    • probably go blind working on such a small screen.
I'll recommend getting a bigger screen for work/school.

    • 1366x766 clamshell!

Duet too delicate, screen res "too high".

      • Too delicate, in what way?

I just bought one of these for Kid's home use and school BYOD. @@Sintro might be right about the small screen though - even an FHD 13.3" was often difficult to read some of the Google Slides -based assignments.

There's an 11.6" widescreen Flex 3 just a little dearer - might be more robust but would the screen be much better?
Difference in Processors too, this with MT P60T, or the Flex 3 with either MT 8183 2GH or Celeron N4020 (1.1 - 2.8 GHz) - wouldn't know which is better.

        • +1

Yes! The guy said he was doing price matches for this Chromebook all day and OW had just dropped it to $277 themselves

  • dunno if I should get the ideapad flex 5i instead like $489 at gg

Awesome - just bought @ Amazon - delivery tomorrow was too good to resist!

    • +1

Yeah I might go with Amazon using GC, cashback and free delivery instead of officeworks.

      • can you get cashback for this? say laptop 0% but tablet 3% in shopback.

        • Actually, guess not since it's in the laptop category.

        • Actually it might come under computers & accessories which is 4% at Cashrewards.

          • @sintro: Electronics
            4% cashback
            Shop now
Bluetooth Speakers, Bluetooth Head & Earphone, Stereo Components, Speakers, Other Electronics
Exclusions: Amazon Devices, TVs & Accessories, Computers & Accessories, Printers, Projectors, Musical/Recording Equipment, Blu-ray Players, Projectors, Game Consoles, Mobile Phones & Accessories, Home Automation, Soundbars, Smart Watches

  • OW updated price to $277. I called anyway and had them price match to Amazon. $261.25 including delivery tomorrow.

  • Any way I am able to view a list of available chrome OS apps on Playstore before buying a chromebook like this? There are some apps on Playstore that are a must have, if not its not worth getting.

    • +1

While many Android apps — especially the more popular ones — are optimized for Chromebooks, many still aren’t. An optimized app will work in full-screen mode, making it easy to use. These apps work just like standard Chromebook apps you get from the Chromebook app store.

However, apps that aren’t optimized show up in a phone screen format, which only takes up a portion of your screen. They can still be used, but the experience isn’t the best. You can check out how an unoptimized app looks like on a Chromebook in the screenshot above.

  • Is there such thing as a USB-C type splitter or hub that can be used?

  • Cheaper if using shopback 7% cashback harvey noman GC. Cheaper than price match.

  • still looking for cheap USI pen….. second hand is fine too

    • Is $52.14 cheap enough for you? I can send you a method to get it for that price if you want.

      • err.. thanks but not at that price.. more impulse buying haha
i'll go check ebay/gumtree for second hand

      • I am interested.

Looking these deals remind me of LG V30 few years back

  • Is it likely it could be cheaper on black Friday? Potential contenders could be big w, jb etc.

  • oh $275 on AmazonAU for another 6h or so: https://www.amazon.com.au/Lenovo-Ideapad-Chromebook-CT-X636F…

    posted here earlier

  • How does the Flex 3i compare to this model? Currently $298 (down from $498) at Harvey Norman
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lenovo-ideapad-flex-3i-chrom…
Bigger screen and different processor? Anything else to consider?

    • +1

Bigger screen but lower res @ 1366x768 but you can change to 1518 * 853, much better keyboard, heavier….

I've got the C340 the "ancestor" of the Flex 3I with N4000 and think that generally browsing etc is faster than the Duet.

Really depends on what you want to do with it. Duet for sitting on the lounge reading forums, short emails, streaming media or when I'm travelling (when I might need to type out a slightly longer work email or something I can grab out the keyboard) . C340 would be my "main" unit for on the desk, typing out longer documents etc. Duet really is a supplementary device. Current supplements my Flex 5 (C340 is in "no-mans" land :) )

What's weird is that the video on the site is for the Flex 5 AND the girl's wearing a Microsoft polo…..LOL

      • JB hifi have two Flex 3s at $288 :

        Intel Celeron N4020 processor (1.1 - 2.8GHz) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-ideapad-flex-3-11-…
        MT8183 2.0G processor (2.0GHz) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-ideapad-flex-3-11-…

I wouldn't know how to choose between those two processors. Both a year newer than the MT P60T in this Duet.
The ticket price of the MT 8183 is $200 dearer than the Celeron!

I just bought a Duet as a BYOD for a primary school kid that also likes to play Roblox, etc. Kid has been hogging mum's Flex5.
Reading your comments makes me wonder if one of these might be better. Especially after someone elses comments about the Duet screen isn't really big enough for school work - although during lockdown we struggled with the 13.3" FHD screen of the Flex5 at times.

I had avoided widescreen laptops as I have a 15" widescreen that I hate for browsing - I'm usually zoomed out at 80%.

  • Thinking to get a budget laptop for my years 5 kid. How this thing comparing to a windows laptop for primary school student? Sufficient for all the work need? Office?

    • +1

It's a glorified web browser. So pro it's harder to install viruses, con they don't get those fancy microsoft programs - I hope google docs is good enough. IIRC schools have basically standardised around chrome OS now days.

      • Thank you

There is 13 inch version, not sure if will be discounted but how that compared with the 10 inch one?

    • I think the 13 inch is a very different device, the 13 is a competitor to the hp x2 with a newer CPU and better hardware but double price ,the only competitor to the 10.1 is the ASUS CM3 which is not available in Oz.
the 10.1 is a 2020 model. And all other mentioned is 2021.

  • Does any one recommend a usb hub to supplement the single usb port on this chromebook?

  • Had to return it. Touchscreen didn't work and a couple of days to transfer stock for a fresh one.

Bought this for 299 back in June, can't recommend it enough. It's many uses for me thus far:

    • PDF reader during DnD sessions
    • Movie player when I'm on the train
    • Did a bit of light coding on it with Visual code
    • Played the hell out of Baldur's gate and KOTOR, although KOTOR does lag a little in some spots
    • Used NVIDIA GeForce Now for remote play

    What if can't do:

    • Multitask. Any more than 5 apps/tabs open at once and it slows down
    • Digital art. Touchscreen just isn't good enough
    • Run any windows applications. Was a bit disappointed when I couldn't run my preferred text editor
  • Where are you getting the screen protector and the pen from?

  • anyone tried to play roblox on it. my kid complains older tabs lag and dont work too well soo looking for something cheap instead of forking out for an ipad

PS: Amazon has dropped back to $275 Delivered, so can price-beat at Officeworks again ($261.25)

  • LOL almost a year now. I bought that Lenovo USI Pen late last year:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/594799

now because of this deal, I finally get to use it. I can wait for Intel Gen12 and AMD 3D crap, to become mainstream, and have prices fall back to earth eventually. In the mean time I'm checking out this Chromebook till then.

    • great investment. Hopefully they will offer this price again.

  • You just missed it!
We ran out of stock message!!
