Is this a good deal? can anyone recommend something better?

I was eyeing this one - looks to be pretty good in terms of reviews. Also good that it's from a "known" brand (they are another Xiaomi company). I think only concern might be the range as the 10Ah battery isn't that big. Out of all the folding ones, weight is about 20kg which is not the heaviest, but also not the lightest.

The other one I was looking at was a Fiido D11/D12 which is sold through JB. That one is even lighter still - about 17kgs.

For comparison I ended up going with a Leitner SuperT, and weight is about 26kgs but has an upgraded 16Ah battery and can get me about 60kms out of one charge. The weight plays a big factor when lifting the bike and putting it into boot of a car - my wife really struggles with it. If I were to buy again… I probably would have gone one of the the other two.

Getting a foldable bike really opens up your options. I can put it in the car and drive to a destination to begin my bike ride from there. On more than one occasion (slightly embarassed to say) I've run out of battery and my wife has been able to come and pick me up. Over the summer we are planning a couple of local getaways and we will be bringing our bikes along to tour the area. The negative side is don't expect to compete with serious bikes. The top end of the gear range is pretty low so it runs out of steam at about 25kmh. I think these type of bikes are more a touring bike for sightseeing or a bit of fresh air. If you want some serious riding then get a proper bike/ebike.

  • Are these any good to do a bit of exercise on the side? Been throwing up whether to get a regular bike or just futureproof and get an electric bike (if there's an assisted mode), which just offsets for the obviously heavier weight of the bike.

I assume this kind of folding style isn't optimal for that purpose, but can anyone recommend a style/brand/model?

See my comment above for my experience… I think these foldable bikes are more for sightseeing or touring through an area, and it can take you around comfortably without much effort.

However if you are after exercise, I find that the weight, gearing and wheel size works against you so you can only get up to around at about 20-25kmh and won't be able to go any faster regardless of how much pedaling you do. If you turn the pedal assist down you have to put in more effort but you don't feel yourself going very fast for the amount of effort you are putting in. This may take away from the reward/enjoyment you get from the exercise, in which case I would recommend getting a full sized bike with better gears.

      • Thanks, do you have any experience with the standard bike styles (not foldable) which I assume would be better suited for using as a 'hybrid'?

  • Alot more details and some reviews on the JB Hifi site: $1499

    • This have been around $1050 to $1100 for many months from a seller like PCByte

At the $1500 price range, you get into the Fiido D12 which is a little smaller
