WD TV Live Streaming Media Player for $99 at Harvey Norman

620

First post so let me know if anything is missing…

WD TV Live Streaming Media Player at Harvey Norman Springvale Victoria for $99.

This is the latest WDTV live with wifi built in and the new interface etc…

So here's my story:
Went to Office Works Chadstone for the usual price match and extra 5% off.

Was told in order to get the price match, OW needed to call HN Springvale to confirm the offer was real. On the phone though, the HN Springvale guys refused to confirm or deny the deal was real and simply said they will only confirm the deal in person and not on the phone.

So Office Works Chadstone couldn't price match it.

In the end I gave up and I just walked over to Harvey Norman Chadstone (next door to OW chadstone). They price matched it no worries.

I've attached my receipt with this post so hopefully your price matching adventures will be easier than mine.

I know its not cheaper than that crazy amazon price match a while back, but $99 is the best price I can find for it going around at the moment so bargain in my eyes.

Edit:
Since I dunno if the receipt thing is getting accepted, here is the image I used to successfully get HN Chadstone to price match HN Springvale,

      • updated the post with the pic I used to price match…

All I can say is give it a shot and good luck. I told the HN guy, "this deal is current because its got the same "March Madness" logos you guys are using". He gave me the price match straight away.

        • +1

Called up HN QVH but the guy said they had nothing with $149 WD TV Live, all they have is a $119 one.

EDIT: Called up JB Hifi Elizabeth Street and though they can't price match HN Springvale as its outside the 15km radius, he'll give me the unit for $99!!!

  • I can not find this media player anywhere in sydney for that price :(

  • Hi I am curios about a feature I love on Media Centre with Media browser plugin, that is it tells me what i have watched by changing the colour of the title. I know this seems nigly but it is a feature I love. Does the Western Digital do this ? I am having trouble with watching some show through my xbox 360 as they studder in action scenes and was looking for an alternative.

  • I have one of these multimedia players
    http://www.astone.com.au/index.php?productID=24

It has a very usefull feauture, it can resume play files.
The only thing I don't like about it is the remote control unit.

WD Live looks like a well built unit.
Do you guys have any problems with the remote control unit?
Does WD live have resume playback feauture?

    • The WD Live does have resume playback feature.

  • Thanks Sam.
Is the remote control unit as good as good quality TV/DVD player remotes?

My Astone player stutters when playing files larger than 10GB.
Does WD Live play large(over 10GB) 1080 files without stutter?

    • Yes it works fine, I also use a USB keyboard to type long things into youtube search etc.

The WD Live will play 1080p files over 10GB, but there is a certain limit, but nothing official on the Internet will reach that point.

  • i want this so bad, particularly with the aftermarket firmware

  • I get the impression from experience and from people here that with very few exceptions anyone who offers price matching is also keen to make you do so much work to get the match that you'll decide it isn't worth the bother.

    • it's also better to reward the original business by shopping there.

  • Chadstone jbhi price matched without problems, just shows them this post. Deal done today.

    Thankx for posting

  • New to this so hoping someone can help with the following.

Can this connect to an external harddrive and play the files from the hard drive?

Can it actually access your desktop and display your desktop on the screen so that if you want to use google, you can open a browser and search?

And with Youtube, does that mean you can essentially see anything on youtube via the client it comes with?

    • Yes, No and Yes (except for when the uploader has disabled viewing of their video on TVs)

    • There's a Youtube app which allows access.

      • Thanks. Can you view photos within iPhotos on the mac

Got Harvey Norman Melbourne QV to price match. They weren't happy though; apparantly I was the 8th person today!

  • Went into the Macquarie Centre JBHiFi and asked for their best price. Told them about this deal and showed the guy this post. Ended up picking it up for $105. Said he couldn’t match $99 as it was interstate but agreed to add on $6 as a "shipping" charge.

Will post a receipt later on tonight.

Can’t wait to get home now :)

  • Went to HN Springvale - they knew all about the "OZBARGAIN Deal" - said Chadstone had made a mistake by selling it for $99. Best he could do was $139. Rang Hn Chadstone - best he could do was $129.

    • What the? Sounds like they got "Oz bargined" and retracted the offer? Ah I dunno, it all sounds a bit dodgy and sense not making…lol

I assure you that "March Madness" photo was taken from the HN Springvale store last Friday.

      • Strange, since the HN QV guy said Springvale was doing it to clear stock. Odd since the product is only a few months old! Maybe they cleared as much as they needed to?

Big fan of the player though - massive improvement on the WD TV Live.

  • Hi OZBs

I went to HN Caringbah NSW & asked for a price match (even showing the pic from op). After wasting 3-5 mins talking to his boss & checking his computer, the guy gave me $125 no less as it is their cost price he said (duh HN dejavu).

Walked out right away then went to JB Hifi next door.

Asked the girl if they can match for "$98", she just asked which store (mentioned HN Vic). She took me straight to counter & pay $98! Maybe because they are about to close the shop… bwaahaha ^_^

    But I dont need this thing (yet). I got the other 2 WDTVs older generations. +_+;

    • Probably because she doesn't work for commission and the stores are owned by "the company" so staff don't care if the store loses money on a particular item…and neither does head office, they just want you to shop at their store for the things they sell.

You win some, you lose some that's how the big boys play the price match game ; D

  • I doubt they are losing money selling it at this price, sure they have a bigger profit margin….

I remember back when i was working at a bike store during high school, items sold had a markup of atleast 50percent. Some items sold cost the store 10dollars sold for 90. Reason i would rather shop online…..

    • A single store can lose money on an item because they have an inflated buy price from head office.
