Seems like the price was close to $200 in March?
Is this a joke post? Enamelled cast iron costs next to nothing to make. Which is why they can offer the "lifetime replacement warranty". They are still ahead if everyone claims several times.
This one is bigger, $14:

Buy a few, and if it ever cracks, you can go to the shed for a "free replacement", just like Le Creuset.

tl;dr: They do the same job. French one is worth paying a little more for cosmetic reasons. Not 20X!
Quote from the article you posted:
I've got some cheap Aldi ones and a Le Creuset one - never use the Aldi ones now; discoloured, food sticks etc…
Are they 20X better? Depends on how much you cook / rely on them. But if cheap cookware leads to worse cooking, I'm happy to pay a bunch more, especially for something that gets used at least once every week.
Mind you, for this deal… pass. Too small to be of much use for my purposes. But I'll happily pay a premium for "workhorse" cookware I'm pulling out every weekend.
But if cheap cookware leads to worse cooking
That of course is the question! But my reading says most people say the difference is cosmetic, e.g. more easily chipped edges on the lid, or discolouration inside from curries.
How do people feel over a seasoned raw cast iron pan, vs enamel iron, vs stainless steel with aluminium sandwiched inside for even heat?
There is a whole other argument over cast iron in general these days, compared to modern alternatives, starting with the Crock Pot or Thermomix - - but that is how you start a religious flame war :-)
creuset are triple glazed, other brands are single or double glazed …..but yeah ….creuset do charge a premium even compared to other french brands such as staub or chasseur …. i got my creuset pieces when they still used to do 50% off at sales …..that was before lockdowns and now creuset seem to protect the brand image and only do typically 20% off offers which is unexciting ….
check out prices on the larger creuset casseroles like 26cm or 28cm ……ouch …..
but then people pay $200 for plastic lens sunglasses ….all relative to what you value and makes you feel good about a purchase ….
I need at least 20 upvote before I buy this.!!
you got 1 , I need 50
It's hard to claim for warranty. Buyer beware.
What are you making? A casserole for ants?
beef casserole …if you see the price of beef at the moment this is plenty big , maybe not for a vegie casserole.
Too small.
Much better off with the Staub 24 deal:

I feel that every time the discussion about which cast iron casserole comes up, the argument is surrounding the price.
It's like a comparison for buying a Toyota Corolla vs. Jaguar. Both gets you from point A to B (functionality) but with the premium price of a Jaguar, you probably getting nicer quality leather seat, maintenance every 100k km instead of every 20K km, better customer service, etc.
It boils down to what you want out of it.
If you want a Toyota, it's fine. If you want a Jaguar and you can buy afford, it is also fine. It is just a matter of preference and affordability.
20cm is great for 2-3 pax with some leftovers. I love my 20cm Le Creuset/Staub Dutch Oven.
Seems like a good price to me.
20cm is tiny
