great for what it does.

    • This ^^^

The Switch is fantastic if you want to play exclusives as its the only option.

But its a terrible handheld given its about a pound or 400gm so I could never use it for more than 15 min without getting cramps.

Its a terrible home console given it has the power of a 2016 mobile phone.

For $400 it is what it is. I think mine fell behind my pc desk and I CBF'ed fishing it out.

But I admit Nintendo 1st party games are technically amazing on this hardware.

    • I used mine in handheld mode while travelling around Europe for 9 months in 2018, and have hardly touched it since. If you have a long commute via public transport or spend lots of couch time looking at your phone, its not a bad buy.

I've been borrowing my bros switch lately. It's a Nintendo - same soup, just reheated. It won't fill some void in your life or anything like that

  • I'm waiting for the Pro assuming it drops next year when BotW2 does.
I've borrowed one and it's sat there for months untouched.
Maybe I should play it now…. meh cbf 🤷‍♀️

  • was wondering if a switch was worth purchasing or

My wife says yes it's worth purchasing.

will it just end up on the junk pile

Eventually, it will be. How soon will depend on you.

  • Is a Nintendo Switch Worth It?

Depends if you play the exclusive titles.

If you come to a public forum to ask a question that is so subjective, then i think the answer is quite clearly a no.

  • After working all week on PC I don't like to play games on PC. I'm a very casual gamer. For me, the Switch is definitely worth it. I like lounging around playing games, sometimes handheld, sometimes on TV. I do sometimes play handheld while "watching" TV.

Really depends on the person, some people might never use it, I use it at least a few times per week.

  • No.
Kids have one, never use it.

Send it to me, I'll make sure it gets used. 😉👍

  • If you're flicking through Netflix and there's nothing to watch, isn't that when the "chill" part of Netflix and chill begins?

  • I guess it depends what games you want to play. I recently bought a switch lite because I was so keen to play Zelda BOTW and I have no regrets. I am also playing Mario Odyssey which I found pretty fun.

  • It depends. I had one and sold it, because I barely used it. If you don't plan to play games outside of your home I wouldn't get it. I also don't get why the exclusive games are so popular. I tried Zelda BotW a few others, and I didn't enjoy it at all compared to games you can play on a PC or other consoles these days. Below average graphics with no story. It felt like games from early 2000.

I've played my Switch almost every day since I got it and 90% of that has been docked on TV. The handheld capability is more of a party trick rather than a dedicated mobile gaming service. Eg, power goes out and suddenly I can only play handheld. Or it's great when you're at the hospital or waiting for an appointment. Otherwise, it's mostly intended as a home console, and it does that extremely well.

Many Switch versions of games are the definitive ones. The system is just so simple and fast. Jumping in and out of different applications is almost seamless. You can put the console to sleep and pick up where you were within seconds. With other consoles, there's always a start up and load time, and resuming applications from sleepis always buggy.

  • its great because you can play on your tv, and it is also portable.
