I read about 9 of them in high school and I've read part of the first Harry Potter. I would say it's slightly more advanced than Harry Potter in that Lemony Snicket enjoys using long words most people won't know off the dome. I wouldn't say this increases the reading level too much though as the words are explained immediately after in most circumstances.
The themes are slightly darker but the story can also get a bit convoluted towards the end which is part of why I didn't finish the series, though I enjoyed my time with it
I read them collectively between the age of 12 and 15. I think they are similar in level to Harry Potter, in fact, I think adults might appreciate the humour more. The books have a very dark tone to them, I felt they hammed this up for the show and series, it feels much more serious in the books.

@SpainKing: All good most would miss those being on there and be annoyed when they receive it. Just thought I'd inform others they can peel off, in the case it's a showstopper for some.
What reading level are these?
Similar to harry potter or less?
I really enjoyed the movie, and the new series; but I dont wanna read something 'younger' than the HP series was meant for; thats about my limit.
