  • Fairy Platinum PLUS would be better than these?

    • Fairy Platinum Plus Dishwasher, 42 Tablets is $18.50 per pack, no s&s option though.

The platinum work fine for our dishwasher.

    • The only difference is the pretty colour liquids on top of the tablet. I'm my experience (maybe 500 fairy tablets across the range) there is no difference in performance. I've even tried once removing the gel pads before adding the tablet to the machine, again, identical wash outcome! Marketing spin.

    • Straight up using powder works well if you're using the machine correctly.

not matched by the choice study which shows that tablets give better results than powder

also the standard aldi tablet 14c per wash is actually cheaper than powder forms of Finish(24c), Ecostore (15c), Earth choice (18c), Morning Fresh 20c per wash, and overall gives better results than powders. Home brands are cheaper but do not give a better wash

The logix platinum tablet is a bit more expensive but gives a better wash result
        if you believe the claims
        - testers have over 30 years of dishwashing experience ( I am assuming that with that much experience between the testers, they would have figured out how to use the machine correctly)
        - used four identical dishwashers
        - using pre stained plates with identical amount of stains
        - each tablet/ detergent is tested four times
        - results determined by a spectrophotometer

then the results are a lot less subjective than a random youtuber (no disrespect to him, but he is comparing American products and not what is available in Australia)

Previously noted that Aldi Logix Platinum rated best by Choice (78%) - https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/laundry-household/house… - I've found them to be excellent. 40 tablets for $7.69. Thanks to the OZBargainer who posted this before!

Fairy Platinum All In One Dishwasher Capsules were 4th (75%)

    • What about Finish Ultimate?

    • My local Aldi has the 100 pack of platinum for $17. It was meant to be a special a week or two ago, but stocks have arrived late

They are around 2c cheaper per tablet than the regular platinum ones, so save $2 per box of 100 tablets.

2 boxes will last me six months, and another special will be out before that

has anyone does a cost analysis on how much it cost more with electricity to use a dishwasher than to wash the manually by hand?

    • Yes

    • +8

ITs not just the cost either but the time wasted washing dishes.

I use to always wash by hand and was tedious job.

I just now stack up the dish washer and wash every 2-3 days.

Use my time more effectively to earn money with online work than worrying about saving electricity and water and spending hours washing dishes.

      • +1

Indeed, I'm as thrifty as they come, but washing dishes is simply one area I'm willing to pay "whatever it costs" to avoid.

Notwithstanding that, dishes washed in a dishwasher are much cleaner than hand-washed dishes.

      • +2

To me it's about using that time with my family/kids than spending it washing dishes, or using that time doing something else that I enjoy or that is pending.

      • Yeh fair

        • Not only that as mentioned by Tirshool, better off spending time not washing dishes to be with family or other things in life more meaningful.

Even with vaccuuming i use a robot vacuum and Air filter daily to reduce the amount of time I have to Vacuum often around the home.

I use to manually Vacuum every week but because the robot vacuum and air filter has reduced the amount of dust at home I do it once very 2 weeks.

I find if you use your time more effectively you will do more.

If you apply this to everything you do in life you will get more out of it.

It's like going to the gym I see many people hang around for 2 + hours.
But if you plan your rests and what you want to do you can get a good work out in 30-45mins.

Sorry for the long ass lecture but I find it silly people worried over saving a few cents/dollars when they can use that effort into something more meaningful or earn more money if thats what they are focusing on.

My dishwasher uses exactly 1KW/h of electricity on the economy cycle, in other words, 30cents. Add a 20 cent tablet and that's 50 cents per wash. A bargain IMHO.

Handwashing would probably cost 2 cents!

      • +2

The water usage bill for hand washing racks up over time though and definitely not 2cents per wash, at least for the amount of dishes we do

        • Indeed, many people leave the tap running when rinsing. A dishwasher by comparison uses just 12 litres in total for a 3 cycle wash (pre, wash, rinse).

    • Same as others
      Use case
      Consider the following items
(In the order of importance, although it may be different need for each individual)
      1. Dishwasher
(manual: if user does not have a dishwasher vs user need a dishwasher appliance before user can use it. Most of homes supplied with one)
      2. Number of crockery item
No point of putting into dishwasher if user have limited number of crockery item. User need some spares plates/bowls/etc to use, while user loads into dishwasher until it is full
or when user wait for the dishwasher to complete its cycle.
      3. Time
Dishwasher saves time to clean one by one.
      4. Soap (manual use morning fresh vs dishwasher use tablet)
Morning fresh 350ml $2.15. User can use a squirter (maybe 5ml?)
      5. Water (depend on cleaning technique and load)
Dishwasher also may require extra water example to rinse before loads into dishwasher.
      6. Electricity (manual: no elec needed vs dishwasher: need electricity around 1kw-2kw per hour. User can schedule it for Off-peak time though, to save cost)

  • fair enough, but what about for a single person?

    • Hopefully the fairy will change your luck!

  • Just FYI 104 tablet boxes were $35.99 at Costco last week. Might still be a thing but idk.
