  • Is this the old model?

    • Looks like it. The newer one has a single button in the middle.
      These work just fine though.

  • good price!

  • +4

Great price…I don't really need more but at that price it's worth picking a couple up.

@Stigasaurus yes it is the old model. Here's an article about the differences:
    https://www.techhive.com/article/3627330/philips-hue-dimmer-…

There are some changes that I like with the new model but…$14….

  • +3

Good price, I have one and it's so good to be able to press a physical button instead of always having to use voice or my phone.

  • Good price. Thank you.

  • +2

Excellent price. Grabbed a couple - thanks, OP. As an aside I've been pretty impressed with the Ikea switch (https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/tradfri-remote-control-00443125…), but this is even cheaper….

    • Does that ikea stuff work with Hue?

      • +2

        2 words, Home Assistant…

        • I tried to connect my ikea to hue hub but failed so many times.

          • @yfxsmike: Yeah, I wouldn't even try. You would either need one of the Ikea hubs and then maybe could use something like IFTTT or Home Assistant to make them work together or if you just want one hub then use something that is designed to integrate different zigbee products such as Conbee (which can also work with something like Home Assistant).

            • @PlasticSpaceman: Yeah, I do use Home Assistant with Hue system, I just happened to have two Ikea switches and a bulb and I was trying to implement it without needing to buy an ikea hub or another Zigbee dongle.

              • @yfxsmike: I hear ya. I have a Hue hub in a box somewhere - I went with the dongle so I could be 'cloud free'. Some drawbacks such as a hassle updating firmware on the hue devices if I ever need/want to, but on the positive side it also means I can mix and match various zigbee devices from Xiaomi, Ikea, Philips, etc.

  • noob question - does this work only with philips hue or with anything in google home?

    • +2

It is of course intended to work with Hue, but you can potentially use the buttons to trigger other things. Personally I use Home Assistant with a Conbee/Phoscon usb stick to talk to my zigbee kit such as Hue, but that is another story.

      • Are you using ZHA or Deconz?

        • +1

The Deconz integration, and then I generally use the Phoscon gui to make changes if/as required. Has been pretty reliable for me other than perhaps a handful of Xiaomi devices that come and go - but I suspect that's just because of distance.

    • +1

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure if I asked uncle google the right thing, but it seems it can't control other products.

Would be good if I could use this to on/off my wifi switch, which a lamp is connected to.

      • I missed out this time, but would have bought one or two if I'd seen this post soon enough.
as mentioned earlier in this, using deconz, ZHA or zigbee2mqtt and something like HomeAssistant to tie it together can very much use this to control other lights apart from just Hue.

i'm using one that way (with zigbee2mqtt). Gives added capability to use double and long press to make it able to do 12 different things (3things for each for the 4 buttons)
for example, a short press on the top button toggles the kitchen light (where the remote is), but a long press does the same for the light closest to the front door (quite some distance away)

AFAIK, it won't work with Google Home and non-Philips Hue lights (if that's what you are asking). But I remember reading a Reddit thread eons ago that said it works with Homekit (although you still need the Philips hub).

      Google is your friend.

  • great price

  • +2

Great price. Got one last sale though, and haven't really used it as I thought I would. Automation really handles most of the use cases.

  • +1

Thank's, that cheap, did some research and they are just price matching thegoodguys

  • Yeah awesome deal, had room on my bridge for 4 more but only need 2 more at the moment. Thanks OP.

  • Do you need an electrician to install this?

    • +3

I don't think so. It looks like this is basically just a battery powered remote for the Philips Hue smart bulbs that comes with a wall mount.

    • +4

      No, there are no wires.

    • +3

Nope, but you do need a Philips hue bridge

      • +1

or some other zigbee hub. could be a $5 addition to the raspberry pi that other posts are about

    • +1

Nope. The wall plate sticks to the wall, and the switch itself uses magnets to attach to the wall plate (so you can remove the switch itself eg to turn the lights on/off whilst sitting on the couch). What you do need is a Hue bridge, or some other zigbee gateway it can be wirelessly connected to so that it in turn can control smart devices like lights.

  • Thanks OP! Got one.

  • +3

    OOS for me.

  • Bugger. Missed it. Can't add to cart.

  • Missed by seconds :(

  • +2

Sold out by the looks of things … great deal otherwise.

  • +1

    NOOOOOOOOOO won't let me buy.

For the record these are being discounted becuase the new version is out.

although afaik the new version doesn't do anything different, happy to be corrected.

    • +1

      it does, see this comment

      • +2

fair enough, it does some situational stuff the previous one didn't (as standard - I think could probably still be programmed to do the same thing?)

let me edit my statement to:

the new version doesn't do anything better that I care about, apart from nicer build quality - however IMO that 'hue' button is just branding disguised as 'functionality', and that's a big negative for me.

Also functionally I much prefer separate on and off switches. Just makes more sense, especially if your lights don't respond immediately.

Overall, to me, the new version is a backward step.

darnit now I'm even more upset I missed out

  • Was after a second one, but missed out

  • These are much more reliable than the Ikea tradfri ones. A steal at this price.

  • +1

Can still be purchased for $14. See All buying options. Just bought one

  • Back in stock. Just got 2

  • +2

FYI: Hue app only lets you program the top button, but others, e.g. "Hue Essentials" can let you program all buttons.
    - assign scenes to each button, or use them to control different lamps.

So you may only need one of these for each room.

  • Got one, thank you!

  • Bought one, still in stock, select "other sellers"

  • Damn, that went quick!

Edit: yes, I tried the ‘see all buying options’ thing :)

  • +1

Thanks for the heads up, grabbed 3 from my local Bunnings with 10% off

    • How did you manage that when it is no longer showing that price at Amazon? Curious, to see if I can do the same. :)

      • +1

I rang them before I went in and my local Bunnings is in my suburb

    • The dimmer+1 bulb bundles are only $2.5 ish at Bunnings if you are lucky enough to find stock. I have came across a few over the past few months but stock was very patchy.

      • you have any link for that, can't see that price anywhere

        • I/N 4320762, $1.68 at the moment if you happen to find anything.

    • Managed to get x2 from Bunnings with 10% off. Had to shop around for the price match however cheering!

  • +2

RIP… Missed by seconds again lol

  • +1

    damn

  • Cracker deal. Sorry I missed this one.

  • I too missed this but Good Guys still have them for Tamworth pickup, which is 305km away from Sydney.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/philips-hue-dimmer-switch-hue…

  • Managed to price beat at local Bunnings. Came to $12.60 each. Bargain, grabbed two!

    • local bunnings refused price match claiming it is clearance from TGG
