    I had a chat with them today and was given the run around too….won't bore you with the details, but suffice to say I wasted a lot of time and ended up voucherless. Surprise surprise.

    Just spent over half hour on chat with no resolution. First they tried to tell me there was no record of activation of the offer on my account. So I provided a screenshot of the confirmation email. Then they tried to tell me I hadn't spent $90 in a single transaction during the offer period. I said the offer was $90 total spend, not $90 in a single transaction. Now they're looking into it further and are going to email me once they have an answer.

    Seems like they really don't want to give out these $10 gift cards!

    • How frustrating for you. They are just trying to find a way to get away with it. I know from personal experience that eBay support is terrible to deal with.

      • Well my experience were good when chatting they always polite and start with thank you being member for 10 years.
        Always approved my requests ie credits or waiving seller fee. Sold 3x mobile phone each over $1200 and paying like $3 fees

          With Amazon whenever they run these similar deals and people don't get their $ one chat support and you will get it in the form of promo credit.

          Another reason to use prime over eBay plus. Also, shipping is way better on Amazon.

    I got the congrats email saying to keep an eye out for gift card which will arrive from 17 Dec. It's now 2 weeks later from that said date and I'm still waiting for my $10 to be emailed to me…

        I was thinking of reporting this scam from eBay to Consumer Affairs.
        At the same time, I realise they are a toothless tiger.

        I am sure if you somehow owed eBay even $10, there would be debt collectors on your doorsteps.

          I was one of those who took up the EBay Plus first month free offer, and cancelled early. I was just wondering if that might be why they chose not to send me the $10? Did anyone with an ongoing EBay Plus membership also get cheated on this?

            @BigBirdy: Me. Mine expires nov 22. I didn’t get the congrats email but i activated the offer and spent the $90. Ebay claim that because they didn’t send the congrats email I’m not eligible, even though I fulfilled my end of the terms. I’d love to complain to consumer affairs, it’s pretty dodgy.

        • I think I'll give them a bit longer, just in case it's a covid/christmas/whatever screwup. For all I know, they may have been struck hard by covid leaving a skeleton WFH staff unable to resolve issues. Then maybe an Ozbargain (forum) or social media posting that EBay isn't honoring a reward for a promotion, followed by another chat or two with EBay to complain, then move on. For $10 I wouldn't bother going to ACCC, but I won't ever forget EBay cheated me, so my shopping will drift elsewhere.

          For reference, this is what EBay chat sent me on 22nd Dec. I haven't received any further update.

            @BigBirdy: Yeah I agree, especially since it seems like some people were receiving their gcs before the holiday season so ebay may have just closed up shop hence no gift cards being sent out. Guess we'll find out in a few days time…

    I called ebay last week and the person I spoke to confirmed that I should receive it but there was some issue with sending it out.

    For my own reference, the email sent out to confirm qualification contains:

    Subject: Congrats [name]! You've qualified for your $10 reward

    Body: Congrats [name]!
    You've successfully activated our gift card offer & spent $90 to unlock your $10 Gift Card. Keep an eye on your inbox, your Gift Card will arrive from 17 December.

    • Yes, same same … same congrats, same contacted EBay, same still no gift card 3 weeks later. Not confident it will come

      I'll ask again in a few days. If they say the same thing again I'll raise a complaint with ACCC regarding false advertising.

    Very clever use of the word "from".

    Notwithstanding that, this is unbridled incompetence or fraudulent misrepresentation. We all entered into a contract of sale under the promise that we would be given the $10 voucher. In many cases, the offer of the $10 voucher was the reason we made the purchase.

    Even though it's a measly $10, there is a matter of principle at play here.

      The main issue here is eBay not keeping their promise. We should NOT have to chase this up. It should be an automated process.

      eBay went to the trouble of drawing up terms and conditions for this promotion, which is legally binding upon both parties.

  • I did submit a complaint with eBay, but I was on an eBay Plus trial when I signed up and completed this offer. My trial has expired now, and I haven't received the gift card.

    Got an email with GC this morning (I had contacted them multiple times before to chase it up). I am no longer a plus member (free month trial expired just before Christmas, and this experience does not make me want to re-join).

      Same situation as me, I got card today, no longer plus member, and complained via chat. Disappointed they didn't boost the reward given the huge delay, but glad the saga is over.

        Ditto, it was a piss-weak response. A genuine gesture would have been "here's your $10 and here's another $10 for stuffing you around".

  • I emailed them before about not having received the $10 gift card but no one responded. So I reached out to Ebay via chat today. Was told:
    "Thank you for staying connected. I appreciate your patience on this. I am escalating this issue to our technical team and we will get back to you via email , meanwhile I request for your patience."

    So guess I'll have to wait for their technical team's reply via email….

    DId people get a voucher or a gift card? I had complained to chat a few days back, and got an email today with a $10 "voucher" as a resolution, but not sure if this is in addition to the gift card or replacement for? Pretty poor form if it's a replacement, one month late and not even what was originally offered since there's a bunch of T&Cs attached.

      Mine's a bit different - have raised a complaint with ACCC. 30 day expiry, only one use - this is getting annoying.

      Yep:
      - over a month late and had to fight multiple times just to get that
      - valid for less than a month instead of 3 years
      - prevents use with a promotion code unlike the promised gift card
      - balance wiped if under $10 spent on single transaction instead of valid across multiple transactions
      - no refund if seller cancels order or there's a problem instead of full refund with gift card
      - can't earn cashback with voucher but can with gift card.

      The lack of refund if seller cancels is a deal breaker for me given the number of orders lately where eBay sellers cancelled including item not in stock, don't want to ship, item no longer available, "covid" excuses, seller is moving house and doesn't have time to ship, etc. I'll be insisting on a gift card.

          No joy yet. They reckon they are still working on providing a gift card but having technical difficulties - still.

          It doesn't seem technically plausible when they have had major reruns of issuing the gift cards multiple times and should have captured all remaining users at each of those runs. All users should have been rewarded on the initial run like the promo emails and confirmation emails were. I can't believe this is just a technical issue - if that was the case they could have manually issued gift cards to anyone via customer service instead of issuing vouchers. It seems more likely they are trying to stall financial impact or trying to cheat users out of the promised reward by providing a lesser reward or no reward if they don't chase it up forever.

    UPDATE: I requested a call back via the app. The lady was very nice and apologetic (probably too apologetic).
    Anyway, they are claiming that they are having technical issues with this promotion, and are investigating the issue "as a priority".

    "I am going to escalate this for you, sir". At this point I could not get off the phone fast enough as I have heard this line way too many times.

    Now you know what to say to your boss when they are on your back about something. "I am escalating this one for you."

    Got a $10 voucher (not GC) in my email today that expires in a month as an apology. They say they are "still working on to send AU $10 gift card to all eligible members" although considering it's ebay who knows… Still better than nothing I guess…

    Received this sh1tty response today, eff me they are useless…

    This is a follow-up email regarding the promotional offer Spend $90 get $10

    We regret to inform you that the issue is still being investigated and it is taking longer than anticipated to resolve the issue. However, I can assure you that our technical team is rigorously working to fix the issue as soon as possible and we are expecting that issue shall be resolved soon.

    As of now, there is no fixed timeline that when the issue will be resolved however, we will get back to you once the issue is completely resolved.
