Wow, sounds very reasonable and efficient.

      • +1

Was a little slow going at the start, but the way it went…should be at least something for everyone that lined up in the morning. Staff were definitely working hard, they deserve the first picks at that store if they could get them.

    • +2

that sounds awesome, wish they did that everywhere.

  • Well, just came back from my local DSE in regional SA. Was only interested in the Xbox Gold and Points cards. Walked in and they had about a dozen of each.Took them to the counter only to be told that the only ones that are on sale are the old "paper/cardboard" ones-you know, the ones where you peel off the paper on the pack to reveal code. Of course, they had none of those.

I really hope some US mega corp like BestBuy purchase DSE, at least they know how to run a sale!!

    • LOL! which store was this?

      • Looks like Parra..

    • LOL thanks for that.

    • +2

lol so you were the guy who was standing on the table filming the moment when the Parramatta DSE opened at 9am…

  • I managed to get the wii fit starter kit for $1 lol!
its just a yoga mat, cover for the board and rechargeable batteries, perfect timing since I got the Wii fit board during the Harvey Norman sale last week.

    • how much for a yoga mat?

      • both the kit and the yoga mat standalone are $1 each :) I grabbed a kit since it was the same price as the mat!

  • +1

The DSE facebook page is going nuts! Go have a read of all the angry comments.

    • they deleted all their angry comments - pretty funny while it lasted :)

didn't help the list was released last week and everyone was hoping they would get a dsi

  • +3

    Can we revoke our +'s?

    • Yes but you can't then neg the deal unfortunately :(

  • Stock too low & online sale began before 8am.

  • Just got back from Dick Smith Fyshwick… pretty massive disappointment.. the list is incorrect.. red dead redemption was still $40 etc..

    • It would scan at the sale price.

      • I had it in my hand and went to the counter.. scanned at $40

      • Tried it at the local store and it scanned at $50.

      • The PS3 version scanned at $50.

      • +1

List wasn't official or anything, but I found fallout GOTY and uncharted 2pack were still full price

        • OK, I knew there would be no stock - but fake prices too?

This deal has finally earned a neg from me.

  • lame

  • Well the Perth city stores were a fail. Nothing in the City Central store (unless you were REALLY hanging for The Micheal Jackson Experience on Wii) and the other city store had a line of about 100 people. They happened to open the doors just as I arrive so I walked straight in, saw that nothing was actually on sale/nothing worth wading through the hoards and left. Guy on the door was telling people there's no consoles and that the games sale starts on the 11th.

So, pretty much shit overall. At least I got some decent stuff out of the HN sale…

  • Bit disappointed by seeing group of teens picking up 10 G19 & 5 DSi & all 3DS games. Couldn't believe the whole 3DS game shelf was empty. & at the counter, they found none of the 3DS games what they picked up were on sale!
created much chaos & laugh everywhere!
However, secured MW3 turtle beach bravo for $40 & managed to price match 3DS NFS:The Run with the published price list - $10

  • Any free publicity is good publicity I guess. Especially true for a company that might be offloaded in the future.

  • +1

    Nooo I can't Neg because I had +VE :(

    • Same here… What a joke of a morning!

  • I saw the staff putting stickers on a whole bunch of decent xbox games and then taking them out the back. I asked what was going to happen to them and they said that they didn't know, as they hadn't been told anything yet due to Dick Smith not trusting the staff since the leak.

He must think we're all pretty stupid.

  • massive disappointment
Bargain empty bin, looks like the staff cleaned up first.
Wonder if ebay will get extra games posted by DSE staff?

  • +1

My mate went and there was zero discounted console available. All the good games were not available. It was complete waste of time.

Negging this because a lot of people who voted positive too early and cannot revoke their positive now.

  • +1

Went to my local DSE this morning, it's only a small store and I knew they don't have a great deal of stock. Guy came out about 20 mins before the store opened with a printout saying the sale doesn't start till the 11th, we told him the Facebook said today so he went back and checked. Came out and said that some items seemed to be on sale but he wasn't sure which, so we were all free to try having things scanned and see if they'd work. Didn't see any staff hoarding, they didn't have PS3s or 360s which I didn't expect from that store but there were 4 DSis in the cabinet (plus the display one, not sure if they sold that).

  • I was told that the bondi junction store was raided in the first 15 minutes. Although it didn't seem like they had much stock to begin with.

Nevertheless I scored the last halo 3 for $5. If anyone
Is dying to buy pictionary on wii then there are plenty of those in stock! : P

    • I've called them up and they're sounding a bit peeved at the whole thing. I'm like suck it up princess.

  • My local store had 5 G27s but they were marked as $500. Asked some guy at the counter if it was the actual price and he said yep. I wish I was as lucky as the people who were able to pick one up today for $139 :(

  • went to Chadston store, a few xbox and ps3 behind the console, asked the staff, been told all gone, nothing left. didn't get any subscription or ms points, what a waste of time

  • April joke continues……

  • Anyone from BRISBANE get anything worth while? Just wanted to ask since most of the stuff were out of stock on the 'check store stock'.

  • +5

Was a punch on outside woodridge dick smiths

    • +1

Now why does this not surprise me.. Probably over a $100 xbox that someone was going to hock for $800 at cashies :)

  • Waste of time, 'second round on the 12th, they leaked the list wrong'. Bullshit.

  • hehe.. i saw this the other day and looked at DS website to try and find a G19.. it showed as only have 1 G19 in the greater area of melbourne.. I instantly gave up and came to the conclusion "good luck" to whoever manages to grab one.. Extremely limited stocks and all mostly picked clean by DS employees.

  • +1

Was a bit weak. No prices on items, one sales clerk to serve 20+ customers (two different stores!). Best advice, don't waste your time (unless you have nothing better to do). You may find some good deals, but bring the price list as they haven't marked everything in store. Xbox 360s are going down in price on ebay for a little while though after today.

  • Went to two DSE's, didn't bother going there before opening, but pretty much got raped an pillaged by ozbargainers as soon as i got there. Waste of time, didn't buy anything, especially because by the time i got there, the lines at the checkouts were already massive (~10 mins after opening), so cbf actually waiting 30 minutes to buy some thing i didn't really want.

Fail sale, i suppose they stressed low stock, but there's no doubt heaps of stuff is going straight to ebay or gumtree, that's why i'm negging this, because DSE probably should have done something to avoid scalpers.

    • +1

"Went to two DSE's, didn't bother going there before opening, but pretty much got raped an pillaged by ozbargainers as soon as i got there" - I reallllly hope you're referring to the Dick Smith game section and not yourself…

      • i mean the sale got raped and pillaged by ozbargainers, it was practically over within 10-15 minutes.

  • Can those of you who managed to get the Logitech G27 at the reduced price post the receipt so those who didn't can use it at JB HiFi etc?

    • There's some receipts posted in the actual g27 post check there

  • It will be good if they can now release a load of G19's and allow us to order it online…that may salvage things a little.

  • Waste of time. Not a single XBOX 250Gb console was ever available in SA, and only ONE 4Gb console which went in seconds. One console for the whole of SA. Pretty pathetic sale.

Even with the games, I went to Marion (which was one of their larger stores with the most titles apparently in stock - I checked online earlier)… They were all in a single box/bin for each console and it was a massive grab what you can affair. That being said, there was only one or no copies of the bigger games like LA Noire, etc. and I was one of the first through the door at 9am.

Then there are other games like Tony Hawk Ride for the PS3. Two staff members saying the computer's showing 1 in stock, but one refused to go out the back and check, the other just said, it's probably gone.

This sale (regardless of whether it was leaked or not) was a joke. To have a REAL sale, means you have some decent items and at least 5-10 of them per store. Most of the items on the leaked list were never available or were taken by staff.

  • how do you revoke positive vote?

  • +2

I lined up at Dickies - Logan Hyperdome at 9:00 there was about 15 people waiting who rushed in when the sale started, there was crap all. I picked up a guitar stand for $2 mainly so I felt like I got something.

I then went to Dickies in the Homemaker Centre in Underwood. I should have gone there first, there were so many people lined up at the checkout with bargains. Although they also had a lot of stock that wasn't reduced to the price on the list, 3DS Sims was normal price, as was the Brain training on xbox, Wii resort etc… I also saw a number of PS3 console boxes lying around the store so I am assuming they were coming up normal price too. However, the staff were friendly and more than willing to check prices at the register before putting it through.
    I picked up:
    Xbox game tower - $5
    Wii game tower - $5
    Rise of Nightmares - $15
Simpsons Movie Bluray (Not on the sale, but still cheap) $8
PS3 Charging cable $5 (Im fairly sure that was normal price though…)

All in all it was a sale, even though I didn't get anything from my wishlist I feel lucky I got something on special. My biggest disappointment was the bargain hunters who were there. Almost everyone was rude, selfish and conniving. I saw people try to take people's items while they were distracted looking through the sale list, I heard NUMEROUS people buying multiple copies of sale items "Just in case they trade in for more at EB" or to put on ebay. I understand getting A sale item, but it's not cool taking more than one of something if you have no intention of keeping it or giving it to someone who will.

    PIC of my stash! ;P

  • Local store showed as having G19 stock but when I arrived… usual story. Overheard the staff talking about what they had picked up. Not fussed about staff taking whatever they want, more bothered by the idea of this special 'sale' being advertised for the general public.

  • Even though the harvey norman sale wasn't as 'good' bargain-wise, they handled their customers a lot better than this.

    • And that's saying something, considering how poorly they handled their customers.

    • +1

Depends on the Harvey Norman store. Some stores have good service, some don't.

One Harvey Norman store agreed to hold an item for me, by the time I got there (30 minutes later), the staff told me they sold the item. They did not even bother calling me and let me know.

If they don't want to hold the item for me, they should just tell me, rather than lie to me and waste my time.

    • That's saying a lot about how this was run…

  • +1

went to Lidcombe store, two g19 were on shelf, including a displayed one, both one were literally gone within a minute.

  • +12

Allowing staff to take the sale stock (outside of store hours) was a low act, and shows the contempt for customers thats seen them go broke. If it was left as a word of mouth/viral thing I wouldn't neg, but them confirming details on facebook was poor form (especially when they knew how few stock they had).

  • +2

Totally crap sale DSE launceston had nothing, the stuff they had marked down a girl came a put in a box and took it all away WTF.

Setup this account just to say this, but have to wait 30 days to neg this so called bargain…

    • +1

You can have my neg. No sale.

    • Haha yeah I was there too.

Was one DSi, that's it. Nothing else.

      • Devonport had zilch really. There were a bunch of geeks milling about out the front before 9am, and we all walked in rather dignified, with a small cry of 'Huzzah' from me. We got to the games section, muttered 'Meh' and hunted around for anything interesting.

Generic Wii controllers were $2 - one fella bought all of them to re-sell on fleabay.

        Pretty fail really.

  • +1

    All gone..

  • +2

    i'm think i'm gonna cry now…

  • +2

    Crap!!!!

  • +5

waste of time, saw staff's friends from the window taking all the stuff before the store opened…for proof took pics too…

    • +2

Can you post them? I want to use for official complaint to DS headquarters!

  • +2

Totally unorganised sale. They were still organising stock (very little) at 11 in the morning. Prices did not scan properly at the register.

  • +4

Looks like Dickie Smith are learning from the COTD method of getting hits:

Advertise cheap as chips consoles, but don't tell anyone you only had 5 available.

Count on customers to impulse-buy other stock.

    Yay!

  • +3

Went into the small local DSE this morning, no console was on sale and hardly any customers there. This deal is so fake, neg from me even I was not planning to purchase any specific stuff.

  • +2

Why are individual's being negged for simply reporting back their experience (disappointment), with the sale?

  • +4

Was at the George St. Sydney store this morning and everyone was just grabbing the empty console boxes and bringing them to the counter only to be told they have no consoles. So many angry people in there but who wouldn't have been!

  • +1

i got a wii fit starter pack for $1… that is all… from all 4 geelong stores even when 2 are closing down

  • +2

Eastgardens store was busy, got there at 5 past 9.people everywhere with lists etc coudlnt find anything I wanted =(

  • +10

congratulations dick smith, you just made the WORST SALE ever.

  • +3

    total crap…poor sale

  • +1

If anybody want the Wii 'Zig Zag Storage Tower' there are still around 10 left at the Roselands Store - $5

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/YG0469/wii-zig-zag-storage-t…

    • Got 2 an hour ago. Thanks!!

    • also about 10 at the Warringah mall store, 1 xbox tower left too.

  • +1

Post up receipts so we can try and price match! Have hope!

  • +10

Remember, no one f***s you over like a Dick does.

    Staff took everything, poor form.

Ebay hoarders bought all they could.

    I weep for humanity.

    • I did manage to get Daxter for $1, Fable 3 for $5 and Kingdom Hearts psp for $10.

To be honest I laughed at all the kids skipping school to be there and hoping everything was on sale.

      • +3

        It's school holidays.

        • Not for everyone :|

    • The ultimate karma would be all those that bought the stuff for offloading on eBay managed to get screwed over by buyers, ended up having to refund the stuff at Dick and good ol' Dick still get stuck with everything they've got from the beginning.

…but I don't like the chances of that happening though.

      • No refunds allowed for 'change of mind' :P

    • I feel for Dick Smith the man himself; endlessly being associated with this mismanaged hoard of 'Turdspurts' ;-)

  • +3

Well, in a bit of a twist, I had tried to buy LA Noire at the shop this morning but was told it wasn't on the list, so I put it back.

I just checked online and I see that it's for sale online, so I called the shop and asked them why they didn't sell it this morning. They checked and then admitted that they'd just messed up, so they said they'd put it aside for me and I could come and grab it this morning!

So it's a NEG for Dick Smith, but a + for the staff who, even though they messed up, were happy to correct their error.

    • +2

Obviously no one want your game.

      • No, I think that everyone would have just been told that it wasn't on special (like I was) and no one else bothered to check online…

  • +6

Terrible sale especially since staff and their friends are taking stuff before the store opens.

    • +2

It's actually good that they had this sale to show how bad some of the staff there are.

EDIT: but there are some stories where the staff stepped up, so I'm not hating on all the staff, just the bad ones!

      • +1

Maybe this sale is to test the staff. All the bad ones will be redundant in the next reorganization.

  • +12

staff took absolutely everything, pointless sale.

  • +2

Went to Bondi Junction 9.20 am. It was about 25 people in front.
No consoles, but bought LA Noire,Avatar andbulletstorm PS3 for 5$ each.

  • dunno if this has been posted up but saw this
Due to the popularity of the Gaming Sale, we understand some customers have been left disappointed this morning.

Today’s sale was a clearance sale which means stock was strictly limited and availability varied between stores and online. This was clearly outlined on our page when the sale was announced last week.

We received an overwhelming response this morning. As a result many stores sold out within the first hour of the sale and our website received an unprecedented volume of traffic.

Contrary to some reports, Dick Smith will continue to sell Gaming.
