Asus ROG Flow X13 with R9 5980HS/GTX 1650 + XG Mobile Egpu (RTX 3080) $3599 Free Delivery @ Wireless1

120

This model, unlike the others, comes with the XG Mobile.

This is a one-of-a-kind laptop which is super portable (1.3kg) and relatively powerful (dedicated GPU in 13") at the same time. It is 2-in-1, which means its touchscreen. The 120Hz 16:10 screen is really nice on top of all that.

The XG Mobile is a full wattage (150W) RTX 3080 Mobile. It connects via a proprietary port that gives it PCIe 3.0 x8 bandwith. Once connected, it also charges the laptop and acts as an IO hub.

This is still a good price though. Lot of power and flexibility.

    • yep lol, just wanted to post this as it's still a good price

  • Is eGPU bottlenecked cause of external connection?

No. As OP have also stated, the XGmobile is different from a traditional egpu in that instead of an thunderbolt connection. it utilises a proprietory connector for PCIe 3.0 x8 bandwidth. You can expect it to perform just as well as other 15/17 inch 3080 gaming laptops with 3080 mobile and its almost certainly no slower than a traditional ultrabook hooked up to a egpu with desktop 3080 card at a fraction of the size. This uses a tuned down 5980hs processor and even at 35w (it can boost to 45w) its one of the best mobile processors there is.

Nothing compares to it at this price point and form factor.

I'd actually expect it to run better than inbuilt gpus under load because it can cool seperate to the chassis.

        • I say its a 'maybe' depending on which model you are looking at.

On something like acer, where they stuff 3080+8c16t chips inside the same chasis as 4c8t+low wattage 3060s, or those 'thin n light n gaming' laptops like the x15r1? yeah its not even close. But most high end 3080 notebooks will have sufficient cooling solution for the 3080, they also have additional 15w coming from dynamic boost. The gpu core and vram will run hotter no doubt, but its not going to throttle to the point that it will be worse than the xgmobile.

        • Which is great, because you have the power if you need it, and just unplug the XG Mobile when you need a thin and light. Actually, the combined weight is about 2.3kg, which is similar to the weight of a lot of gaming laptops. So quite portable and versatile.

  • LHR LHR LHR LHR LHR?

    • +1

The eGPU is a mobile RTX 3080, not desktop. This means there is no LHR or non-LHR
