Definitely targeted; only spotted on my primary DJs Amex so far.

Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend at any American Express accepting business by 28/02/2022 to receive 5% credit each time, up to AU$100 back. Exclusions apply.

OFFER TERMS

  • Offer is valid for payments made online, in-app or in-person at any business that accepts American Express.
  • Payments must be charged to your Card by 28/02/2022 to be eligible for the offer. If a business does not charge your Card by this date (e.g. due to a delay in dispatching your goods), you may not be eligible for the offer.
  • If you spend in a currency other than Australian Dollars, a Currency Conversion Fee applies and this fee is not eligible for the offer. For more information regarding charges made in foreign currencies refer to your Card Member Agreement.

    Not on any of my three cards, but I've learnt it's worth checking back in a day or two as some of these offers don't seem to arrive on every card at the same time.

    Was reading about AMEX cards this morning. Can people justify the use of the platinum card? Has a yearly fee of $1450 which is really steep.

          That Platinum card is quite travel focussed, so it mostly only works out to be decent value if you're travelling quite a bit anyway (though AmEx has done quite a bit to make it worthwhile in the pandemic).

          • It comes with a $450 travel credit each year (or $450 + $400 if you're on the old deal) so as long as you would have spent that on travel anyway that's a chunk of the annual fee straight away.
          • Accor Plus, which comes with a free hotel night, though the value of that can be a bit variable depending on where and when you redeem it. Accor Plus also gives you 25% off dining at the hotel restaurants (when dining solo) or 50% (when there's two of you) even if you're not staying at the hotel. If you eat out a lot or even just want to get breakfast at the hotel while travelling, then that's good value.
          • Fine Hotels and Resorts is good value if you can make it work but can be hard to pin down. If you can get a reasonably priced booking at one of those hotels when you're travelling then the extra inclusions can be very good value.
          • You also get status at a number of other hotel groups (Marriot, Radisson and Hilton) which can occasionally yield some good value, but not usually.
          • Priority Pass and Virgin Australia lounge access, along with several other airport lounges. If you already have status with the airline you're travelling on this just gives you more options. Also, most people wouldn't pay for lounge access if they didn't have it for free so I dunno if it's worth anything really, but if you've got an eight hour transit then lounge access can be totally worthwhile.
          • International Airline Program gives you some discounts on flights with certain airlines, usually only when paying for premium cabins, though I've sometimes gotten discounts on economy seats.

          I'd be cautious about this card, to make it work you really need to know what all the different benefits are (which requires a bit of effort) and be taking advantage of them to get things you would otherwise have paid for. That usually means that you're travelling quite a bit already anyway and this card will give you discounts and bonuses during that travel. How much that's worth is a bit of a personal thing and you also need to weigh it against just paying for that stuff yourself.

            @SeaWolf au: Yeah I was planning on getting it in the next few years (planned when you could get the sup $400 card). However now they have removed that additional $400 travel credit option it doesn't stack up worthwhile for me, kinda annoyed I missed out on that.

            4 supp card holders
            All supp card holders get hotel and car rental status (except Accor plus)
            All supp card holders get lounge access that is based on presentation of the card (eg amex lounge, plaza premium) - ie not priority pass
            1 nominated supp card holder gets a priority pass (so you get a total of 2 priority pass, both unlimited + 1 guest)

            The good thing is that amex generally extends courtesies and soft benefits to the supp card holder. So if spouse, parent or sibling travels regularly as well (someone you trust with a supp card), it may be worth splitting the benefits (and perhaps the cost) by assigning supp cards

            Some people can get (or are still on) professional affiliation cards which have a $250 discount for plat

            The loss of the $400 travel credit with the plat reserve for new sign ups is a kick below the belt though - a lot harder to make the sums work without it.

            I wouldn't be so quick to write off the value of lounge, particularly at somewhere like London where there's an arrivals lounge. Somewhere to shower, freshen up, have breakfast for early morning arrivals when your room isn't ready was fantastic. Arrivals lounges are rare though (was disappointed Hkg closed), and when provided by airlines are often exclusive to business/first and platinum grade FFs (and even then, only their own plats - alliance plats often don't get it)

            @daft009: I'm on the explorer card and I can say the points boost are crazy, but I don't see it justifiable to pay close to $1500 just as an annual fee. Sure, there are benefits when you travel a lot considering you are going have unlimited lounge access but with Covid, there is so much uncertainty. I also went through the fine print and there are lots of other insurances that they cover. If you are taking back the $1500(indirectly), then yes, it might seem worth it.

              With the platinum I've had $300 to spend at DJs, $300 to spend at restaurants or online did delivery and 3x $250 approx to use at Woolies/Coles this year
              These have been 100% credits

          DJ Amex is an Amex you can hold which doesn't count as holding an Amex (for the 18 month new card holder reset). But guess there is no way to earn MR points etc

    It's a shame this offer wasn't more widely available (unless DJs Amex card members are the guinea pigs). I've gotten 5% off on a ton of things ranging from eating out, to groceries, to tickets to a show! Even got $6 back instead of $5 back when using The Reject Shop Amex Statement Credit offer! And no minimum spend unlike the recent Citibank offer where you had to spend $500.

    Not bad for someone who doesn't pay for their DJs Amex!
