Seems like a good price for an RTX 3070 laptop with 11th gen i7. Can't seem to find the TGP rating of the GPU though.

I feel like I comment this too often, but wait for a Legion 5 Pro deal.

    • There's one now for $2079

  • Max TGP is only 100w which is on the lower side.

    Model: AN515-57

Legion Pro 5 with 3060 130W is ~$2,079 from lenovo eBay with this deal and has a much much better screen

    Display: 16.0" WQXGA (2560x1600) IPS 500nits Anti-glare, 165Hz, 100% sRGB, Dolby Vision, HDR 400, Free-Sync, G-Sync, DC dimmer

    • yes I would say that Legion 5 pro 16 is the best deal ATM.

people with education access can also get it for a good price from Lenovo Education, but delivery is said to be 8 weeks.

Thanks for the comments all, very useful feedback.

If we ignore the screen (e.g. for those that will be hooking up to an external monitor), would it be fair to say that in the laptop world a 3060 130W would perform better than a 3070 100W?

        • If it is going to be permanently hooked up to a monitor, a desktop would be better option.

Yesm 130w 3060 will outperforme the 100w 3070 in most tests; but not all, the 3070 does still have more vRam which will help it out in some scenarios despite it's lack of power.

If you look at benchmarks, of a 3060 130w compared to a 3070 11w, the 3060 will have better clock/mHz rates, which usually translate to better in game performance.

As for the previous response in regard to a desktop being better, well of course, a full powered GPU is always going to be better, but some of us don't have that option for a full rig. I myself need the laptop even though it acts as a desktop replacement for 99% of it's life, i have no choice sadly.

There's a discussion on reddit comparing the two, but as always, best to do your own research

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is also mentioned in there

          • @CodeXD: Thanks for the info guys, sounds like the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with 3060 is the better buy here.

i probably would just go with acer nitro 5 3060 95w version. i paid $1575 at HN. just upgrade ram yourself. the jump up in 3070 is not worth the premium i feel.

    If u wanted a 3070 at least get >120w.

I own this laptop (the $1300 one from a few months ago) and can agree that the screen is shit. My partner has the Legion 5 Pro and for the same price (right now) you are much better off getting that instead.

  • Trash screen, probably trash Acer quality

  • damn missed out made a purchase of a puter yesterday same price but the 3060. we use a tv HDMI so the screen would not have been an issue!

  • You'd think thunderbolt would be standard in laptops by now. Does anyone know, does DP over USBC work well in laptops. Heard stories it's hit and miss compared to a dedicated port like HDMI.
