Bought one a few months ago for $160, it's a great tripod if you have a reasonably light camera and lens. I got it mainly for bushwalking and it has been good for that so far, it folds down to a very small and light package.

It's stable enough with my z5 + 24-70 f/4, which are about 1.2kg combined. The tripod itself feels solid, but the ballhead is a bit on the dinky side and was slipping a little for me until I really tightened it — I would probably replace it if my kit was much heavier, but as it is it's adequate.

Also keep in mind it only extends to about upper chest level, which I don't find to be an issue but might be a pain if you want to use the viewfinder.

Definitely worth it at $130 if it fits your needs.

    • Thank you for posting your thoughts on this tripod :)

    • Cheers snep, Do you find the centre column unstable at all?

I've got the A1005 which is similar but aluminum and the center column is wobbly but still usable with my a6400 and 18-105. I've bought the 5C as I'm wanting something lighter again.

Similar to what Darkscythe said, extending the centre column does make more unstable, but it's still pretty good considering. I tend to leave it retracted unless I need the height, but that's also partly cos I'm lazy. If it's not windy and you're using a remote release or self timer it's probably not an issue.

        • Does this central column retract? It looks like it's fixed in?

          • @wittyusername: It doesn't retract all the way — of the two halves, the lower one is fixed, but the upper one can be retracted into the lower one, if that makes sense.

            • @snep: Yep, I'm with you. I'm not really a fan of those central columns, I prefer the tripods where the centre column can be adjusted as a last resort as I find they're the least secure part.

              • @wittyusername: Yeah I agree. I guess in this case it's a compromise for size, given the legs are very short on their own.

              • @wittyusername: I agree, its a shame it cant be fully retracted.
At the very least on the 5C, you can remove the centre column and attach the head directly, at the cost of some height

  • any possibility of deal on Sirui Traveler 5CX? It has an upgraded ballhead
