Hmm - worth upgrading from Brewista smart kettle to this?

Edit - bought, thanks OP for the deal.

    • What drove the upgrade? I have the Brewista and there are a couple of things I really don't like.. particularly how long it takes the PID to cycle…. i.e. kettle at 93… set to 95… need to wait upwards of 10-15 seconds for it to activate the element …

Wonder if you could follow up down the road with how you find this one instead?

      • I always wanted a Fellow Stagg EKG kettle, but settled for a Brewista smart kettle in the past because it was more affordable at the time.

Besides looking much better on the countertop, the Fellow Stagg is quite a bit faster to heat up apparently. Also, the Fellow Stagg is a smaller kettle, and when space is at a premium on my countertop, this makes a difference.

        • oh interesting.. I just started editing my comment but couldn't commit it because of this reply. I was actually going to say: I think the Stagg will boil slower based on the wattage.. assuming the Australian version is 1200W like the Seattle Coffee Gear review says, my Brewista gooseneck is 1500W so I would have thought it boils faster (except for the fact that the PID slows things down massively for the last few degrees).

  • Do I upgrade my stovetop Hario gooseneck with a $200 dollar kettle……………………………..no

    • I used to have that - much prefer an electric kettle

      • Yeah totally agree - but, I cant justify $200 because it looks nice

I also just throw it on the stove, and while I grind, get my filter ready etc. its boiled.

I just pour hot water from my regular kettle into my stovetop gooseneck.

@POSITIVEVIBESONLY: brilliant! - although coffee aficionado's will have your head.

            • @Fergy1987: I dump half of the regular kettle's water into preheating my v60, cup and gooseneck. I reboil the regular kettle and by the time I get my grinds into the v60 and on the scale, the water is at temp to be moved to my preheated gooseneck reducing down to around 95.

              • +1

@POSITIVEVIBESONLY: I would happily pay $200 to never have to do this.

                • @Anders: Still have to preheat your v60 and cup. Don't really have much to do during that time, you might as well just preheat your gooseneck.

                  • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: Considering I remineralize my own water, it's the wastage that I'm not a fan of.

Edit: OK I re-read and see you don't necessarily dispose of the water in the gooseneck. Or do you?

    • The Hario electric kettle is on sale for $180 by the looks of it too.

How does this compare to a K-mart kettle which I can also afford?

This kettle gives you the braincells to realise that it serves a different function.

  • Great kettle! Received one as a gift. Makes things easier when making coffee with the Aeropress.

That is by far and away the ugliest appliance in existence…..

    • +1

I think it's the most beautiful retail kettle ever made. Especially with the wood handle upgrade

    • +1

This kettle is so elegantly designed that its stocked at high end designer clothing stores.

If you think its the 'ugliest appliance in existence' I'd love to see what you think is a good looking kettle lol

      • chill bro it's just a kettle

I got one for $175 from Barty during their last gear promo. It took a month to arrive, but that was an insane deal, this is merely an ok one, especially since Barty I believe dropships AB.

  • My wife has one of these and she loves it.
I would be happy with a normal kettle but this is pretty fancy.
    It taught me something aswell.
I didn't know that water boils at lower temperatures the higher the altitude so being in Canberra we need to set it below 100°c or it overflows.

  • Good luck cleaning the spout
