Why do people need these? Can you not just turn the light on in the room?

Do this many people really just sit at their computers in the dark?

    • I have seen this question asked before and I wondered the same.

      • +2

My room light is not ideal because my big head covered it. I am using a desk lamp because of this. And this would probably helpful as well and looks nicer compared to my desk lamp

I dont even get it with the RGB strips and stuff - you cant see them in the day - so why are you sitting in the dark like some kind of hermit.

    • I like having a warm and dimmable light for using the PC at night and keeping the room darker than the headlamp.
On saying that, I am using a desk lamp instead of these monitor ones, as I find it weird having a light on my face OR shining at the monitor. I have simply put the desk lamp behind the monitor and it works perfectly (at least for me).

You don’t understand why people use any sort of lamp then? It provides a different type of lighting for different situations.
      - Some room lights are too bright/harsh/cool for evening activities. You can control the brightness and temperature, you can have a darker cozy room but have enough light where you need it.
      - Room lights can be above/behind you, this directly lights your desk and surrounds.

    • Colour accuracy but most use a BenQ if you are doing over time as a graphic artist/colour grader for video. Your image will be affect by light bouncing off a desk lamp.

      • Colour accuracy

Don't professionals use hoods to avoid light hitting the screen rather than shining a light on it though?

        • Varies of what is professional? Cinema grade and large print format probably. But a lot of photographers and YouTube don't. Most want the best colours but do it as a hobby so don't really fork out.

    • +1

If your room light is behind you and want to do anything in front of the screen (but not on the computer), it can actually be a difficult to see details. Little lamps like these are super helpful in these situations.

      • +1

Agreed but putting it at the top makes no sense to me.

Some monitors such as the Acer X34 have a built in strip underneath which makes sense because it lights the desk without directly hitting the screen.

    • With a monitor light, the area right in front of you (ie where the keyboard is) will be brighter compared to using a room light or desk lamp. If that matters to you then that is why people buy these, if it doesnt, you can move right along.

    • Personally I do a lot of note taking on my tablet in front of my computer and this light is a godsend, makes it much more easier to use the iPad for extended periods. Definitely not a replacement for a well lit room but it provides perfect lighting for anything you are doing on your desk.

the competition for sharing deals on this lamp is really fierce at OB

  • Anyone mounted it on the bed headboard? Any good?

    • +1

Nope. It has a magnet connect, easy to lose when it's touched.

  • Just to note, it fits on slim monitor only. I have dell 34 ultra sharp which can’t go with this light..
